Oh, all those races with level adjustments are kind of out at first level (though we can probably work something out if the level adjustment is +1). I think there are rules for level 0 characters.
Edit: Current rules for level 0 characters... none. You get a level 1 character that doesn't gain his second level until 3000 exp if you play an Aasimar or Tiefling (or any race with an effective level of +1 (for newbies: races that kick more ass than the standard races)).

Deacon Welkamt Aarston(m)- Dwarven Cleric 1
Str: 12
Dex: 12
Con: 11 (+2)
Int: 13
Wis: 16
Cha: 15 (-2)
Wearing: belt, soft boots, breeches, good loak, gloves, tunic, leather armor, backpack, signet ring, holy ring.
Wielding: Warhammer (in scabbard: dagger)
In the backpack: 1 pr. breeches, 7 good meals, 1wk dry rations, iron pot, 1lb wax, flint and steel, two torches, two lbs cracked corn, one small tent.
Weight: 39lbs (Unencumbered).
Gold: 1gpt, 5 sp, 10 cp.
Languages: Dwarven, Terran, Gnomish, Orcish, and Gobin.
The good Deaon (Lawful Good) faithfully worships the gods of Healing and Thunder. He wields his hammer in service to his gods and all that is good.
Several companions have joined with him in his wanderings. A swan, Geeslaka, shows uncanny abilty in the field of not being killed (note: no combat abilities). Five chickens provide fresh eggs for the priest, his compainons, and poor folk.
The curch provided the gold for equipment, and most of the remaining money has been donated accordingly.

Perhaps we could give level adjustment races the abilities from Table 2-22: Apprentice Level Characters in the DMG instead of the full class abilities, and then upgrade them once they get 1000 experience? It would make the ECL races more equal with the standard ones at the start, and give their players something to look forward to between the start and level three.
Not that either way will make a difference to me as I'm going to be playing a plain old human. Well, time to choose a homeland and start working out my character's background.

Feats: Blooded (from the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting), Nobody's Fool (from Races of Faerun)
I could have probably made better feat choices than a pair of feats that give skill check bonuses, but these are the feats I'm going with
Possessions: Belt Pouch (Contains: chalk, flint and steel, potion of cure light wounds), Explorers Outfit(being worn), Backpack(Contains: cold weather outfit unless it's winter, in which case this is what's being worn, spare explorers outfit) Shortspear, Light Crossbow, 20 bolts

Total Weight: 33 lbs, light encumbrance, but pick up anything and I'll be in medium
Spells per day (5/4) DC 12 + spell level

It's three in the morning here on the East Coast of the US, so I'm going to go to bed now and put up Darvin's history and physical description in the afternoon or evening, in the meantime feel free to offer sugestions and nitpicks and to check my math.

I think that we are starting at level 1, you can multiclass when you level (that is how it is done in 3rd)

no
but Victor said to start at level one and we are playing 3rd I believe (which allows multclassing when you level)
Victor can correct me

if we are playing 2nd level characters (might be better than first, I don't know), than according to 3rd edition rules you could multiclass druid/monk (you would probably have to be lawful neutral tohugh)

|
hmm
monks of sun soul can multiclass (and continue training as monk afterwards) in any other class as long as Monk is the highest class
