More guerillas than fingers and toes! May I add that those RN subs are excellent as well.

Here is a compilation of my updated modern infantry, hope people will find it helpful.

The Eurocopter Tiger will be the attack helicopter for the French and German armies, while Britain, which currently uses the Westland Lynx, is phasing in a licence-built Apache Longbow. Spain and Poland are buying the Eurocopter as well I think.

Tanelorn drew a Tiger and I have an Apache graphic somewhere (follow the link in my sig).

Hope this one helps!

@fairline, vodkakov, typhoon, or anyone else up to the challenge:
Sarsstock and I need two somewhat unusual infantry units. First, we need a Los Angeles gang-banger (dark skin, gang-style hip-hop clothes, bandanas and all) with an assault rifle. Second, we need a bare-chested Hispanic militiaman resembling Marlon Brando in some scenes of 'Apocalypse Now.' If someone could help with this task, I'd be most grateful (I certainly imagine Sarsstock would as well).

Have the British Apaches entered service yet? I've read that they were meant to enter service this time last year, but have been unable to find anything about the aircraft actually being in service - the Army Air Corps website hardly mentions them!

see this link: http://www.army.mod.uk/equipment/ac/ab_alah.htm
and this one: http://www.army.mod.uk/armyaircorps/apache.htm

I think also, the Navy had some piece about being able to use them earlier in the year. I think they're in service (despite the original in-service date being 2001), but there were some problems...

All the WAH-Mk1 Apaches have been delivered but I think most have been mothballed while the pilots are trained up - IIRC deployment of Lynx's to Iraq has delayed this for up to 3 years before they are all trained and in service.

OK thanks. Given that the Apache is about a zillion times better then the Lynx I imagine that the AAC is under a fair bit of stress at the moment.

Lynxes are ok if you want to transport a section to someplace, but they're not really designed to be an attack helicopter. That's why we need the Apaches, as we have lots of different transport helicopters, but nothing that could make a big dent in someone's armoured force.

I read today in the latest issue of 'Janes Defence Weekly' that the UK 16th Air Assault Brigade is currently holding an exercise which aims at qualifying it's first squadron of 6 Apaches as being fit to deploy to support peacekeeping missions.

Let's hope they are 'peacekeeping' missions for a change....

As for the Lynx versus Apache, clearly there's no comparison when it comes to the attack role, but I think the Lynx will carry on as a utility helicopter as vodkakov says. Strangely, the Lynx is still one of the fastest and most maneouvreable helos in service and can carry a section of infantry. The Puma will still be the Brit's main troop carrier though.
