I think one outward sign of depression is when you start trying to make yourself look the way you feel.

Having insomnia is one of those things that any good nurse could diagnose with a wet-nap in about 5 seconds.

The onset of depression can often be traced to a specific period of time in a person's life when an otherwise normal-looking person will begin to put effort into looking bad. That way, the picture you see in the mirror looks the way you feel.

actually, it's a nasty cycle. believe what you will. i had trouble going to see a shrink--still do. it was only the threat of being asked to leave school that made me seek any assisstance, medication or counseling. i didn't take the medication i was prescribed for a full week after i got it because i don't like the idea of pills screwing around with my head.

because i have this belief that i should be the rock others rely on, rather than relying on others, i didn't ask my friends for any support.

obviously, i was unable to work through it alone. when it's something chemical, completely unrelated to the situation, it doesn't matter how good the situation is.

'course, believe what you will. i don't care, and i don't need to convince you. as a matter of fact, don't bother trying to walk in my shoes for a mile: i'll tell you, you wouldn't like it, because you'd have everything to live for, and be unable to function at anything other than the most basic level. and it's not worth it, because you'd be like me. you'd never ask for help on your own, because remember, it's a matter of will.

It's not just my complete lack of a social life that is the problem. And I am quite confident actually, about most things anyway, but I just can't seem to get myself to do anything.

But thanks Lorizael (for starting the thread) and all the others. I talked to my parents about it now, and I guess I'll be making an appointment with my doctor soon.
