I have mentioned this in a thread in the Apolyton/Community forum. Yes I was talking off-topic in an on-topic thread.
But then Sava said the poor should have food in their bellies.
I have to draw the line here.
A recent study concluded that the only malnutrition problem the U.S. has is from anorexic women and in cases of child abuse where the parents intentionally starve their children. They found that the greater problem was kids eating fatty foods like McDonald's as their primary source of food. Too many poor kids are overweight and developing diabetes.
The term "millions of starving kids in america" is just something liberals use to make us feel guilty. liberals are good at making us feel guilty about our hard work leading to a good life.

missing meals and starvation are so not even close to related. why would u twist his words?
if he sez there is no starvation, why don't u come back and say "yes there is." coming back w/ "ppl miss meals." is insanely weak.

You're willing to accept the idea of people missing meals, I'm not. So it's not weak to me. |
I would base my acceptance more on their capability of obtaining adequate nutrition. not on whether or not they didn't eat breakfast. for all I know they bought a 12 pack and decided to skip all the meals.

Maybe you don't realize that many of the people who miss meals are kids, and missing a meals does more than makes you hungry. It makes you perform worse in school. It can affect your growth, and it can affect your health. |
I'd have to know more than that. what are there parents doing? lots of normal kids don't eat breakfast. if kids are being nutritionally neglected then lets get after the parents. not hand the parents more damn money.

Malnutrition is rather a bigger problem than simple eating disorders. Most people eat the wrong kinds of food and don't get sufficient nutrients, especially the poor. This, however, is a food choice problem, but as makers of poor quality food target the poor, blame doesn't lie entirely with the poor. After all, if advertizing and marketing didn't work, they wouldn't spend billions on it, would they? |
I agree they are eating the wrong types of food. See my original post about McDonald's.
But I disagree that the companies target the poor with their products. If anything, they target both the middle and lower class with their products. As both consume them heavily.

The parents? You know nothing about the parents. What do they have to do about it. Do you have some evidence that kids only miss meals because of their parents behavior? |
so kids miss meals because of kids behavior? what are you saying? the parents are incapable of getting their kids to eat?
rice and beans is pretty nutritious, last I checked it was cheap too.
