Attached is a sample of what I have in mind for a revision layout when all replacement images are acquired. The reasoning is simple if our primary goal is redoing them for information purposes rather than image taste then we should include the epoch as well.
Ideas or questions?

Java, the new Hoover Dam and Pyramids images both rock. I vote we use them!
Regarding the image size, as long as the dimensions are the same we can use just about any size larger than 320x320. For example if the images size it 1024 x 1024, it is useable.
In addition, if the dimensions are rectangle as long as the area we want to use is square and it is large enough it is also sufficient.

images.google.com is a good site. Another really good site whith high quality pictures (some by professionals) can be found at www.webshots.com. Their search engine is for their site only, but they have the dramatic along with the artsy.

what colour will civ3 support?
original photo is 320*320,256colour(8-bit),H.dpi=320,Vertical.dpi=320
will 24-bit(RGB) be supported?
