Make sure it's Kazaa lite! Otherwise you'll be installing spyware.

Thanks again for the tip but I have already downloaded elsewhere a patch updating a Civ2 Classic version to Civ 2 Gold.

Tamerlin - when I thought I was going to have to buy the Mac version again, I checked out eBay. I found several Civ 2 MP (for PC) copies being offered pretty cheaply. You just have to make sure it's the MP version, not the SP version.

It is ridiculous. But that's the price they're paying for staging the WRC later in the year. Anyone playing rugby in Brisbane in the next month or so is off their head.

I heard the stats for this when it was played and assumed there had to have been a mistake of some sort.
They played in conditions where I wouldn't even be able to watch (Not going to the match anyway. Live coverage is a different matter ).

If France do best when expected to lose and the vast majority on this thread (i.e. pretty much everyone but me!) are backing France to win then isn't the natural conclusion that France will lose?

I have found a patch that is updating a classic Civ2 Classic Edition v2.42 to the Civ2 Gold Edition v1.3 giving the game the MP feature. It seems to work adequately but would need to be tested.

I have started a game and the MP options are available... the graphics are terrible.

"To my mind they're probably the best team in the world with an outstanding back row and, of all the teams in rugby, they're still the ones who can pull off the unexpected."

Thats Martin Johnson talking about France.

I think this means that Finbar now has to automatically support England as there is no way he can agree with Jonno?

Probably the best side in the world - and not an SH player in site (with Marsh injured and De Viller sort of indisposed)?

My French is almost non-existent, I know a few words and phrases, but thats about it.

I know how to speak French with a proper accent, but I think it sounds hilarious with a heavy kiwi/aussie accent. I remember making up words with my friends in French class, like when we wanted someone to get out of the way we would say "move-ay-voo".

Kiwi/aussie tourist in France with horrible accent:

"see restaurant nay pass aussie bon queue lee McDonalds"

Waiter:

"On t'a bercé trop près du mur?"

Tourist:

*drops phrase book*

"uuhh...mercy bowecoo"

I'll be supporting Les Bleus because, as I've said before, they're my preferred team after the Wallabies. I like the way they play. Nothing J**** says enters the equation because nothing he says ever enters my ether.

We should give it a burl. Get ICQ and add me. I'm running my cable through a hub so I can't host. Well, I'm told I can, but I'm not sure how. Anyway, we could try with you hosting.

I have mIRC, can it works with ICQ? I don't know at all how these softwares are running. I only use mIRC for the CtP2 Democracy Game chat.

About hosting, I have a 128k ADSL, is it enough? Once again I don't know how to host a game.

I've never used mIRC. ICQ is a stand-alone. You can download it from www.icq.com. 128k ADSL is plenty. A lot of people still host on 56k dialups.

Hosting's easy. Open the game.

Choose the Multi Player option from the first menu.

Choose TCP/IP from the next menu.

Choose Start A New Game from the next menu.

Then you get a couple of menus you'll be familiar with from SP games:

Pick Map Size, Pick Difficulty Level, Pick Number Of Civs, Pick Barbarian Activity, Pick Game Rules.

Then you get a menu to set the Multi Player features. We usually select Open Game, and Humans Can Chat From The Start.

Then you get a menu that sets the time for each player's turn. Select Unlimited.

Then you can insert your Net Name. Put Tamerlin.

Then you can insert your Game Name. Put Tamerlin.

Then you'll get your computer's IP address. You send this to the other player (or players) via ICQ. That's the address they type in to connect with your machine.

Then you get a screen telling you who has connected.

Then, when everyone has connected, you start the game.

I'm assuming the patch you've installed will work normally. There's only one way to find out!

I have already downloaded ICQlite but I don't like the way ICQ is working and I don't like being asked to register in order to use a free product. Is it hiding something? Will I receive plenty of commercials? Will I download a spyware?

True, I am not available this week-end and every friday night until 2 a.m (in France). When could we plan a game (I will check the planning of the Stade Toulousain as I don't want to miss the following game at home against the Sporting Union Agenais)?

Though the graphics are not really important do you use a patch to improve Civ2 graphics?

Why ICQlite? The normal ICQ is better. It's easy to use and it's free. I don't know about the lite version, but you don't get commercials with the normal version and there's no spyware. I don't even recall having to register.

I checked out Ircle, which is the Mac version of mIrc. I remember now that I tried it years ago. It's very complicated compared to ICQ.

No, these are the great old Civ2 graphics, but they are a bit outdated now (though still better than the Test of Time ones).

There are patches/mods aplenty out there to fix graphics should you so wish. Just don't grab any of Koby's. It could be a little disconcerting if finbars caravans happen to look like Borg cubes.
(Albeit giving you the perfect excuse ).

Any idea which patch you used to upgrade (from FW?)?
I tried one some time ago and ended up having to reinstall due to a number of corrupted files.

What a fine idea. Presumably Havak would suffer frequent attacks of the "red mist" and earn yellow cards aplenty.
