Sent to Arrian. Hope you guys are OK with it.
quote: Greetings, Arrian.
I have two things I would like to discuss.
First - SPAM. This is the Society for the Prevention of Aggression against Monkeys. You can fully appreciate why I founded this society. Now, I would like to post a SPAM thread in the public forum. But, if the average member puts two and two together, they will figure out what is going on. And given the no communication until contact rule, it is only fair that you consent to such a thread. It will be 'fair and balanced' (hehe) and will plead for a more tolerant attitude toward simian species. It will be light-hearted, in keeping with the theme of this game. And it may just liven up a pretty dead public forum. What say ye?
Second - I appreciate that you must have a fairly solid alliance with the Python nation. But, if I read this right, at the end of this campaign (presuming it is successful - and that is not a given yet), your intention is that Python gets to set up its FP and second half of its nation down south where we are.
Well, what if we gave you a better offer? Monkey keeps its current land - and gets to settle the peninsula to the west. You get the rest of the continent.
This would seem to be a better set-up for you, versus having Python to your north and south. And it should be fairly easy to implement. We tie up the Python stack currently heading south. And you use the opportunity to run over Python's territory. If need be - we will lend assistance in this campaign - as soon as we have dispatched the Python invaders.
I acknowledge that this offer is clearly made with great self-interest on the part of us Monkeys. But it would also seem that it would also make sense for CoD. What say ye?
We are availble to chat about politics and alliances at your convenience.
Cheers ...Beta.
ps - If possible, try and get back to us shortly, before we start hurting each other. Thanks. |

His response:
quote: RE: SPAM - and other stuff.
Beta,
As I told conmcb25, CoD would rather you didn't start any SPAM posts in the public forum yet. If team Monkey had contact with the rest of the world (or at least contact with a civ that knew the others), I wouldn't have any problem with it. But honestly I don't want the other teams to know that Python and CoD are trying to conquer you. Think of it from our point of view. Imagine that you are an evil bastard bent on the destruction of Monkeyland Now imagine your enemy wishes to announce its plight to the world, which currently has no idea what you're up to. Not good from your strategic point of view, is it? So, as I said to con, I'm fine with the spirit of the idea, but object for in-game reasons.
As to your second question... sorry, but I gotta turn you down. CoD will keep its word to Python. We threw in our lot with them, and we will stick with it. It may come as a surprise to you, but this whole thing was entirely their idea. Nonetheless, we committed to it and will see it through. Sorry about that, old chap.

YOWZER!!!
Received this from Arrian. My response is attached. Their contact with other civs explains a lot. And will greatly lower the cost of republic. Also note they waited until we had triggered our golden age before they did this.

You mean it wasn't friendly last time??? I understand your point.
Thanks for the update and the 'go ahead'. I will await the posting of the world map.
Cheers! ..Beta

Beta,
FYI - CoD recently made a deal with Tabemono that passed contact with you over to them. So on your next turn, you should have contact with Tabemono. I'm afraid the conditions of our deal prevent Tabemono from giving you contact with the other teams. However, the deal also included a world map trade, which lacks a no-trade clause. That ought to shoot around the world rather quickly, especially since UnOrthOdOx has a public forum idea of his own. UnO wants a publicly posted world map - he thinks that will make things more interesting for outsiders, and I agree.
Anyway, once that thing goes around, anyone with half a brain will know that there is a war going on, because of the ruins.
Personally, I'd give SPAM a green light once the WM is distributed. I'll fire off a note to UnO asking him to inform you once it has. I've already told him about your desire to SPAM.
Let's both try and keep it friendly this time, ok?
Thanks,
-Arrian
quote: Arrian - I completely understand your position on the SPAM business. That is why I checked first. By rights - it was against the game guidelines anyway. And I can't say that our osition would be any different if the roles were reversed.
Now - my guess is that people will figure out sooner or later what is happening/or has happened on our continent. But then it it will be via legit contact in the game. So, to conclude, no problem whatsoever.
But they will be wondering how Python and CoD got eliminated so quickly. Who is going to believe us when we say that you started it???
...Beta.
Cheers. |

And his response. It is interesting reading bewteen the lines on this. (note - the first few lines were my response to him. )
Understood. Guess I will try Python next.
En garde and regards... Beta.

Beta,
So long as Python remains committed, so do we. CoD made a promise and we will keep it. Even in the face of heavy casualties. You have Numidians, so it's not like we expected a cake walk. Further, it was clear from the outset that you were playing it smart: toasting your border towns and pulling back, buying time.
I knew things were definitely gonna be rough when you guys so efficiently wiped out our pillaging team (heh, I had to try. It would've been brilliant if it had worked ).
In short, we know it will be ugly. We still expect to win. Even if we didn't, until Python called it off, we'd stick by them.

Ok Thanks, Arrian.
Any second thoughts about the current campaign? We will be chewing up Python pretty well. They have to be quite exposed right now.
We are willing to forgive and forget. Let us know.

His response and my response:
quote: Arrian - thanks for getting back to me.
Yes - I should've thought twice about posting the quote from the diplomatic PM. I will refrain from doing so in future. But you did get in many more words than I did.
Yes - as to our defence - learned a bit from the masters from last game.
And yup - I figured Krill didn't quite catch on. And I was so proud of my Kruger note.
Speaking of dogs, , what kind do you have?
As to the turn - yes - I was talking about last turn. We will see when it rolls around.
Again - let's stay in touch to make sure we don't mess this up.
Cheers ...Beta. |

Beta,
I am giving myself fairly constant reminders that this is all in good fun. I tend to get a little too focused on "the truth" and get worked up, but before actually erupting I'd talk to you guys about it first. It doesn't help that I really didn't want this war in the first place, and furthermore tried my best *not* to unduly screw Monkey out of some sort of misplaced sense of honor.
Re: the republic deal, that's fine. I understand your PoV on that one. Both teams had legitimate gripes with that situation, and there was no easy solution. I complicated matters with some faulty reasoning that resulted in the 400 gold offer.
By the way... are we authorizing each other to quote each other's diplomatic PMs? That was a departure from the usual rules. I actually don't mind - what you posted didn't bother me. But I'm not sure I want you posting lines from diplo PMs at will. Besides, why clutter up your propoganda with facts? Kidding, kidding.
-Arrian
p.s. Krill is kinda new to this, so bear with him.
p.p.s. Which turn? You mean when we moved our stack of horsemen within range of your troops? Or *this* turn, that Cort Haus hasn't finished playing yet?
Nice stack of catapults, by the way. Very "GS" of you. Cort made the move with the horsemen last turn, and I never even managed to comment before the turn was sent on (I'm increasingly MIA when I'm not at work - heh - because I got a dog recently, and it's a lot of work. Even w/o the dog, I don't often log on from home because my connection is garbage).

from and to Krill - now that the evacuation is complete.
Krill...
We would be amenable to a peace discussion. What did you have in mind - given that we do not have much of a civ left - and 7 land tiles to work with. Under any form of government, we now have waaaay too many units to support, so we will be converting them to shields for peaceful construction.
I am thinking tech and cash would greatly help the Monkey situation.
Also, any possibility of using some of the southern tundra tiles - including the luxury. This would clearly need to involve a longer term peace agreement, minimal if any military presence by the Simians, and on-site peacekeepers from CoD and/or Python.
Congrats as well to you and your team for a successful campaign. We knew it was only a matter of time - but we did not want to make it easy for you.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Cheers ...Beta.

Hi Beta,
First of all, congratulations on the withdrawal. It was well planed, and well exectuted
However, I would like to now ask if it would be possible to negoitiate a peace treaty. Neither side is in a position to attack the other - we both have sea walls - so we will be in a stalemate for a couple of years, if the game continues at its' current rate of play.
