Something Arrian and I both missed initially: Once Vox is on Arashi 9, they can move from there to the mountain at Arashi 3. (So your thinking is exactly what mine was until I caught my oversight. )

Well....it'd please me mightily if they didn't. Cos that means they'll either eat the damage from three rounds of catapult fire as they move around the city sticking to the mountains, or they'll step off into the flatlands, where we hold all the cards....

Vel, there's one flaw in your "they must attack because of the cat" logic: with our current plan, we'll only have one cat there, and they won't even know we have it if it misses. (For that matter, if they don't look carefully at the status of their troops, they won't even notice it if it hits.) Of course we might be able to help the situation a little with some appropriate trash talk, but that might make them suspicious if we aren't careful. (If we hit, a taunt about it would be a lot easier to justify.)

Ahhh, then I say we use the public fora to our advantage.....let's talk up the notion of our "massed catapult fire" and see what it gets us....

Once we let the word out that we have them (no need to inform them that it's only one), they'll be checking closely, and it'll make Ashari a VERY unattractive target for them to try and navigate around.

I don't think we should boast about it tho....just an off-hand mention (something like "we'll have our catapults and pikemen waiting") will do the trick.

I think it would be great if:

Velociryx announces his arrival on the main forum in sort of a Cincinattus type post.

They would certainly flip out at that!

If they think we're cocky *******s, why not shove it down their throat?

edit: I know thats a bad idea, we must be humble as we destroy their army.

Do we want to get our northern WC in the fighting or use it for patrol purposes (maybe 8-6)?

You have a flair for the dramatic, good sir! But yes....as I understand it, we're getting gang-banged because of our percieved "attitude" so let us not give them still more ammunition.

It will be enough when we dismantle their toy army and remove them from the continent.

That should send a message.

I would say patrol, vox alluded to having two fronts, of course the second being the Hurricane one, but you never know when they will march a group down the eastern fields.

Nbarclay: IMO, we've seen the bulk of their forces. Not much to patrol just now. I'd say let's use every unit we have available until the looming battle is resolved.

Odds are good that it will be resolved in our favor if the strike happens in Ashari, and in that case, we'll have plenty of units to patrol with till we're ready to give them a little visit of our own....

IMO, their "second front" is that pittance of a force outside of Hurricane.

We have a big wad of forces in our face just north of Ashari, and reports of additional troops coming up from behind.

Given our estimate of worst case 25 Immortals, they don't have anybody else available to throw up a second front.

Good point. I would add that since they only have slow movers, we could move the WC in, hit, and then move back and be well off, asuming the defense goes ok. And if the defense doesn't ok, it doesn't matter so much.

They're really THAT scared? If so, then it goes to show you that they really are touched in the head. I'd take one look at the "So very cold" thread, or DeepO's analysis, Nbarclay's extensive posts, Theseus' vast body of work, the tremendous weight of good, solid strategic thought that has been churned out by all the members on this team and find a lot more to be terrified of than lil' ol' me....

We can't get to Dissidentville that way, though, because they have a road to the only tile WCs can come in on.

As you saw from that Togas thread, they all have serious problems with overestimating us. And you are just the topper.

Now if we could only get Soren to post something.......

Well....we have all the important long-term advantages, and they've gotta know that.

They picked this fight (whether or not of their own free will is another matter), and we'll be the ones to finish it.

Long-term, I say we use our rising technological star to shove LOTS of knights down their throats and show them how we do it downtown....

Regarding Dissidentville - My thinking is that we can paste it with our own slow movers (we'll have a growing body of medieval swordsmen....good job for them), and our WC's (future Knight candidates) can be used to sweep the flatland corridor and threaten their iron colony.

Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

One concern I have is if they attack with all their immortals save the last who pillages the road. Then we couldn't counter with WCs and our MI's would probably all be injured to some degree.

Would they even think about this factor? Who knows, I'm not sure I would if I were attacking.

edit for clarity: I meant the Arashi assault

Our current plan is that when we can afford to, we'll send some pikes up by galley to play havoc with their iron roads. Their colony is useless if they can't get the iron from there to their cities.

If we want to cover the iron, the best thing is to bring the WC down from 6-9 from Arashi. We can probably do without that WC's services elsewhere for a couple turns until our galleys are far enough north to deal with Voxian galleys.

Most likely that'll depend on how the battle goes when they strike.

If they think they can take us, they'll prolly hurl everything they have into the attack (on the thinking that if they take the city, then the counter attacks by our couple of marauding WC's won't change anything). If they don't take the city, then the war is over, regardless of WC counterattacks.

Aeson did extensive testing and saw a relatively high chance of a Vox victory in the battle. ~25% I think. That chance of a Vox victory is too high for my liking. Especially if we can possibly maneuvre them into a battle of annihilation at much better odds for ourselves.
