Uh, but now I'm glad I don't live in a bureacracy country like few European countries, I just found out my application for housing never got there that I sent only like a month ago, and I need to move in 2 weeks to the new city to start Uni. So in other words I'm in DEEP POOP! What the heck, I just got on my knees and sent e-mail with my knees on the ground begging for anything. I think that'll help, I can't afford to be full of pride right now and demand service.. kind of on short notice . I blame the post office or the hippies working in their housing side though for losing my application. It would be nice to, you know have a place to sleep when in new city and all that

I think the most interesting thing about Pekka's posts is the downward spiral Finnland seems to be in. As time goes on, the level of services the tax base can afford continues to decrease. This implies an ever shrinking tax base - which seems the logical consequence of high taxes. I reference the Laffer Curve.

However, all this is predicted - the inevitable consequences of high taxes and progressive tax rates.

Obviously, Finnland needs the equivalent of a Republican party. Is there such an animal in Finnland?

Well, we have the national coalition party and christian democratic party that are fairly conservative. NCP is much like republican/democratic party in USA

I doubt that excessive corporate welfare, a regressive tax system, ballooning budget deficits and an irresponsible monetary policy will be much help.

Finland's tax base is growing, although not very fast. Because of this, Finland has to pick and choose carefully what it does with regard to government services.

Ok.. Well I guess you could say that NCP is like Republicans. But then again not.. since they wouldn't be even counted as lefties in the US.. but different systems all together so I guess you could say that.

I think some of their theories are ok, but I don't know if they would work any better.. but there's something I can identify with. But I'm not NCP man either, I loath Itälä.

States are not islands. Finland and Sweden aren't "falling behind" anyone that I can see. But their relative distance ahead of others is declining. The two are different. People who talk of "decline" usually cuase toruble, cause they fail to see the difference between relative and absolute positions.
