Lancer, what you implied was that prison was a deterrent for white people but not for non-whites. I'm sure some black guys also get raped by other black guys. And, maybe, it's not down to the colour of their skin in many cases but how tough they are. So, therefore, it's racist.

MikeH, I see where you're coming from, but let me try a different explaination that gets to the same conclusion and you can judge if it's a racist statement.

THE US judical system is obvioiusly biased against blacks.

I'll bet there are more black prisoners that think that they wouldn't be there if they were white then white prisoners that think they wouldn't be there if they were black.

So to a lot of black prisoners, it's Whiteys fault.

And due to the bias of US judicial system there are more black prisoners then whites. Blacks are the majority and have greater power by being the majority.

Hence minority white prisoners are more at risk of being sodomized.

Lancer seemed to be implying that the reason that there were more black prisoners was because it would be too horrible for white people to go to jail so they were less likely to commit crime. Which implies that if you are black you have no problem going to jail...

If he had said that white prisoners got a harder time in jail because the system was racist I think that would have been fine.

sorry to hear about it though - I'd personally get a gun. I have no problem with owning guns, actually - I just feel that they should be registered and that we should only be allowed to have reasonably strong guns, not AK-47s...

I didn't read his comment that way.
To me it read, prison can be a little more brutal to whites so it might be a bigger deterant.

While I might not agree with that statement, I don't find it racist.

I'd say such generalisations based on skin colour alone were racist.

From what it sounded like he didn't have a clear view of his attacker, which would have made reporting it to the cops problematic.

Prison is more brutal if you are in a group that is a minority in the prison. More often than not non-hispanic whites are a minority.

Mike, the thought of going to prison is a nightmare to me. Not because I'm worried about doing time, or the food or the lack of freedom, though these things would definately suck. The main deterrent for me is getting raped by a black gang. If that makes me a racist in your view, oh well.

I believe alot of white people feel this way. I don't believe the average black guy who is likely to go to prison feels this way. He doesn't fear rape because he is in the majority and likely is already in a gang before he went to prison. If that statement makes me racist in your view, that's life.

I believe I'm not a racist however, but a realist.

You didn't have a problem with my first post where my conclusion was

It logically follows that heightened fear of the increased risk MIGHT act as a deterant. So no, I still don't think it's racist.

But what's self defense? If you try to car-jack me or break into my house and I'm home you're dead meat. It doesnt matter whether you have a gun or not. Nobody is gonna prosecute you for it in the south. Can you say the same in the North East states? I very much doubt it. You have too many bleeding hearts who think that shooting someone who doesnt have a gun is not self defense. We have many of them on this site.

I think mono's referring to the case where four toughs attempted to mug an old man in the subway. When he pulled a gun, they tried to flee. But he shot them all in the back and was prosecuted.

I agree that if you try to stop him, and he doesn't stop, you should be able to shoot him, but you should tell him to freeze, first?

Zkribbler, you may be refering to Bernie Getz (nerdy white guy) who was prosecuted for shooting 2 or 3 of 4 'black youths' who he claimed were planning on mugging him. He had been mugged before and was fearful of riding the subway so he carried an illegal handgun. They admitted they were '****in' with him. Later on it came out that he had shot one or two in the back. He was vilified and prosecuted. He was acquitted by his NY peers in the first trial but tried under some other statute later and convicted in some upstate court. The punks he shot were virtually held up as heros. The fact that they all had convictions for assault prior to this incident and that at least 2 of them were later imprisoned for rape and murder and was conveniently forgotten.
