If riots come, it's because other things.. this is just a nice excuse to start trashing stuff and going all wild. There are lots of people in LA especially that are under poor condition. Lots of bad stuff, people who are pissed anyway cops beating kids or not.. It's just like a feather to the camels back that broke it. Or something like that.

let's throw some more bones to the discussion .
I just read in the paper (not kidding) that jeremy morse had smashed some other black kid two weeks ago with 6 other cops, and he is still in a coma. And then there was a picture of that kid. I'm not ready to 100% believe it, since this is getting crazy media hype. I can't believe they do it here too, it's happening in the US damn it!
If it's true though, i hope jeremy rottens in prison.

The guy who filmed the assault said before that he had been beaten by the police once. That might explain his fear when being taken into custody.

Kamrat, each city and state (all of which have seperate police forces) in the US has it's own requirements, there is no uniform guidlines to follow, so there is no "US Police Academy" as such.

In NY they do a psychological profile, but considering that people like Justin Volpe (The guy who assaulted Louima with a stick) seems to have passed it means it can't be very reliable.

You mean the Los Angeles police academy...yes there is. That doesn't mean bad apples don't ever get in.


When I watch the video, I see two possible bad acts.

First, the cop bounces the kid's face off the car. That's probably wrong, but before I pass judgment, I want to know how the bloody four-inch gash above the cop's ear plays into this. The bouncing incident might be--prob'ly isn't--but might be the last blow of a scuffle the kid started.

Second, the punch to the kid's face. Now there's a claim that the punch was a reaction to the kid grabbing the cop's testicles. A former assistant police chief commented that this is a fabrication because, if you watch the video, at that moment, the cop is off to the side where his family jewels can't be reached. I haven't seen the video since I've heard this observation.

Two other things to watch for. The cop on the left of the screen grabs the punching cop's fist after the blow. This is an indication that at least he thinks excess force was being used. I'm not sure, but I think the cop on the other side is also trying to restrain the punching cop. If true, these two interventions indicate that--if there is a problem--it is with only this one cop and is not a systemic problem.

Well, the so-called bloody gash is interesting. Head wounds bleed like crzy because there's a lot of blood vessels in the head. Even small wounds produce a lot of blood. Now here's what looks like a gash on the cop's head and yet, where's the blood? There isn't any.

Well, if it was up to me, that wouldn't bode well for his future career, anger management being important and all that.
But I'm wondering if anyone can actually point out the gash, or is it something always spotted by someone else.

I knew that the different states had separate police forces, but I didnīt know that it was the same with different cities. Does that mean that a NYC cop doesnīt have any jurisdiction in Albany for instance? And isnīt that a bit complicated?

Not really. Most city cops are kep busy dealing with stuff inside their own jurisdiction.

On the other hand, IIRC, some metro areas have different cop forces different areas. Metro Montreal used to have half a dozen different police forces.

One thing is clear. If you're a black American you sure the hell can't trust the cops.

It's been mentioned in the news and you can see it in stills of the tape. I have seen what appears to be a gash (but an oddly shaped one, kind like a question mark), but like I wrote before, no blood. That's what has me going, . If it is a head wound, it should be bleeding all over the place.
