Hey Hey USA, how many journalists did you kill today? Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Man, I can't believe it. I was watching live coverage of the war last night and an ADTV cameraman had a really good shot of two Abrams on a bridge in Baghdad. They must have thought he was a sniper because they aimed machine gun fire at him. Undeterred by the bullets he got up and kept filming. Then one of the tanks blew up the building he was in. Luckily, he survived.

Now news that a whole lot more journalists have been killed or injured today.

Is their some vendetta against the press in Centcom or are the soldiers stupider than their munitions?

The last 20 seconds of this movie clip is from the recieving end of American tank fire, wounding the cameraman. I'm not sure if it's the same incident. (Comments in Swedish)

http://www.aftonbladet.se/vss/real/...fskjuten,00.ram

Edit: After looking at the clip again, I am sure this is the incident we are talking about.

No, lame brain. When a building that journalists are using is deliberately targeted, supposedly because of sniper fire (luckily, the targeted journalists were on hand to report that there wasn't any). When a guy is holding a camera and everyone in the world can see where he's filming from you don't think it is dumb to deliberately target him.

Now call me curmudgeonly, but isn't it customary to identify one's target before aiming tank rounds at it?

This perhaps could be transferred to the, Why is there so much FF? Why do the Americans shoot at everything that moves? thread.

Perhaps, but our friends from Airstrip One aren't shooting them.

We should have a list of the numbskull targets the US has hit recently because they can't be bothered to identify targets. Here's two I can think of.

1. The Chinese embassy in Serbia
2. The Russian Ambassador in Iraq....

My my, tetchy aren't we? Still doesn't explain why they bombed the Al Jazeera building.

They've always shot at everything because they're a bunch of trigger-happy inbred hicks with guns and no discipline. We had a thread on this the other day: your allies are as scared of you as the enemy, and with good reason.

I remember that once the attack started a couple of weeks ago, high ranking Baath party members moved into the same hotel as the journalists in order to be safe from the bombings.

This makes me think twice about dismissing the possibility that they really were receiving fire from the hotel.

The guy was lucky! Look at the camera on the balcony and the hole where the shell hit (if this was the same incident). Those inside the room under his were less lucky though...

How stupid do you have to be to fire at a hotel filled with journalists? I could understand if journalists were killed because they were running around and such, but that tank deliberately targetted a building full of journalists. Several journalists have reported that no fire was comming from the building, and even if it was, is it really that hard to refrain from shooting back at something that could not possibly harm your tank (small arms fire)?

Also, the US bombed two Arab networks headquarters in Baghdad today. The attack on the one that wasn't Al-Jazeera was utterly ridiculous. A villa relatively far from any other building, of whose location the US was supposedly notified.

Maybe they don't want any journalists reporting what's really going on. They like to keep it to their press conferences where they can make things up, unload their propaganda, and spin everything.

Not that I'm saying their actively trying to kill every journalist they see, but it could be intimidation tactics. Except maybe for the arab news networks, which could very well be deliberate.

Baghdad is a combat zone, and Saddam's forces have proved themselves more than willing to hide out in civilian compounds in the past to try and evade our gunfire. Reporters were warned by Centcom; we are certainly not in the wrong here.

What exactly is the problem here?

The Al Jazeera case is the most annoying. It has "we're killing you because we don't like you" written all over it. The journalists did everything to avoid getting hit like in Kabul, but I guess they would have better luck if they tried to jide their whereabouts from the Americans instead.

I never said otherwise. (Why do so many people equate speaking against america with supporting saddam? - propaganda in action, maybe )

Atleast the Iraqi propaganda is so ridiculous that no one with any amount of knowledge could believe it. The americans are a bit better, though, and a great deal of people will believe anything that the officials say.

The only reason an Iraqi has to believe what saddam says is that that's probably all he's told. I hope that americans aren't as sheltered as that.
