Russia does not hold global influence nor can it send troops to as many parts of the world.

Democracy will grow in acceptance, but due to Russian's long history with strong central governmental control, it will evolve along Scandinavian lines, not along U.S. lines.

The kleptocracy with plagued Russia after the change over will receed as it become clearer that honest business dealings give more stability and long term profits than thievery. With this growing economic predictablity, Russian's wealth will increase.

Powerwise vis-a-vis the U.K., Russian will have a stronger army, a weaker navy and will project itself less around the world. So the two will average out.

Exactly, Russia is in decay, it's military is outdated, it's economy is in the toilet and it is horribly corrupt. Things are getting better, but it ain't like they could get much worse...

In my estimation, yes. The UK's influence is due largely to any residual respect that y'all might have left over from empire. Also, the UK seems to be pragmatic and sensible, which helps.

In order for the UK to be a great power, it would have to project its power worldwide. This is not the case with Russia. Everybody has to deal with Russia, even though at the present she is weak (even the US does). Given Russia's assets, I think it's reasonable to assume that this weakness is temporary.

I am afraid that as long as Russia's population will decline , and the social instability is not solved , it's power will still decline. There is progress, since Putin has risen to power. I still think that the Soviet Union was better , of course.

Russia's population wont decline as much as people are predicting. They will think of somthing...like importing dutch whores or banning abortion.



I think in 10 years it will look good. Putin has done a great job, the flat tax he's put in has increased government revenue by 50%. More people are willing to pay taxes, so long as it wasnt so complicated.

Russian economy is growing steady, and American Oil comanys are serouisly considering making large investments in Russian drilling. I think there future is bright, the whole cold war thing will be put behind us.

As for the SU being the best fighter....damn shame dogfighting is obselete.

I'm very pessimistic on this issue.

I still have a few relatives there, and according to them the situation really sucks. Lots of drugs, early pregnancies, alcoholism(more than ever, and they always had lots of it), poverty, crime etc. And all this happens on major scale with huge chunks of the population, not a few percents.
