So Who is the best at CTP??? Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

Lung claims to be the best at PBEM, as does Faded, as does TheBirdman.... But who is the best at CTP?? We may all excel at certain areas of CTP... I don't think anyone can outproduce me... I don't think anyone handles Stealth Units as well as Swissy, I don't think anyone is as good with Science, or Ancient Units as Berxpert, I don't think anyone is as good at Micromanagement as Blackice... But who is the best overall.... I want to know... How we find out god knows, but I would suggest that a combination of games is gonna be the only way.... The one thing that has to be done to isolate the best is strip diplomacy from any challenge.... that is make games one V one.... To have a Standard Issue symetrical map, regular or larger in Size.... and put all the pretenders to the crown into the pot..... Not a Tournament, but everyone plays everyone else... No one can tell me that when it is one V one that there is a difference between Internet play and PBEM.... IF turn lengths are as long as you need... SO I suggest anyone that is big enough enters a Special Competition to see who is really the man.. ALL that is needed it an hour per week minimum to play against the other pretenders... If it takes 6 months or a year to work out so be it... I will Put up USD 500 for the winner (as long as competition takes more than 2 months as I am broke at the moment ).... I suggest someone creates a Standardised map, and we play to a predefined set of rules...No unit exclusions ...No wonder exclusions, the only two rules being No cheating, and only absolute victory wins the game..

A lot of you are telling the world how good you are..... Lets see who is the Worlds Best .... I suggest the Following Players (in no particular order)

Blackice
BerXpert
Swissy
Lung
Faded Glory
Thebirdman
PaulNo1
Filix
Dragon
Gavrushka

Got spare money?

I prefer ONE game with 8 players, where all dirty tricks (diplomacy, not cheating) are allowed..... but ok.

I'm also in for some 1 vs. 1 games......

The reason it has to be one V one is to make sure nothing is influencing any civilisation other than the one in command of it- Any more than two and the results prove nothing!

Solver will you be able to give this some publicity... See if U can get the Powers that be to Donate a Trophy or a designed Teeshirt or something?

And Faded is only invited to guarantee everyone at least one win...

The map will be the hardest part. I would say at least huge. The games will take days. I think this could be interesting You should go ahead and add Yoda,Doom, and Kansas to that list I will tell them about your idea. First I want to get that map ready you need some help with ideas just let me know.

I think Huge is perfect size...... It will take many months to conclude all games- but there is no need for any time constraints - IF there is a ruin free pre-made map available then great - A huge Symmetrical Map is a massive task - Thanks for the names of the other players, it would be great to see them all play too - You follow that every player will have to play every other player one V one, the reason being is that in Tournaments, you may meet a player in round one who has a playing style that would knock you out, but that does not mean that you would lose to others.

That's exactly what I dislike - the thing that it will take many months . If only they all could meet online and play Internet, however, in the PBEM style, the game would be done in weeks - a couple of sessions, and here it is.

Otherwise don't even hope to see it somewhat clear before Spring 2003, and that's not to my liking.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Actually, I think it would be Internet play - but will still take several months - maybe 4 or 5 - with 13 players, there would be at least 12 games each player, each game probably taking 2 weeks to complete... Maybe more! Dragon suggests a Huge map, as it allows each player to play his own strategy- Perhaps a turn limit of 140 could be placed on each game? BUT for the benefit of the PBEM players, there can be no time limit applied to each turn, that would be unfair as PBEM strategy does involve more time for a turn anyway- So NO ONE could argue that playing Internet Play will in any way shape or form make the game any different to if it was PBEM play... When I asked why some players play better at PBEM some time ago, most agreed it was the time to think... So that should be factored in...

In other words exactly as you say Solver - PBEM style online

Rules will obviously be no rush buy switching with a turn by turn save zipped and sent to a moderator after each session - Each Turn will be saved Before hosting player plays turn. Longship line of movement scouting and 700PW basic/advanced farms I think should be permissable... I think the scoring should be straight forward number of wins and losses, in the event of a tie there should be a playoff, any cheating should lead to immediate expulsion from all further play.

Gav you must have misunderstood me when I told you about the double improvement trick. Whenever you build 2 improvements of the same type on top of each other in the same turn it makes the big improvement appear the next turn and only cost the most exspensive one.Ex: Say you have 700 PW. you put down the smallest farm costing 200 pw(500 pw points left-enough for advanced farm),then you put an advanced farm on top it will it will only take 300 of the 500 pw points you had and the outcome will be an advanced farm next turn. GOT IT?

I believe that, as the big CtP MP honcho I could also have some sort of a decision here .

Of course, nothing called Cheat will be allowed, and this does include bug exploits, like the rush-buy exploit, multiple improvement one (didn't know bout it before).

Gav, you sure you want a standard everyone vs everyone system? Maybe we ought to try something with play offs and finals? But then, it will limit player numbers... so maybe not!

Put an end to popups!

Solver I really want to know who is the best in the world... a Tournament will never do that... In English Football I support a team called Middlesbrough - they regular kick Man Utd Backside - but never finish above 9th or 10th in the premier league.... The problem being is that certain play styles work very well against some players but terribly against others... so if we only play a few of the players, you only know you are better than those particular players..... Who is the best has been bugging me for a long time, and I really think this is the only way to find out.

I would agree that it is essential for you to steer this whole competition, but a Tournament simply would not answer the question satisfactorily.

Good points Gav. And I'm not a damn American, so I know what football is .

Ugh... I guess then it is waaay too soon to think about any prizes that Apolyton admins would give the winner.

Another concern is, can Internet games be kept PBEM-ish enough so that the PBEMers wouldn't pale in comparison to Internet gamers.

Americans.... Soccer.... they couldn't even beat the Republic of Ireland!

I think it must be kept in the spirit of PBEM or it is unfair... By that I mean there should be no time limit for a turn... It will frustrate the Internet Players, but they must understand that PBEMers play very differently.... Whereas Internet Players can set a build queue and let it tick away, a PBEM player is used to manage their whole nation city by city turn by turn.... They of course should be still allowed to do that....and BTW I think I would put my money on Paulno1 or Dragon to lift the top prize....

Good point Gav. Can we really pre-qualify somehow? What about only letting people with intial rating of 21 here (that is, those who beat Deity). Because it's obvious that those who didn't beat deity don't classify to be the best.

Would be cool to have a comitee for deciding, but everyone's in, can anyone be in the comitee, except me, then ?
