Nonetheless most do - despite the fact that these benefits are costly. Presumably they do so since the absence of mental health benefits would impair their ability to attract/retain employees. Ergo, employees/job seekers are assigning value to such benefits in their labor market decisions.

And since employees/job seekers are rational in their labor market behavior, it follows that mental health care IS of value. QED.

in fact i beleive it also follows that the value of mental health care will equal or exceed the after tax cost to employers to provide it - though i cant do the proof off the top of my head.

Sounds about right.

Not to mention £0.32/L for gas, and £138.48/mo for a 1-bedroom apartment, and £16/mo for 5Mbps broadband internet, and free local calling.

I could get a 1 bedroom apartment for nothing down the road. All it takes is a sledgehammer to break the wooden window-board.

OK now, repeat after me: I am NOT uncool. I have done some uncool things. They were understandable in context. I will do better in the future. I will probably still make some uncool posts, but thats OK. Its not that important anyway.

Bed by 9.30? Long times spent asleep are a classic symptom of depression.

Still, while he's tucked up with his hot water bottle and Ovaltine, I guess all the pill-popping students are out doing something interesting.

Mercator, please ignore him. If you wait to 'grow out of it', chances are you will have topped yourself before you have a chance to see if it works. As for taking risks socially...likely to lead to being a victim of crime, alcoholism or drug addiction. Oh aren't I a little ray of sunshine?!

Possibly, although there is much pressure in the UK for docs not to prescribe antibiotics, so they are a lot less over prescribed than they used to be. But yes, that is probably true.

I think one outward sign of depression is when you start trying to make yourself look the way you feel.

Having insomnia is one of those things that any good nurse could diagnose with a wet-nap in about 5 seconds.

The onset of depression can often be traced to a specific period of time in a person's life when an otherwise normal-looking person will begin to put effort into looking bad. That way, the picture you see in the mirror looks the way you feel.

guys like you make me sick

do you realize that all my unhappiness is YOUR fault?

actually, it's a nasty cycle. believe what you will. i had trouble going to see a shrink--still do. it was only the threat of being asked to leave school that made me seek any assisstance, medication or counseling. i didn't take the medication i was prescribed for a full week after i got it because i don't like the idea of pills screwing around with my head.

because i have this belief that i should be the rock others rely on, rather than relying on others, i didn't ask my friends for any support.

obviously, i was unable to work through it alone. when it's something chemical, completely unrelated to the situation, it doesn't matter how good the situation is.

'course, believe what you will. i don't care, and i don't need to convince you. as a matter of fact, don't bother trying to walk in my shoes for a mile: i'll tell you, you wouldn't like it, because you'd have everything to live for, and be unable to function at anything other than the most basic level. and it's not worth it, because you'd be like me. you'd never ask for help on your own, because remember, it's a matter of will.

I'm over 20...

Yeah, I'll just snap my fingers.

It's not just my complete lack of a social life that is the problem. And I am quite confident actually, about most things anyway, but I just can't seem to get myself to do anything.

But thanks Lorizael (for starting the thread) and all the others. I talked to my parents about it now, and I guess I'll be making an appointment with my doctor soon.
