	If you were soldier in a war, which nationals would you like to fight alonside you? Support Apolyton, buy Alpha Centauri

Which ones would you like to fight alongside you best?

I am *not* asking which are best soldiers, but I am interested on peoples opinions, maybe stereotypical maybe not.

A complementary thread would perhaps be who you would not like to fight alongside you.

Mods, I have ZERO racist intentions here, I am just curious what opinions and stereotypes are present, because I think no soldier is 'better' then those of another nation and that when fighting for a just cause (defence of homeland) all should be fiered.

That said, I vote Germans because in my 'picture' they do not run away when outnumbered or in desperate situations, they are reliable and brave. Second would be Finns, because I like what I know of Winter War and third would be ... hmm Israelis ?

On the side who I would not like to fight along are Italians (may switch side in the middle), Russians (indeciphrable) and Japanese (waaaay too fanatical)

Hmmm... since it would be Finland versus some other nation, and that other nation would most likely be Russia, which would in the end kick our asses (believe it or not ), then it would be really heartwarming to see the Swedes go down with us!

Not giving up when outnumbered is good? Even in war, you should remember you're human, and so are your opponents. Surrendering is always a fair option, for anyone. Unless you face a barbaric enemy who'd eat your babies, such as as the Serbs in Bosnia, or my ancestors, damn racists. So the Dutch in Srebrenica gave up and were wrong about it. The brave youngsters that resisted against Nazis weren't, at least not in Eastern Europe. As for France... well, decadent idealists.

Surely the answers to this poll should be based on pure logic, and therefore should be votes for the numerically/technologically superior army in order for one to be more likely to win? Which, currently, is America?

Although, to be honest, I wouldn't trust the Americans not to bomb me if I were fighting alongside them. Not maliciously, you understand, just by pure & simple accident.

But Americans can't vote for America, per his rules.

I voted for Germans. My grandfather always talked about how awed he was by the German infantry's tenacity and fearlessness in combat we he was up against them in the Battle of the Bulge. They didn't give an inch of ground without putting up an incredible fight for it, even when the war was certainly lost.

Of course, who knows if the same holds true today...

I went with the Brits. The combination of technology, training, and combat experience sold it for me. Not to mention that they speak the same language; that's a big plus.

No Australians?

Germans probably got this on lock just because man for man, they should've won both world wars. The militaristic tradition of Prussia made the Germans probably the best soldiers in the world.

The Japanese, breed from centuries of militaristic tradition, would also make excellent soldiers but not particularily lasting ones. Unlike the Germans who would use their brains if outnumbered and try to fight another day (but take out as many enemies before leaving), Japanese soldiers have always been more likely to Banzai and get mowed down.

The Israelis have a much more recent but much more utilized militarism so they would be excellent soldiers as well. Muslims (turks and afghans) could potentially become excellent soldiers but would be a bit too much like the Japanese.

Actually it was the other way around considering that that was when the Greek revolution took place.

Didn't Serbs do 1/3 of todays Greece at a point in time? Like 1300's or so...
