He surely need it after all these years in the bottom of the world cups

Now they style themselves world football power

In 2006 when they will not be guesting the world cup they will face their true abilities

BTW, how much you moan we all will know how you got into the semi-finals

I´d rather see a semi final between germany and spain. the way korea has reached the semi-finals makes me wonder if I really should watch a game where the winner has been fixed before the game.

just a german statment.

Korea celebrates Yin spams...

Why are the referees drawn from insignificant footballing nations...Trinidad? Ecuador? Do they really have the relevant experience to be able to handle top-flight games.

For the Spaniards out there...it is better to lose and be able to blame the referee than win by a bad decision and feel cheap...well, I would have thought so as had England won after the ref send that Brazilian off that would have been cheap. England lost because they were ashamed of being 11 VS 10

listen, we suffered a lot of injustice against spain. in 82 the ref whistled a penalty even worse than a brazilian one against turkey. our goalie stopped it, the ref repeated it. and so on...
so no reason to like spain
however, the way korea got into the semis is shameful. it outrightly stole the games against italy and spain. for some reason, people keep repeating that italy and spain should have easily beaten korea. that is really not the point. they can beat it 1-0 or 6-0 or lose, the point is that the playing field should be levelled. korea has fans support. fine. it also has 3 goals disallowed and one red card given to its opponents in the last two games. i simply do not get it.
i've watched many world cups, this is about the most shameless host propping i have ever seen. instead of screaming and shouting and giving hiddink citizenship, koreans should think how their team will be welcomed on the next wc in germany.

For the reasonable folks out there, here's my 'real' stance. Lame excuse makers can keep staring at my photos posted here.

The game started with both teams playing like complete crap. It was some of the worst soccer in the entire Cup -- Spain and Korea alike. Spain then really picked things up and had several excellent chances to win the game by going up a goal. Korea also then caught fire and started pounding at Spain with good chances of their own. There was excellent defense all around.

Where was this vastly superior Spain?

As for the 'bad' calls -- these things happen. Really great teams (as Spain supposedly is) know how to recover. They come back harder. They put the Golden Goal in at overtime. They win the shoot-out.

Spain did none of those. Would I argue against the call that said the ball was over the line? Yes. But to make these absurd accusations of a rigged World Cup when, in fact, the Spanish team --IF it were so superior-- could and SHOULD have made up for a bad call ...well, it's highly entertaining!

Yay Korea! Always wonderful to see upsets of this magnitude.

Hey Giancarlo, we went just as far as Spain did. We now know that the USA, while not quite yet up to the caliber of teams such as Korea, is the equal of Spain and better then Italy which it progressed further then.

For the umpteenth time...why does every team Korea faces, have to be 'vastly superior' in order to beat it?

I guess history is referred in contradiction to your posts to help you understand that only one win doesn't mean much after overall. I guess that's why Brazil is a legend while Korea, well...

Again, It seems that you can only win by cancelling your opponent's goal(s). I guess for you a good team must score many times and in all games. Well, we are not on the 50s or 60s anymore. Most teams play defence so you shouldn't expect much goals constantly. Now nobody really claimed that Korea suck, instead they were considered as a hard team from the beginning (Japan as well). The difference between the two teams isn't that great, and in a game each can win. But take a look at the human potentiality of Korea, Spain and Italy. The last two have some of the best players in the world.

Anyway, congratulations for your advance and I hope you best luck in your upcomming game with Germany

Just keep it clean

Korea doesn't suck. Korea is a good soccer team, I don't think anybody is seriously questioning that.

Italy and Spain weren't vastly superior to Korea, only slightly superior. Korea was a fair match for both of them, and they were very close in playing level for most of the game. The game could have gone either way, in a fair match.

However, in this case, Spain made one or two legit goals before the shootouts, Korea did ZERO goals in all that time.

Spain or Italy don't need to be "vastly superior" in order to deserve to win. You deserve to win if you're even minimally superior, period.

Korea WON the penalty kicks fairly, that's a fact.
However, Korea made it to the penalty kicks UNFAIRLY thanks to the referee. You DON'T deserve to win that way.

I don't think there's any conspiracy, just a strange series of pathetic referee decisions in many games...and coincidentially, Korea has been present in about two of those games, and those decisions were in their favor.

With a fair referee, it would have ended 1-0 or 2-0 in favor of Spain. Nobody's boasting that Korea's crap and Spain is golden, keep that in mind.

Simply put, Spain was slightly better than Korea. Not enough for an easy victory, but enough for a DESERVED and FAIR victory with a different referee present.

You can spamm all you want Yin, as it seems to be quite a hobby of yours, and it reflects your low level of maturity. At least the other people who support Korea's triumph have better arguments than YOU do.

PS: One more thing though, for those that say things like USA is better than Italy and equal to Spain....Soccer doesn't work logically...If A is better than B, and B better than C, C can certainly be better than A, etc.

Play Italy and play Spain, in a fair game, and then you'll know if you're better or not. That's not measured just by "how far we made it into the WC compared to them".

Yin26, FYI not even one Spanish Apolytoner (and believe me, we are quite a bunch) has posted a single whining line in this and the other threads. Most of us know that our display today was pathetic (nothing new, btw). Spain did not deserve to celebrate a victory today, that's for sure. But given your attitude, it seems neither did you.

PS. In case you are wondering, Giancarlo is as Spanish as you are Korean

The USA sucks. They will never be equal. They just got through by playing teams that were performing poorly.

If you really want to know how good the US is, give them a game against Spain or Italy and watch them get their butts kicked.
