Talking to Krill again. In short: We can invade in ~10 turns...
quote: Hello,
quote:
I sent Chemistry accepted this turn. Tabemono is the only other team that has it. SS does not. I can get Banking in 7 turns running a small positive gpt, but first of all I need a turn of max tax to get some gold for short rushes and the like. |
And make sure you do not research Banking, as we are already on it (started 600 AD). Did I not write about it?
quote: The earliest I can leave, with my main army that was used against Monkey, is 650 AD.
However, I can leave before that with 9 muskets, 8 cats, 5 horsemen, and 10 Longbow men. The problem is that I will not have the capacity to move all of them. I can move 12 of them next turn 620 AD, 14 in 630 AD, and 16 in 640 AD. However, without either Magnetism or Navigation, I can not move directly west. I will have to move via the normal crossing route. |
With such numbers, we could just as well call it off. I think we need to be able to take many/most of our forces to actually achieve anything...
quote:
Looking at it from this angle, MAST or Tabemono are going to see us coming and will have ample time to block the coast. If they do this, we have no chance of a landing.
So, we need to have navigation for the safe ocean voyage. It is either that or risk everything. |
Ditto. Which means 7 turns until we can upgrade, which means how many? 10 turns until landing? Slow but probably the only realistic (well, that's an overstatement) chance.

Ditto.

And another one:
quote:
Hi,
quote:
quote: And make sure you do not research Banking, as we are already on it (started 600 AD). Did I not write about it? |
No, I went 100% Tax, I really need the cash for upgrades and short rushes |
No cash wasted, then.
quote:
Weel, that is the amount I can carry in galleys. If they are Caravels, multiply the numbers by 1.5, but delay everything a turn. So if we left in 650 AD, I could take closer to 30 units in Caravels. But I can not do any research for a few turns. |
Do you think we can delay some research to get the show on the road? I think we should...
quote:
quote: Ditto. Which means 7 turns until we can upgrade, which means how many? 10 turns until landing? Slow but probably the only realistic (well, that's an overstatement) chance. |
If we did wait for that, though I would be able to take about 80% of my whole army. I mean, c. 30 Longbows, 25 Muskets, 30 cats, 3 settlers. Something that would really hurt. |
And since LL will be just as dead in 5 turns... I think we ought to wait, and punch them real good.

I'm still having some trouble wording a good message to Trip. How does this sound?
quote: Hello Trip, and the rest of Sunshinia!
The allies peoples of CoD and Pythonia are always looking to speed up our respective rates of research, and we are currently presented with a good opertunity to to get a head start over Tabemono and MAST. While their economies are still involved in finishing out their wars against LL, CoD and Python have just finished out a war against the Monkeys, with Python emerging in a Golden Age.
We come, therefore, with a proposition. Python and CoD have long had a technological research alliance. We invite Sunshine to join this alliance, with the hope that our combined research powers may advance our three nations and lead to greater cooperation in the future.
Thanks,

Any news from Sunshine?
I had this conversation with Krill today:
quote:
Krill wrote on 26-08-2005 16:31:

Hi,
Next turn, Banking will be finished. What do you think would be the best choice after that? The GA is 5 turns from ending, so if we want something expensive it should be now...
We have Copernicus' Observatory in Camelot. If nobody interferes (Tabemono come to mind...), Sun Tzu's should follow shortly.
We will have reasonable naval transportation ready in 3 turns. It seems Monty will be able to send about 30-40 units over to invade (still using much of the GA for infrastructure). How are your preparations proceeding? Do you really think we stand a chance to block LL land, and secure the choke point? It is not only the fight itself, it is the geting past any possible naval opposition I am worried about...
Sunshine have apparently "started" building the Great Library. If they manage to build it, there should be all sorts of fun and games on the other continent pretty soon.

Congrats on Coperns. Are you going to try and get Newtons as well?
I have just been stockpiling gold IIRC for the past two turns, for the galley upgrade and rushing the gallys (from 10->20 shields, just to get the numbers.)
I think I will be able to send over mostly Muskets and cats, but I am going to have to take the sea crossing, as I don't have enough movement to travel over at any other point.
Also, I will need astro next turn, to upgrade and then get the ships over there in time. I reckon I will be able to send about 30 units my self, rising to about 40 or so on the return trip.
I think 15 Muskets, 8 cats and 7 LB for mop up should be about right.
You next tech should be either physics or metelurgy, probably the latter, as it is on the way to cavs, and just carry on. I will probably start up research again, timing it so that I finish my next tech for the start of the GA, boosting both of us into the next era pretty damned fast.
I am still building troops in the core, for reinforcements and coastal blocking. How are you on reinforcements?

How is your diplo with SS coming along? Got a trade for chemistry yet?

No, I did not manage. Alas, I am on vacation until Monday, so here goes:
quote:
Greetings, earthling
We think some gold per turn and a strategic resource could be acceptable. Having 10 turns, it remains to be seen what we will need then. But, assuming we would accept gold, how much would you be willing to offer?

By the way, is anyone even reading this? At all?
