President Large Mean Bunny-Bun looks over the world situation and sees that is is giga-. It's 1660, and we've managed to get 9.94 MM people squeezed onto a small grassy continent. Just 175gp in the bank, and taxes set to zero, so the government is set to go bankrupt if I so desire...
Studying Railroad, vow to prep for Darwin's. About 1/2-way there, but need cashflow.
Hmm. Check for celebrations, reset to 30-30-40 and press ENTER...
1670 AD -- 7.55 MM ppl, incremental camels being produced, the odd aqueduct is rushed. 3 civs get new techs. Notable that Americans completed Democracy.
Our boats are really slow. Cloning some Einsteins.
1680 AD -- Wandering ship finds Akka (Babs) near Cumae (Roman). Celebrations grinding to a halt (Mean City = 25).
1690 AD -- Sliders mysteriously move to 50/30/20 (for 274gp minus 57 in costs). Babylonians complete Statue of Liberty (Indians abandon). Eins convert to the tax trade pending the completion of...
1700 AD Railroad!! Choice of Economics, Feudalism, Industrialization. Seeing the Romans are building Adam's and won't talk to us, Economics is selected. (Silly Wabbit Wuvs ASmith!!) Americans go demo! Romans again decline give us a chance to wheedle Econ out of them despite gifting them first. Rail network begins.
1710 AD -- Americans learn Steam Engine, start on la Tour Eiffel. We land a gem caravan and they demand an audience. Then they demand 150gp. then confirm we remain at WAR. We say a little prayer for the exposed camel, continue to incrementally acquire more of those cute little beasties.
1720 AD -- Spanish learn Invention. Americans permit camel to deliver Gems to Boston, payoff is 724gp. Start to think I might get both ASmith and Darwin... Sewers installed in Sticky Meanie.
1730 AD -- Germans get RR, we discover Economics, then offered Atomic Theory, Magnetism, and Feudalism. Tough call, as Sun Tzu is still there for the taking. But we want other Wows and our boats are ssoooo slow, we go Magnetism. Pop exceeds 8 MM. We've got some cash over 1500gp) for infrastructure, so sliders move to 10-30-60 to get back into celebration mode.
1740 AD -- Romans build Adam Smith's Trading Company (in distant Cumae...) with NO WARNING! Meanwhile, several lovely white goods are purchased to enable/encourage growth in our cities. Growth noticeable in several cities...
1750 AD -- Romans get Explosives. Bad Leroy Brown takes Darwin's Voyage. Really wanted Adam Smith first!!! Had the camels and cash to get there if I'd only had a warning...
Anyway, we get Magnetism and Industrialization and are now studying the Corporation. Suddenly our slowly meandering fleet is no longer unhappy!!!!
Spice to Cumae nets 207gp. Sewer built in Pool of Grace.
1752 AD -- Spies report that specialist workers are now very different-looking. Transportation vessels are similarly bigger and stronger, too. Meanie population now at 9.14 MM and still growing, with Mean City either size 25 or 26.
I want to exploit growth under democracy, especially with our very limited number of cities (not to mention, shields!!) before going Fundy. I think both Commie (pre-vet Spy!!) and Fundy will be offered among next techs.
There are a couple of Dye camels (soon to be freights!) awaiting a transport, and a few wonder-feeder camels in Mean City.
Considering the gloves are off in a mere 49 more turns, we could either (a) grab Sun Tzu, get to Commie/Fundy and build a huge strike force to unleash at Jihad.
Oh, and here's the zipped-by-an-actual-PC version of the save...

1752: Order of business - finish irrigating our lands to facilitate growth. Keep celebrations going as long as possible to maximize our limited potential for growth. Get Genetic Engineering to build CfC and keep that 'odd' citizen celebrating. And above all, keep trading! A number of our cities have only 1 or 2 trade routes.
Change a bit of production around... rush the Sewer in Leroy so that we can start building Freight there.
I can't find any of our ships at sea... but they'll turn up, I'm sure. Damn gigamaps!
None of our Caravans are en route anywhere - they're all at home. So no trade for a while
1754: Just noticed the Americans have Magellan *heavy sigh* Transports begin to head home. The Romans have some decent sized cities, and they're not too far, let's trade with them
'Murricans learn Railroad, and change governments to Republic.
1756: Corporation... we choose Genetic Engineering to facilitate celebrations down the road. I considered Communism for the UN, but given that we're going Fundy anyway, why bother? Also considered Electricity for fast escorts for our Transports. Feudalism, Refining, and Atomic Theory were the other choices.
No cities are in a position to grow currently, due to happiness issue (lux @60 currently) or lack of food/infrastructure. Accordingly taxes are adjusted to 3.2.5, and science goes to 3 turns/tech, net taxes to 152.
1758: Pretty dull year. Some incremental tweaking done. Transports continue homeward.
Germans and Indians ally against us.
Americans swap Engineering for RR with Romans, and ally against us... What? WHAT? Americans learn Gunpowder from Romans.
1760: Transport incrementally rushed in Beggarsville.
Babylonians learn RR, and form Republic. Americans are almost finished Eiffel.
1762: Genetic Engineering discovered; researching Refining.
Transport sails from Beggarsville w/ 4 Freight.
Romans form Democracy.
Americans build Eiffel
1764: More rushing of various things. We need cash, production, growth, and more Freights!
1766: More of the same...
1768: Refining>Combustion. Bee-lining for Automobile and big growth.
1770: Land's End founded. We land a Freight in Roman lands and they declare war after we decline to give them Industrialization. Dye>Rome 166 g, Spice>Rome 62 g, Gold>Rome 78g, Dye>Antium 152 g.
Romans and Americans learn Industrialization Both change to Monarchy. Americans start Women's Suffrage.
1772: Combustion>Electricity. Tax rates adjusted to 2.2.6 to keep the science coming.
All of our cities except 3 have Sewers now and can grow indefinitely. I added factories in 2 cities, and we have the cash to continue rushbuying. Proto-shipchain is in place towards Rome, but we may want to rethink that if they stay in Monarchy long.

Played 8 turns since we are getting into the modern ages.
We have a real power democracy going.
TURNLOG:
Are we ready for Fundy?
No.
We have 9.87 million people on our small island.
Fiddle with sliders:
Decide to stick with 20/40/40 to celebrate in:
Green meanie, Heavens Gate, Big Bad Bill and Beggarsville
Tech rate increases to 4 turns/tech.
Note, we have Marco Polos:
Requirements for Tactics:
Feudalism-Chivalry-Leadership-Tactics
Requirements for Howitzers:
Electricity
Electronics
Steel
Automobile
Machine Tools
Miniturisation
Mass Production
Computers
Mobile Warfare
Robotics

Americans are researching Warrior Code!
Hmmm
we need 3 more libraries to properly upgrade infrastructure!
Rush 6 freights to build CfC.
Hit enter.
1774:
Celebrations in 4 cities.
Dye to Rome 202 gold, Spice to Rome, 98 gold.
Not very big bonuses.
CfC to be finished in two turns.
1776:
Electricity discovered:
Select Electronics for Hoover Dam
Population now 10.35 million.
Spice to Veii 125 gold.
Rush Sewer in Heaven's Gate, Libraries in LeroyBrown and BigBadBill
Prep cities for celebrations.
1778:
CfC built in Mean city

Population at 10.73 million
All cities set to WLtD!
1780:
Population now at 11.14 million
Readjust to 30/30/40 to beef up cash for Hoovers, improvements.
1782:
Population now at 12.3 million people
Need sewer in Big Bad Bill, Factory in Mean city.
1784:
Discover Electronics, Select Steel
Population at 13.39 million.,
Rush sewer and Freight.
Readjust taxes to 20/40/40 down to 3 turns/tech.
1786:
Population to 14.68 million
Shipchain aligned.
1788:
Population now 15.88 million
Note 60% science nets techs every 2 turns.
To allow Heaven's Gate to grow, Mean City currently has food shortage.
Sticky Meany currently celebrating, though without a food surplus.
Switch square shared with BadLeroyBrown if you want to encourage city growth.
May wish to build universities/superhighways in all cities after Automobile discovered.

1790 -- We discover Steel -- & choose Auto. We also see open geen space on the Isle & decide to fill it with Weenie Meanie. pop = 16M. Toggle some faces, do a little IRB & other tweaks. We lose MPE (The Babs start UN, so gee, I wonder who...)
1792 -- Move a Silk truck & exercise the ship chain
1794 -- More IRB & some move
1796 -- Discover Auto & opt for Commy (The Amerks start the UN, no wait, they switch to Hoover what a sucky deal...) Deliver an Oil (n) = 100 +/-, & Silk (d) = 378 to Rome
1798 -- We love starts in Land's End; we rush the factory in Mean City -- because...
1800 -- Mean city builds the Hoover Dam (Amerks switch back to UN.) Hmmmm we're seriously ahead in Science, and the UN would be nice...toggle the numbers back to 5.4.1
1802 -- not much
1804 -- Weenie Meanie starts a We Love; Discover Commy -- opt for Refridge (over AT, Feud, Fun) Pop = 18M
1806 -- Discover that the great Courthouse surge ven with a few Banks don't add much Luv'n. MMaybe they'll add later.
1808 -- Watch a cute movie as we build the UN -- & the Babs & Amerks abandon.
Note to next player -- Land's End has a slot for Silk (demanded by Rome) open.

Not much benefit from courthouses.
Colosseums on the other hand keep away the discontented people. The reason why the banks do not net us much is because at 40% luxuries, we are near the top of our luxuries barrier. Anything beyond 2 goblets per citizen will not make people happy. |
in democracy, courthouses act like a palace, not CfC, so they add an extra happy person after luxuries are figured in. as a demonstration, here's a city from the game with the courthouse, and then after it was sold.
of course we're only going to be in demo for a little while longer, and i haven't spent enough time in fundy to know if a courthouse is a worthless structure or not for that government.
as for colosseums, they'll allow our cities to celebrate in demo, and produce 4 gold in tithes in fundy, so would be a very good investment
