	Should I become a Republican? Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations

Now that I'm 18, I ought to register to vote soon so I can participate in this great American democracy

so should I join the ranks of the Republican party? when I posted at Newsmax, they called me a liberal intellectual and a satanist and some people here have said that I'd scare a typical Republican... but otherwise, Republican right? thats what I should be?

And what are the other Americans? Are the libertarians registered republicans or did they check Other?

you post complaining about how all people should be republicans, and then quesiton it yourself?

That's your first sign that you don't know what you are, or what you want, and you need to think it through more clearly. Frankly, I think a lot of your views are founded on misconceptions and faith, which is unfortunate for someone as intelligent as yourself. Not that being a Republican makes you wrong (as much as I'd like to think that ), but you're a 'Republican' for all the worng reasons.

it's not like it matters...registering a certain party only allows you to vote in the primaries. So if you want to vote in the primaries, register for whichever party's primaries you'd like to vote in. I registered Democrat for this reason.

anyway, yeah I'm pretty sure I'm going to be a Republican... I was thinking about going Independent or something but nah I want to be able to influence primaries. i was more interested in what other people here are registered as...

Regardless of how you register, I think it's important and benefitial to the system that you do. I only hope that, at some point in the future, your views are refined and educated enough to be a true representation of what you envision the ideal society to be...whether that leads you to vote Republican, Democrat, Green, Libertarian, Socialist, etc. As long as you vote

It's too late for me to register for the primaries in philly in the end of May but that wouldnt really matter... straight forward who is running for mayor and there's two Republicans who are squabbling for city council seats but I dont know anything about either of them anyway so I shouldnt vote in that primary anyway

No, the probem is that at Newsmax you get the extreme right of the extreme right. For 'those' people, anyone who might have any sligthly different viewpoint all of a sudden is a Satanist (are you an aethist? cause that really would send them off).

I am pretty much agnostic. I believe in God and I think that humans are divine but I refuse to use the Bible as the sole basis of morality and living one's life. I don't think God is of any concern in our day to day lives.

I was called a Satanist when I mentioned my belief that humans are divine and that, as a result, we should determine our own moral codes not be slaves to the Bible... I even quoted Psalm 82 (which describes men as being 'as God' and able to judge morality) but they referred to me as the Snake in Genesis

half the people there are standard republicans but the rest are complete nuts...

I feel the same way, and told my roommate in college the same thing, and called me an atheist. I reminded him that I believe in god, so he called me the devil. Made no sense... He was a born again Baptist, after testing the Catholic waters though.
