Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Caveat: these are just movies I've seen. I acknowledge and accept that certain movies I haven't seen blow any and all of these out of the water.

In no particular order:

Monty Python's Life of Brian
American Beauty
L.A. Confidential
Raiders of the Lost Ark
The Empire Strikes Back
The Silence of the Lambs
Hamlet (Kenneth Branaugh version)
Braveheart
The Sixth Sense
The Usual Suspects

(Those first five sprang immediately to mind... if you asked me again tomorrow, I'd probably name a different second five... in fact, I just changed it now.)

A lot of good movies have been mentioned already. I'll just add these two:

Memento
Princess Mononoke
The Godfather

I noticed also that somewhat understandably the lists so far are pretty modern... then again, so was mine, so I decided to add The Godfather which I'm frankly surprised to see it not already mentioned. There are probably some other good old movies I'm missing as well.

there are no restraints on the movies you can nominate although the ones with the most nominations will be put on the ballot....
so like..my ghostbusters 2 nomination....no one else is gonna vote for that ...so i bet it won't make the cut.
i figure that we may have to have some wild card voting too to see which of the nominations with ties on the borderline make it in.

Does no one else love the classics? I threw on one recent film for good measure, but in general I think the last two decades of moviemaking have been truly lame compared with the past. None of these are likely to make the final cut, but I can't resist. Alphabetically:

Annie Hall
Brazil
Bringing Up Baby
Casablanca
Chinatown
Citizen Kane
8-1/2
GoodFellas
Nashville
O Brother Where Art Thou
