Spiffor is right. If you are part of the white power structure (I.E. White) then you get more lee-way. Can this ever be changed? I doubt it as long as the majority of the people are white. Therefor what use is there decrying it?

its called suspects and the police stop anyone who fulfills a reasonable amount of the description... they don't stop every white male or every white male in his 20's or 30's but if one is wearing a grey t-shirt or is driving a black Honda... there we go...

I don't know what you people mean by profiling, but when describing the pupetrator of a crime, let's say burglary, I think describing skin colour is just as logical as describing sex, eye colour, hair colour, height, build, etc.

I think "profiling" in this troll means for the police to consider blacks as more prone to crime, and to orient more efforts towards blacks, to apprehend more blacks when looking for undescribed suspects etc.

yeah thats not profiling... thats having a suspect and police looking for anyone of the relatively specific description of the suspect (ie- specific as in its not something as general as JUST the colour of their skin).

what spink is proposing is having police stop every single black person they ever encounter because black people have a slight higher percentage chance of committing crimes than white people

I mean, I can see why, and even condone special task forces of the police to deal with certain communities, that can cause more trouble ( and I buy myself immunity from flames, because I am myself a member (sort of) of a community which is blamed for a nice slice of organized crime, petty, and not so ) but checking out people on the street randomly because they're black white green or whatever is stupid.

another thing is that its horribly illegal... police stopping people when there's no reasonable suspicion, no suspect... hell there's not even a single crime that the police officer has in mind when he stops the individual... thats just plain illegal in any free country.

We have tons of this in France. The police can ask his ID to anyone at any moment. Needless to say, as a white, I have never been controlled by the French police. My brother was controlled only once, and that was when he came back very tan from vacation

It seems similar in Germany. Monday, when I was crossing the German border in the train, a few cops climbed in to check the IDs (it is not mandatory to do so when crossing a EU border, but it is legal when it happens). They have left the whole car alone, except for the only dark-skinned, seemingly Indian, couple.

This kind of things achieves nothing but to anger the hell out of their victims, if such treatment happens often enough

The fourth amendment of the US Constitution makes it illegal in the US... I assumed other countries had similiar laws. i cant imagine how they wouldnt

police in the us are still sometimes known for doing it but its illegal if brought to the attention of the court. this actually does result in the problem of evidence illegally found on a suspect (the police officer had no reasonable suspicion or nothing and illegally searched someone and discovered an illegal substance or weapons) being thrown out and the suspect obviously being found innocent as there's no evidence... i think they should be tried and convicted and THEN the criminal can sue for illegal search.

was checked for ID lots of times ( not for boose aquisition, though. ). Never bothered me the slightest. But I guess people can stress themselves out for just about anything.

Same here.
Unfortunately, most of our coloured people happen to be completely French with French nationality. I.e, it serves no purpose whatsoever. And of course, the fact that our coloured people are systematically favored for ID checks (and other things, such as looking at the pockets for drugs) makes sure they become more angry and feel separate from a country and a police who treats them as second class citizens
