Since contact with GCA is now imminent, here is a draft letter I am writing. Please add any suggestions or corrections and let me know if I "give away" too much!
---------------
To the Ambassador of Gamecatcher Alliance,
Greetings from Apolyton! We have recently come across your civilization and are intrigued to find out more. Our people believe that it would be in both of our civilization's best interests to be at peace and share technology. We are willing to make an effort towards this. Would you be willing to sign a non-aggression pact with us for the duration of 30 turns? We could renew it after 25 turns or throw it out with no consequences.
We know that your civilization started with the knowledge of alphabet and ceremonial burial. Our own civilization started with alphabet and masonry. We are currently working towards bronze working and will be done shortly. I hope that we can come to an agreement on tech trading! We would like to discuss a tentative proposal, as we have pottery, masonry and soon will have bronze working to offer. Is there anything you would like to offer in exchange for this knowledge? Also, would it be possible to find out what your current research status is and what you may be researching in the future? We would like to research something different from you so that we can trade to each other, speeding up both our collective research! Let me know how you feel about this.
Speaking of alphabet, I am quite glad to learn that you guys have knowledge of the alphabet (and possibly gals? We here at Apolyton are apparently only of a homogenous gender at the moment, which makes procreation rather difficult... and boring). It makes communicating much easier. Have you had contact with the Elucidians, who are apparently just north of one of your cities? They have no knowledge of alphabet, which made it especially hard to communicate with them. Our ambassador to them sent them a friendly letter urging peace between our civilizations. Their reply was a drawing of a stick figure with what appeared to be a spear sticking out of its head! We're not sure what this means though and at the moment, we believe we are on good terms with them; however there seems to be a slight distrust as they feel they are squeezed between you and us. We should work out a plan so that we may educate these primitive people at once, that way we can properly communicate with them!
We look forward to future communication between our two peoples. I think I speak for all of Apolyton when I say that we only want peace and cooperation.
To facilitate communication between our two nations, we would be willing to have a chat online between our leaders to discuss any pertinent information. Do you have an appropriate place where we could chat and be able to maintain a log of all proceedings that occurred? We would even be able to do this at our own site, as we have an IRC server. If you are interested, please let me know and I will fill you in on the connection details and we could go ahead and schedule a time.
If you need to reach me, you can contact me in a few different ways. You can PM me at either Apolyton or at your own website under the name "WhiteBandit" and my private email is whitebandito@yahoo.com so you can reach me that way as well!
Until we meet again! J
WhiteBandit
Apolyton Ambassador to GCA

Edit 1: As per Togas!
Edit 2: Modified according to suggestions by Trip and ET.
Edit 3: Changed the offer of masonry to the offer of pottery to see where that gets us.
Edit 4: Updated based on Togas' science proposals.

All of these are valuable comments. I concur. You have my permission to offer them a 30 turn NA pact.

A couple of things:
1) make sure that your address them by their civ name and not their site name, this will sound more impressive in all of our correspondance with them
2) offer them a 30 turn non-agression pact, renewable after 25 turns. We want to be peaceful and this is a good way to let them be peaceful with us.
3) see if they are willing to chat online with our leadership (and theirs), to help speed up the first contact negotiations. Offer to have it here (like we did with Euclidia) or see if they have an appropriate place that we can meet (and have a proper log for later posting).
4) ask them if they have made contact with anyone else besides Euclidia?
5) Smile when you send it.....

As to other questions:
1) no "Pottery or Masonry" ... just offer Masonry for CB as a means to open negotiations. We want to bring them a fair tech offer right off the bat, and even if they don't need/want it, we want to give a good impression.
2) As we talk with them, we'll ask them about if they've met CDG later. I would prefer for us to listen and them to talk on this topic. I want to get their actual feelings about CDG without the "taint" of our own impressions and experience. After we've gotten their first impression, and established a straightforward relationship, we can begin to tell them about our experiences in a much of a neutral mannor as possible. The last thing we want is to go in with an agenda of attacking CDG, they'll see us as two-faced and bitter.
3) If we do meet them in chat, I want WhiteBandit to speak to them, and any of the rest of us who are in chat should introduce ourselves, small-talk a bit if appropriate, but stay quiet and let WB establish himself as the primary contact and friend to them.

Alright, should I take out this part of the letter then and we will just ask them if they know about the existence of CDG later?

Of course we don't tell them anything about the eastern lands. I am hoping they will be too busy protecting their lands against each other to contest the eastern lands with us. That is why a borderline with CDG is good, we have enough room to expand anyway, and it will better our relationship with them.

I'd really hate for GCA to tell us we'd be trespassing if we wouldn't go inside their border's or even within one square. We have to draw the line somewhere as to where we WILL go and where another teams dictates our moves through unclaimed territory. This part of the land mass could very well balloon down here, and GCA could be making a very unreasonable request. What if they are hiding another Civ or another peninsula. We should make it clear that we will not trespass but are steadfast in our belief to 'scout' unclaimed lands. We say that we hear their request but feel that it is unjust and not within what we feel is in our scope of rights. We say that we are continuing our 'scouting' and while we do not want war; it would be them that would have to declare it.
This is a game with a set of rules; we should use those rules to make our case for continuing exploration. If they attack us will they not seem to be the agressors in such an instance. I think the most that they could reasonably ask for is a one tile space extending beyond their borders, all else, in my opinion, is unreasonable.
If they attack us, oh well, we lose a warrior(maybe, maybe they lose one ). We would make peace soon after because both teams realize that 3 teams trading techs is better than 2.
If they don't attack, we scout, respecting their border's and continuing trade as normal. We might even throw them a bone and tell them that if they allow us to scout South then we will 'have their back' in case CDG gets uppity on them. A sort of 'Secret Alliance' that only gets enforced if CDG was the instigator.
We need to take advantage of the fact that they are so close together, getting this started now is just as good of a time as any other down the road since I'm sure that their realitive closeness is at the forefront of their thoughts. We let them know that we would'nt really be intersted in CDG's land as much as they would. This will get them to lean towards our side much more easily.
