JERUSALEM (AP) - In a major policy change, Israel will seize and reoccupy Palestinian lands until "acts of terror" against its civilians end, the government said early Wednesday, responding to a suicide bombing that killed 19 bus passengers and wounded 55 others.

Shortly after the announcement, Israeli tanks and troops invaded the West Bank city of Nablus, witnesses said. Israeli tanks earlier rolled into Jenin and its refugee camp. Israel says many attacks have been launched from the two areas. There were no immediate reports of casualties in either action.

Sharon: Idiot Extraodinaire, maybe, but what else would you have him do? Withdraw from the territories? Gee, -that- worked well last time, didn't it.
Sharon is in a fix: either he does nothing, which is absolutely terrible (as they will continue bombing Israelis regardless), or he tries to take out some of the terrorists. Taking out the terrorists is great, but it also has side effects: other Palestinians now glorify those people, and children growing up wanting to become one, etc. It's a double edged blade. Additionally, if Sharon tries doing anything considered too much towards peace, he will lose a lot of poularity (for good reason-Arafat has proven quite clearly that he can't be trusted), and the intifada most likely will continue.
Arafat is in a self made mess. He's condemning terror on the outside, and helping/funding it on the inside. If he suddenly plays nice due to American/Israeli pressure and arrests all the terrorists, he looks bad, the terrorist political parties get more support, in short he (personally and his political career) may be absolutely stuffed. However, there is a chance that it might work, and peace, or a halfwya resemblance of it, may occur. If he continues doing what he's doing, his people will live in even worse conditions, but he might grow more popular (unsure about this one), but so will the terrorist parties. Additionally, more Israeli retaliations means even more costs financially for Arafat personally, which is really what he cares about the most, and nation wide it will mean the Palestinian economy will go through the pipes (it's all ready gone down the toilet).

I like how you guys rip on Eli. He's living through this madness every day. His friends and family are at risk from murdering terrorists and you insult him, good job...

Sharon is doing the right thing. If I were in command, I'd demolish those refugee camps. Then if the Arab countries want a war, I'd give them a war. I'd win it, and then be done with this terrorism crap.
