well a lot of people complain about not having enough money to pay bills.

I find a lot of people like to dramatize their situation to get more sympathy.

And I do admit many people do have trouble finding money paying thier bills. but that is mainly due to lack of financial discipline. Many people run up their credit card bills without having full meaning how the credit system works. They have to claw and scrape, but they manage to find enough money for food. They just have to cut out on renting videos, and going out to eat at restaurants.

I'm not going to say it's easy for people to find enough money to eat. It can be difficult at times if they run up a lot of debt. many people do refrain from getting goverment help. some people are too proud to use food stamps. But those programs are available to anyone who needs them.

i've said it before but i'm sure i see more benzes, beamers, escalades, etc. everyday on the streets of philly than people in the suburbs do... every young male goes around rocking jordans and other kicks that cost them over a hundred... people got plenty of money here in philly they just waste it on stupid ****...

yep, as I said before about gambling in my city.

people make choices in life. I won't fault them for their choices. some people are very happy owning expensive sneakers or expensive cars. They just have to make sacrifices in other areas of their life.

That's arguable, but I can tell you for sure that there is starvation in southeast Asia, where most of our consumer products come from. So this doesn't really work as an argument for capitalism, because the dirt-poor haven't disappeared, they've just relocated.

You know I just saw some disturbing pictures on the news. Those starving kids in africa always hurt me bad.

Why should we be focussing all of our money on imaginary problems like starvation in america, when we can focus on real problems of starvation in africa and southern and southeastern asia.

It is very difficult not to feel guilty after seeing pictures of starving kids. Sometimes I think the U.S. should give all of its money to africa.

All the money or food won't solve the problems in those countries; only democracy and a free press will.

Detroit has it's fair share of poor and homeless people. But there's also a wealth of alternatives that can provide for them- both private and public. I simply can't believe that "10 million" are starving through no fault or action of their own.

I know someone (in the US) who spends a lot of time organising food drives to get food to families who can't afford to feed their children properly.

IMO Speer is right. Many ppl would rather pay for the wants over the needs, and do so. Then, they demand food, saying they are starving even though they are 100 pounds over weight and only have enough money to put 10 gallons in their Escalade and buy 12 Big Macs for the day. Who do they want to pay for it? The government... Many ppl believe that they should buy what they want and the government should pay for what they need... Freakin' socialist commies..

I also feel that there are many ligit people out there trying to make a decent living, trying hard to put food on their table every night, and honestly need the help. And, it is welfare birthing machines that give those people bad names.

I'll sell you my food stamps for 50%!

I think Diss is correct: using the common definition of starvation, there are no starving people in the US. But starvation and malnutirtion, or undenutrition, are al different things. Undernutirtion is rare in the US, malnutrition is more common, though the fortification of foods has aliviated malnutrition of various different vitamins and such.

As for when people say "millions of starving children". i never think they mean the US, but the world, which is most certainly true.
