I'm thinking of sending my boys to an all boys school. They can start in year 4 and go right through to complete secondary education at Marist Brothers College:

http://www.maristoz.edu.au/schools/ACT/pearce.html

The full school web site is here:

http://www.maristc.act.edu.au/

Aidan is keen to go because some of his friends are going.

That will keep their little minds off sex and on their studies! Good idea don't you think?

(btw, does anyone know what happened to my behave yourselves thread last night?)

The fact the school is devoted to Mary sets up the Madonna/whore thing for them at an early age

But best of all, blokey rough sport is compulsory and they have RUGBY

I can just see my boys filling out this backline.

No No No No No!

Do I really have to explain why?

Cutting them off from contact with the opposite sex during the years when they are waking up to the idea of girls must cause enormous problems.

The could grow up fearing girls, resenting girls, misunderstanding girls or not knowing how to talk to girls.

Seperate schools magnify differences in the minds of those involved.

i've been to an all boy school for the last two years of highschool but my grade was the last of the moichans.

the younger grades were mixed. so we met the girls at the breaks it was kind of a conservative school BTW but considered one of the best.(=the reason i was sent there, not because it wasnt mixed) - (that's where Axi went too)

my previous school was mixed and very, very liberal (not in Greece that one). it even had a special cantine where smoking was allowed etc

i never had problems with girls taking my mind off school (to the point that it would influence my GPA or performace - in the classrooms)

from the two i can say i didnt like the first mentioned school but the fact that there were younger girls from the younger grades which we could meet in the breaks in the courtyard at least made it easier.

I go to an all guys school and it is fine.

Having no girls is fine for two main reasons:
1. Girls are more into you. Unless you are some loser, you will know girls from other places. These girls find you automatically more interesting than the guys at their own schools.

2. You can act like a guy. You don't have to watch your language at all. You don't have to comb your hair. You don't have to worry about looking nice. Your clothes don't have to coordinate. No one will make fun of you for this because it is an all guys school and you aren't trying to impress anyone.

BTW some years after the admission of girls in that school the number of its pupils being accepted to Universities droped like a rock (whereas it was one of the 3 highest in Greece).

but that was because of other bullsh!t reforms of course

Do you really need evidence of something so obvious?

It's like asking for evidence of homosexual sex in prison.

Is this a day school or a boarding school, either way it probably doesn't make much difference. Single sex boarding schools usually have an opposite sex counter part, to organize dances with for the older students. Before the days of coed college here in the US that's how they did it. If they stay at home well it doesn't mean crap, you can date girls that don't go to your school, it's just a lot harder in high school to do it that way.

I'm not sure this is true at all. Girls tend to like going out with guys at the same school so they can show off to all of their friends. When they tell their friends they're seeing a boy from another school they tend to roll their eyes.

This is Australia, they don't do any of that even if the girls are around.

Its a day school only a couple of miles from our new house. The boys can catch the bus there. 4 brothers in an all boy school plus Dad whose an old boy of an all male college hell - we'd be taking over, soon be a heavy weight family there, taking no sh*t from anyone.

I wouldn't send em to a catholic boarding school - I don't want them touched up during the night.

None offense taken. I would probably have even more problems if I went to my local public school. I'm working through my problems quite well too. I'm not using my self as evidence for anything though. I'm talking about the people around me.

Or because they don't believe them.

Seriously though, I don't buy the excuse it "keeps their mind off of sex" like Horsie said. Nothing will keep their minds off of sex in high school, save for castration. Going to an all boys school will only restrict access to sex for most of the time, with a heterosexual partner. Like in a prison, I'm sure the rate of homosexual behavior is going to be higher in an all boys school than a co-ed school.

I should hope you don't overprotect your kids, Horse. The real world has women, why shouldn't school?

If i was to take this seriously...
The great empire builders who were the products of the british schooling system you're advocating:

Cecil Rhodes (Moulder of sub-saharan africa) had terrible problems with women to the point of mysogony. IIRC, he never married or had a serious relationship with a woman.

Kitchener has a weird thing for washing young boys

Other examples will be given on demand

I dont want to generalise but thats the sort of attitude that comes from all boys school.

Thinking that there's a "guy" way of acting (burping/farting/being scruffy) and a "girl" way of acting
(not burping/not farting/clean and tidy the whole time/love of kittens and sewing/never swearing)

Found that gem in the religious education guide.

Yes, I strongly approve of feudal religious imagery around the school. Good preparation for communism and/or iconographic capitalist consumer culture whichever wins out in the end. I like this school more and more.
