Ah yes. We'd have just about enough time to finish a game of the board-game Civ. Not including setup. |
Hry
I have finished 40 some games of Civ
(and won most of them)
with exerpeinced players (and like 5-6) games only take 6 hours or so

Well, since the island will be the comon property of all, there's nothing to stop of from coming over to say, "Hi, how ya doing" we're planning on having big feast, you all are invtied . . . . Hmm, that's a mighty big catapult you've got there. Well, remember, big feast, and we've got all the girls. Hope to see you there."
Back at camp "Those nutter-loner types are building a catapult, what are they gonna need a catapult for?"
"Comrades, clearly this is an attempt by the capitalist roaders to destroy our glorious, beloved socialist democracy and steal our women. Will we allow this? No! We must strike now, before their catapult is finished. Who's with me!?!"
Back in lunacy-land "The Russians are coming, the Russians are coming!"

You are correct. The remark was made by Dr. Johnson, the maker of the first English dictionary, who led a remarkably quoted life, thanks to his biographer Boswell. Here is the incident, as told by Boswell:
quote:
After we came out of the church, we stood talking for some time together of Bishop Berkeley's ingenious sophistry to prove the nonexistence of matter, and that every thing in the universe is merely ideal. I observed, that though we are satisfied his doctrine is not true, it is impossible to refute it. I never shall forget the alacrity with which Johnson answered, striking his foot with mighty force against a large stone, till he rebounded from it -- "I refute it thus." |
