Tired of ads?

DinoDoc, in the short term, yes. Like the merger of East and West Germany.

Still, we are now a crossroads. The Democrat party is now the home of Xenophobia. If we elect a Democrat like Dean, we will see the repeal of NAFTA and the WTO. This will severely damage the US economy, but it will devaste the Mexican economy. The pressure of poverty will force even more Mexicans to flee to the United States.

Clearly, in my view, the better road is to increase our cooperation with Mexico. I would not be surprised if this were a major issue in the upcoming election.

In the short term and long term. God, if you want to merge with another country at least choose one that wouldn't be such a useless drain on our resources (ex. the Bahamas). We had our chance to have Mexico and wisely chose not to take the whole thing.

You ancestors went into Texas and promised they would obey mexican laws. When Mexico sent the army to enforce the law you jackasses revolted because they were in the way of your "manifest destiny." Now you guys think of the creeps like Sam Houston as heroes, not as the ungrateful brats who broke thier promise to Mexico City they really were.

I don’t know if I should laugh or cry at that post. Compare Porto Rico's Per Capita Income figures to Jamaica or the Bahamas or Cuba or any other similar Caribbean nation. Hmmm, Porto Rico has the highest PCI. I wonder why that is so? Could it be the tariff free access to US markets or the stable currency or the billions in federal subsidies or maybe that they all are US citizens so theyget Social Security and all the other social programs?

To point out a few facts. When most of the Texans arrived in Texas Mexico was a democratic country. No body rebelled until after an horrible dictator siezed power and striped the people of their rights. When the people protested and petitioned the government Santa Anna response was to threaten to have all the white people driven out. That's when the rebellion happened.

BTW Several parts of Mexico also rebelled against Santa Anna's dictatorship. Texas was not the only one though it was the only successful one.

I think the right that most people protested over the loss thereof was the right to own slaves. Santa Anna outlawed slavery and the slaveowners rebelled, so he fought them. When he extended this law to Texas the Texan slaveowners, ex-Americans and Hispanic, fought him.

Plus they'd provide a nice buffer so that Albertan separatists would finally have to shut up. I figure that New York would do the same for Quebec...

Did you listen to the debate the other day. Dean basically called for tearing up current agreements, including the WTO. He said that he would refuse to trade with any country that did not have the same labor, safety and environmental standards as the US. Others questioned whether we would be so drastic, but did second the idea that we should "revise" the agreements to condition trade on "equivalent" labor, safety and environmental standards.

What does this all mean? If Mexico does not have a minimum wage the same as the US, NAFTA is over? If Mexican drivers aren't paid he same as US union teamsters, they cannot drive loads into the United States?

I somehow think these people cannot be serious, but you have heard much the same hear on this forum from the likes of Che and the others from the anti-globalist movement. It appears that Dean and many of the other Democrats have joined the anti-globalist movement.

Liebermann is highly critical of the other candidates, but he is trailing in the polls. I do not know where Clark stands.

Regardless, if Dean is nominated, this undoubtedly will be a major issue in the campaign. If he wins, Mexico and other trading partners now enjoying free trade can kiss prosperity good bye.
