There is one more ambassador position available which goes to Vox Controlli.

Ambassadors basically serve as representatives to the other teams, holding meetings and discussing foreign policy with the rest of the Great Embassy. One by one they report back to myself (while I'm Foreign Minister, that is). Then I compile all the discussions, charts, or whatever that ambassador sends me, and post it in our thread.

Other than that, I may need a deputy eventually, but that's not until the game gets going a bit.

Ill gladly take it. Hopefully they will get it together by the time we make contact else it might be an empty position. As of now they only have 4 members in their civgroup..

Yes Demogyptica is available as well. A little late...but if you would rather have them than Vox, that's no problem.

Here's a crooked thought: is it allowable to use MarkG as a (potential) source of info for the other teams? I'm thinking there must be some rule somewhere that prevents abusing the moderator priviledges. If not...at least we should consider this a potential threat from the other teams.

Hmmmm... crooked is right. I am sure that there are no rules pertaining to this. I hope (and I am sure (read: trusting)) that he has the integerity to keep out of it unless he is actually moderating/mediating.

Also ... I will be fine with VOX for now. I can easily back up anyone else.

alva, that trick might work in our euro pbem game because of the geography, but we will need to go North to find them. Their our first civ, and because of the threat we need to know their capital position. But, I would certainly shadow their scout, and if possible delay it. I wonder how long it will take them to declare war when we are dancing with 2 warriors in front of him

If ManicStarSeed is not available shortly, I'll volunteer as ambassador for Vox until Meshelic returns. The next few turns will require some shrewd diplomatic decisions, and so we definitely need a representative.

(I promise not to declare war upon them immediately, as many of my other posts appear to indicate I'm itching to do...)

I wonder if we could negotiate some kind of agreement to keep warriors poking around each other's territory to a minimum. If they had our minimap or could otherwise be persuaded that going through our lands is unnecessary to contact other civs, they would have no real need to explore into our territory other than for the purpose of flagrant spying. Conversely, our only purely peaceful interests in their land involve getting through it if necessary to make contact with other civs or satisfy ourselves that there are no other civs on the land mass to contact (the latter of which might also be possible through minimaps, depending on the size and shape of the land). If warriors do need to pass through one or both lands, either to make contact with another civ or to verify the absence of other civs to make contact with, they could be escorted along agreed-on paths that stay away from sensitive areas. If the idea of our warriors traipsing all over their lands is as unappealing to them as the idea of their warriors traipsing all over our lands is to me, they might go for it.

Let's assume they are somewhere NW (that's where we met he warrior.
Let's try to hold to hold them there and explore NE ourself, they shouldn't be able to check/know on that.

Even if we get caught, it's highly unlikely they will act on it.

Damn!

Everytime i miss a day on the board, something exciting happens. First the settler, and now the voxians. I told you i should take vacations more often...

Anyway, to bussiness. As it seem now, we are in somewhat inferior position in future dealings with the Vox. we have no tech to trade with them, and it is most likely that they would act as middleman in tech deals, since they probably contacted another civ by this time. It seems like war is the next major deal going to happen between us, but we must act as if we are not pursuing it: we have to exchange lux info, as we want to plan for future trade (or war, but that's less obvious). We also want to consider the possibility of mutual tech agreements. This kind of prospects would give us causes/excuses for future war, if not accepted by the other team. We still have some advantage against the Voxians- they are probably bordered by two civs, and if they do then they know we know this. This puts more pressure on them, and encourages them to be catious.
One more thing- maybe a wide effort by our ambassador and Meshelic himself, to discover which team already met Vox, is a good idea in this case. As our isolationist position has been compromised, we must seek ways to break the shroud we are in as quickly (and safely) as possible.

Nathan's idea is a good idea, but i think we better discover where are they're sensitive areas quickly, because as much as i see it, early war is the likely outcome of our meeting. Our top priority would be to get to know where is their capital, the second is to prevent them, or at least stall their scouting of our land (blocking their way might also give them the idea that our territory is very near, which might make them uncertain whether to send more scouts), and the third priority is to know where is the third or fourth party.

Of course, we only tell them about the furs, since we don't want them to pinpoint our location if they bump into that incense on our east. The question is: can they tell which lux we have throught the diplomacy screen? if they can, it's irrelvant (besides not telling them about the incense, of course).
