Must be a summer thing... Prometeus started a thread on this challenge last year. Might be a fun read for some of you.

Of course I only bring it up because I took Franco to the top of the podium in June of '57...

Cheers for the good read; I haven't been around for a while.

But how do those super early landings get done? I keep being amazed by the info on this site.

I tried the Spanish for the first time, and I have had a whole lot of luck, so I am going for pre '55. Its February '45 and I have conquered Turkey and some of France. Next stop England!

yaaaaaaahhh!!!!!!!!!1 this thread shall never die. New record for spain:
June, 1953!!!!!!

I attacked turkey first, and nailed them. Then I could trade with airlifts. Then the allies cancelled alliance with the french, who had made a good effort to drive germany out. I, of course, just gobbled them up from the other end. Then I attacked germany, and quickly got it under control. It was all easy from there. Bergen conquered june 1953 to win.

Welcome back, FD!
WoW!
1953 with the Spaniards! Even Sten Sture would say that is early.
If you now manage it with the French, there would be only your name in the HoF for ww2 with smaller civs.

(AFAIK I am the only one to have won as French up to now)
(but, if you feel like it, DrFell, Xin Yu, DrSpike and myself are now having a try at ww1 as French: see my thread 'conflicts...')

One more question - "the Mini Hall of Fame" dates. Were those for all cities or just objectives

Just objectives
(and 2/3 of the total number of cities when there are no objectives given by the scenario. We agreed upon that rule, arii and I, when playing 'Discover' (CiC). IIRC he finished one year before me .)

The one linked that I did a few years back was iirc 'all cities' in v2.42. I think the other (faster) Spanish quick conquer was all cities as well.

The record with Spaniards is held by Jaguar Warrior (previous names Fire Dragon and Silver Dragon). He conquered the last objective city in 1953 . I don't remember which month.

I just checked:
June 1953!
Difficult to beat, I suppose.
But, as Dave V told us 'all records are to be beaten' (and his superb record in the Rome scenario: 43 turns with the Romans, was in fact beaten a few weeks later)

New record with the Neutrals Full PM-box? Change here!

cliff has just managed to conquer all objective cities in june 1956 with the Neutrals (previous record held by Jaguar Warrior: october 1958).
cliff's strategy is very close to the one used by JW, only many more nukes in the endgame (details at CFC strategy forum)

Here is the new Tiny Hall of Fame:

Smaller civs:
French: dec 1951 (La Fayette)
Neutrals: june 1956 (cliff)
Spaniards: aug 1951 (La Fayette)
Turks: dec 1961 (Jaguar Warrior)

Big Three:
Allies: aug 1944 (Caesar the Great)
Axis: dec 1943 (La Fayette)
Russians: jun 1944 (La Fayette)

i have a hard time winning as turks in 2.42

i've actually been trying various strategies, seeing if i can beat the record

so far my best effort was going all out against the russians, cause otherwise the axis always attack me (usually before i can conquer spain)

I have had a contact with Jaguar Warrior to tell him that his other records had been beaten, but that he still held the record playing as Turks.
He replied that he had had a 'golden game' playing that one, and was convinced that his record wouldn't be easy to beat .
(He also told me that he was 12 years old when he played that game ).
