With 90% of us very ideology-minded, we would have SMAC-like factions from the first minute, and each would found a mini-colony of its own.

And then they would start preparing for war.

I disagree. I think even the most staunch conservative like DinoDoc would agree that the best thing to begin with would be to get organized into a commune. Sure, eventually when things are more established, you get into different issues. But I wouldn't say the splintering would occur from the start.

Hell, you'd start off as a democratic commune, but at that first meeting, you'd have a leader (President) and some sort of Democratic governance (legislature), but the 'true' democratic commune would end there as the Republic sets up shop and the rule of law rather than the rule of mob is set up.
