Swedish singer/song writer Per Gessle from Roxette is a genius. When he became rich, he aquired the poshy hotel in his home town that he singed about in his 70's teen songs. He also bought all art works he could find (if he liked it) and placed all over the hotel. Now the hotel is a REALLY hot place with luxus spa, rock bar (you never know when he will jam there) art exhibition etc...
My wife and I will go there next weekend.

I was, frankly, a little disappointed. Far too few rooms, and not really very frightening. The tower made it look a little silly.

Now that's cool.

Now, the entrance hall needs a fabulous dark wood staircase. The "Boris's Room" here will be the library, not the bedroom. That should be upstairs, with the Roman Bath.

Tee-hee!

When it is -10 degrees out and you are freezinf your ass off or when it's 105 degrees out and you are sweating your ass off in a Wright designed house which has no insulation then you will know why Wrights designs are artsy pieces of crap.

There is the added problem of everyone being able to see into your house when you are changing, when you are ****ing, when you are showering, or just about any other time.

FLW made so terrible designs and he is the stereo type of the arrogant artsy fartsy achetect who doesn't bother to think about how his design is going to benifit real people nor what the needs are of the people who are going to live in the house.

Seriously, Franky wasn't ahead of his time, his marvelous ideas didn't spark mainline change or come to fruition - the man was a HACK:

Title: What in the F*CK is THAT supposed to mean???

Although I must retract a little bit of disdain upon opening of my FLW book... I DO love his (Mayan?) pieces:

Not quite Mayan, but in the same vein:

That is one of the memories that plagues me from high school... in drafting, how our idiot teacher would put on some slide show of why "Falling Water" is God's own vacation home - staring whispily into the displayed slides as I sat there nervously wanting to jump up and f*ck Lisa Mc***** and her tube tops to death. Erections didn't hide well with my wardrobe, either

Now I haven't honestly studied him at all, but stil arrive at the above conclusions. Would a certain professor be able to convince me otherwise - of this silly old man's greatness and legacy?

I don't know about anything else, but I think FLW's Guggenheim building is spectacularly well done. You can hardly pay attention to the artwork because the building is so interesting to look at.

All of his stuff looks dated in a bad way. There is a ton of still older archetecture out there which still looks classy dispit the building being 70, 80, 90, even 100 years old. The New York State building comes to mind and so does the Effil Tower (120 years there).

Guggenheim is indeed elegant, mostly because he withdrew any neo rococo idiocy he usually laces each victim with. Not comparable to new Franky's Guggenheim in Spain, though!

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

I hated falling water too. The idea about the waterfall was interesting but the rest of the house looks like a bad early 70's nightmare.

I'm sorry to say but last time I was in NY I was 12 so I was to young to remember much about the Guggenheim. I'll with hold judgement on that one but being a FLW it has two strikes against it.

Boris, a Roman Bath should never be located above the ground floor, for technical reasons (such as leakage and the weight of the water). An alternative would be a split-level with the Bath and your room raised on a platform above the Bath.

Falling Water is a POS. The thing itself is starting to fall into the water and they've had to prop up those cantilevers with steel beams.

Wright, if nothing else, made a lot of interesting buildings. It's nice to have a couple weirdos put up stuff every now and then.

Arch Prof Z Here,

Hello and thank you for your lovely entry into the competition. I unfortunately must decline your design for the following reasons:

1.) Every hack building even conceived past 1997 employs something similar to THIS!
2.) Cute obsession with pseudo symmetry there. We still in High School?
3.) The correct spelling for number seventeen would be "Panties"
4.) What?

Thank you for your effort, and keep your head tilted to the skies.

Copied out of your rejection letters?

I see you have some issues to workout before finishing school. As a service provider you have to understand that this attitude won't get you many clients, much less returning clientele.

As fun as it is being a sacred cow and all, the dorks all have lots of money or pr, or connections or just plain got lucky with a highly visible project that got them noted.

This ain't my style this is a make-boris-happy-home.
