Because they emit light from heated gas at the fringe (event horizon?). But I'll leave that to the physics guys to describe in appropriate gibberish.

Nope. I donīt think heated gas has anything to do with it. Not even light can escape the clutches of gravity.

I may well be confusing things there - when you say not dark, do you mean light or also the roentgen and other stuff ?

William the Conqueror's body burst like a popped balloon! The pus and putrefaction drenched the King's burial garb. The stench filled the chapel. The mourners raced for the doors with their hands covering their noses. (I wasn't even there and I can imagine the smell!) Needless to say, they buried him very quickly! His body was allowed to rot in peace until 1562 when the Huguenots dug him up and threw his bones all over the courtyard.

Taylor was president for a couple of years.

Though I do remember hearing about one guy who was speaker of the house, who became president for one day, because the old president left a day early, and there was a day before the next president came in.

It could be the wrong guy but I think it was Zachory Tailor when he was speaker of the house, and the pres was "on his day off"(didnt work on Sunday, religious) and the vice pres was out of the country.

Well part from an interim president, there was one who died a few days after inauguration. I always associate "Garfield" with that story, but that may be a brain error....

No, that was William Henry Harrison. Didn't wear a hat to his inauguration. Gave a very long speech in the cold weather. Died of pneumonia I think in about 31 days afterwards.

Garfield, I think lasted a whole 6-8 months before being shot.

The basic idea is that black holes can be described as a linear combination of energy eigenstates. Which leads us to believe that there's an entropy, and therefore a temperature associated with it.

Maybe I was unclear (I am a layman after all...) Iīm after a certain quantum mechanical process(?). Name that process

Edit: Itīs also that process wich eventually leads to the evaporation of the black hole.

Which King ? Charles the Evil (who already ruled in 1346 I think) was allied with the Black Prince and Peter the Cruel of Castile. He switched sides a couple times (he was from the Capetingian family after all) but the one you may mean who died at Crecy was John of Bohemia....

I have no idea what you're talking about. A name associated with the entire idea or for the definition of entropy or something else entirely?

The Navarre kingdom, though founded indeed by a Basque (Iņigo Arista), was strongly influenced since the beginning both by Castile, Aragón and France, and was ruled since the 13th century by French kings.

The first one was Teobald of Champagne, whose reign began in 1234, and the French dinasties (the Foix and others) continued ruling Navarre until 1512, when she was conquered by Fernando, the Catholic King.

"...and was ruled since the 13th century by French kings."

Again, that doesn't say much. England was ruled by french kings, the Plantagenates. Germany had a Castilian King for a couple years. As long as those were only united through the person of the king it does not exclude independence of the country.

"until 1512, when she was conquered by Fernando, the Catholic King."

Thanx for the info, I'd have thought a tad later...

Well, Castilian dominion over Navarre was contested until circa 1530, but more as a result of French invading attempts than real Basque-Navarre opposition, which was never really strong.

Maxwell's Demon = Boltzmann's Gremlin.
