"Reaganomics" screwed the American workingman. I am a right-wing American Conservative who strongly dislikes Ronald Reagan.

Suffering from ads?

How? The rich got richer and the poor got richer during Reagan's administration.

The streamlining of bureaucracy opened the way for a technological boom in the 90s.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

The American workingman should stop *****ing about how they can't find a job, and realize that they can only keep their jobs if they work harder for less, like people in other countries. A job is not an entitlement.

Uninformed S.O.B.!! Total Bullshit! If you are saying that my dad and his co-workers are lazy, then you can go **** yourself you arrogant *****. The reason that 3rd world countries can undersell American industry is because they don't come anywhere close to meeting the enviromental and labor standards of American industry. What do you think, should American workers become slaves? Should we get rid of labor unions and environmental laws? NO! Work harder for less? Work where? Our industry is leaving this country more quickly than Mexican illegal immigrants are crossing the Rio Grande. Reagan and the rest of his Republican cronies, corrupt businessmen who put profit before country make crooked deals with third world dictators to illegally maximize profits. Who cares about the working man? Stop *****ing! You can always make a job panhandling in the streets. That, or work an industrial job for $5.15 an hour and no benefits. **** the Environment! **** the Workers! **** the Country! Is that what you want, Felch X?

?

Take a look at the numbers. Per capita income went up... the rich increased their share of the economy yes, but the lowest classes lost numbers to the middle classes and in turn the middle classes lost their numbers to the upper classes.

Further more, per capita income for lower and upper classes both increased.

We need more Presidents like Ronnie.

It's called Free Market Capitalism, get used to it.

This ignorant argument was defeated when Al Gore beat Ross Perot to a pulp in a debate over globalization.

Yes, the US workingman has suffered soooo much because of globalization . Compare the 1970s to 2002... freer trade has made things better for Americans.

sorry, no comparative advantage = get your ass out of the steel industry. I'm from PA, and even I say we've pumped enough wasted money into bailing out US steel. It's a lost cause, other nations can do it cheaper, lets do something else with our labor eh?

Hey, I'm agreeing with orange in a Ronnie thread . Oh wait, it is about free markets .

Exactly... if you aren't efficient in the industry, then you deserve to be destroyed. Unless you are against capitalism?

We should focus on the industries where we have the comparative advantage (ie, computer industry is a good example).

This isn't a comparative advantage argument. There is much more to it than that. The reason that other countries can do things cheaper is because they don't have to worry about environmental or labor laws. But, it does seem like a lost cause. I guess the working class can become waiters and cashiers working for minimum wage without unionization. The working class is screwed.

You are against capitalism then. Capitalism is an international economic theory. In the beginning, it was postulated that trade was the engine of economic growth, and that it is. Capitalism cannot work well in autarky.

Look at per capita incomes... look at the computer age. Working in factories is a much more efficient job now. Productivity of the American worker is the highest in the world, and THAT rather than wages determines where jobs are located.

You are spewing old rhetoric that died out with Perot, and thankfully so.

I'm more in favor of Capitalism in the form somewhat like the "Asian Tigers", omething like patriotic Capitalism. Promote competition within the nation. I'm not just talking about steel, I'm talking about textiles and other industries as well. I don't believe in a service based economy.
