GDNES3 - The war of the worlds
Hello everybody and welcome to the third one of the Giovanni’s Drunk Never Ending Stories series.
History:
It is the year 2178 and the world as we know it today has changed radically, as one of the greatest desires of humanity was reached: colonize the red planet, colonize Mars.
But let’s start from the beginning, from 2003 the Korean crisis had grown and grown, until in the late 2032 the catastrophe happened a North Korean nuclear warhead of 5 megatons exploded in Seoul, causing great devastation and death, the city was levelled and of the over 10 million people inhabiting the city only a few survived, the world condemned this, including the great North Korean ally: China.
Quickly the United States declared war on North Korea, to support and defend it’s allies, and with diplomatic (and some military) backing from just about any nation in the world they’ve invaded the peninsula, in order to stop the Northern Korean madness.
But things did not go as planned, when with great surprise China decided to intervene on behalf of the North, transforming the Korean war into a huge battle between the two strongest states in the planet. Surprisingly enough no nukes were launched from either side, and after 7 years of fighting, in which the world awaited with shock and horror the outcome of this war, thanks to their superior technology and tactics the United States came out as a victor. But at what price? Thousands and thousand of brave American soldiers were dead, the various bombing strikes from the Chinese destroyed many factories, and the US economy was in shamble.
With help from the EU and a strong India (which with the war managed to become a new economic powerhouse) the US could rebuild itself, but it could never claim back the position of number 1 in the world.
After the great defeat the People’s Republic of China was dissolved, Tibet and Manchuria claimed their independence and a civil war between the Imperialist and the Nationalist (backed by Taiwan) was fought on Chinese soil for another 10 years, ending with victory of the Imperialists, which recreated the Empire (making it a constitutional monarchy), the new emperor renamed himself Huang Di, in honour of his great ancient predecessor.
In the meanwhile the European Union which now consisted of all the European states including Turkey and Russia, have started to centralize transforming herself from an economical treaty to a real Confederation of States. A little later Australia joined the union as well, that was later renamed to Austro-European Union (AEU).
But not everything is good for them, as Chinese communist refugees who escaped from China after the proclamation of the Empire, and who established themselves into Siberia and later on in Moscow, managed to take the power in Russia. A civil war started in the newly born state, and once again a new war was bleeding the planet. In the end the Russians managed to win back their independence, and a new Communist threat was now menacing the world.
India helped the AEU in their rebuilding, and after a while the two powers signed an alliance, to counter the great Russian threat. The world fell into a new Cold War.
In North America things were not going better, because of the European wars the American market fell again, and a second civil war was thought in the US, this time it was the East against West, New York against California, Washington DC against Phoenix (the elected capital of the rebels). The east was supported by Mexico, which hoped to move the border a little north of the Rio Grande, while the west was supported by Canada, in exchange, in case of victory, the west agreed to sell them Alaska.
Europe (supporter of the Union) was busy in Russia, while India decided to remain neutral. In the end the rebels won, giving birth to the “Western American Federation” (WAF).
Good news are coming instead from the Middle East, were Israelis and Palestinians finally find a way to live side by side without hurting each other, in the next years Israel managed to win the friendship of their Arab neighbours, a friendship that brought welfare to both sides, as Israel finally found the peace it needed, while the Arabs could modernize their states and societies with Israel’s help.
In South America: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay tried to emulate the EU by creating a series of economic treaties: called the “La Paz Pact”, the pact managed to bring wealth to the countries and soon Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela and Colombia joined as well, while Suriname and Guyana have recently applied for membership.
Only Brazil, who was asked by the members to join in the pact, seems to not be interested, searching instead for profitable treaties with the USA, Europe, Canada and India.
Indian scientist managed to finally discover a way to create a sort of atmosphere on Mars, the project started with great secrecy, and a first little Indian base was placed on Mars in order to improve this first discovery, and to create a stable atmosphere in the red planet. Without other nations noticing it the Indians quickly established themselves on the Martian soil, and after many years of work a new formula was discovered, a formula that could give mars an atmosphere, that could create clouds, and therefore rain, and therefore seas and river
In late 2130 the planet was ready for colonization, the changes did not go unnoticed this time, and a race between the major world countries began, in order to claim most of the pie. Also other nations (such as Argentina, Brazil, South Africa, Israel, Pakistan and even Ethiopia) established a few settlements on the (no longer) red planet.
But Earth was far away, and earthling control over Mars was hard, it took only 34 years that a Chinese colony rebelled from its mother countries, giving birth to the powerful Republic of Akassou, soon other colonies followed, and soon the Cold War arrived there as well, as the new nations tried to find a form of government for themselves.
It is now up to you to continue this story.
Rules:
Well, I don’t think there is any need for them as most of us already now NES’s rules but... :
- All players must pick a nation and write stories/diplomacy about it and interact with the other players
- This is a story-game the purpose is to have fun, and write interesting stories, so you must also accept defeat every so often.
- Much like most new NESes I will moderate all battles and do the diplomacy for all the Non-Player Countries
- Updates will be every Tuesday and Friday (at evening GMT)
- NO NUKES OR SUPERWEAPONS ALLOWED, I will judge if something is a super weapon or not, and will have final word on it (This is not democracy!  )

We have been getting reports that the Mormons in Utah have been threatening several Muslim groups. We politely ask, in the interests of religious tolerance, that you put an end to this.

Emperor Huang Di, the glorious, has finished the move of the whole cabinet to the forbidden city, Beijing, old district. His advisors chose 50 nobles to serve the empire as ambassadors.

Your nation is the world leader in almost all parts of society, and we admire that status.
Of course we are interested in economic aid, although we don´t need it that badly...
Now here´s our proposal:
You could give us fish, but once it was eaten, we´d starve again. Teach us fishing instead
We would be interested in new technologies, especially on the civilian sector. Our great emperor would like to found the "Asian University", where all knowledge of whole Asia is collected and tought to future generations, for it shall never be lost again...

Update
- US spies managed to infiltrate into the New Boston Empire, under the protection of the American ambassador in there they are now working to install an impornt web of informants, in order to be always updated of the new events going on in New Boston.
- A similar operation was attempted in the WAF, but given the high alert of the WAFian counter-intelligence they couldn't achieve much.
- The WAF economy is slowly catching up with the USA one, also thanks to help from Canada
- In the USA the government in his attempt to expand it's army has started the production of some new military hardware, such as new tanks, also in order to increase their number of recruits it was given the soldiers a little increase of their salaries as well.
New recruits are now training at US Military camps.
- Thanks to the new peace in China, the Chinese economy seems to getting better, foreign investors are now placing some bids on China by investing on their companies, the economy of China seems now more stable than before.

Hurricane strikes in the Philippines
Hurricane Isadore striked today against the Philippinian city of Ilagan and Aparri, and is moving fast toward the Chinese island of Taiwan.
Almost 60.000.000 INR (Indian Rupee)* worth of damage was caused by the passage of Isadore, and over a thousand of families are now without a home
*In order to make things easier, let's just prentend that 1 Indian Rupee is roughly equal to 1 modern $ or €
Indian economy best in the world
According to the "Calcuttan Economist" thanks to recent laws and new permission given by the state in order to further expand it's economy base, the Indian state if firmly the economic world leader.
Religious Tolerance Meeting at Lhasa
The Tibetan capital of Lhasa will be soon the center of a summit over religious tolerance, which was promoted by India. All world's religious eaders have been invited: between them Pope John XXIV already said he will reach Lhasa as soon as possible.
Great celebration in Beijing for re-opening of the Forbidden City
The people of China have today manifested their joy for the fact that the center of the government, as well as the Emperor's residence have moved back to the Forbidden City, in Beijing a huge manifestation was held throgh the streets, people have been chanting their love for the Emperor for hours and hours. The celebration lasted for 2 long days.
Also some people said that Emperor Huang Di will soon be married to the Manchu's emperor oldest daughter, although this news was not confirmed yet by any official statement of the two Empires.
Diamoutene's navy enters Russia's national waters during exercise
During their exercise one of the admiral ships of the Diamoutene's Naval Forces entered by mistake into the National Waters of the Russian Colony on Mars.
The big ship was immediatly sent back and the incident seems to be ended here, although it is still a mistery why Diamoutene was practicing so near the Russian waters.

News
Today the seven days celebrations in Beijing have ended with
huge fireworks and hundreds of dancing shows and theatre events.
Emperor Huang Di the Glorious has made a speech to the nation, in which he expressed his gratitude for the broad support by the people.
Meanwhile, to the south, a terrible hurricane called "Isadore" approaches the shores of Taiwan. The great emperor has created a public fond worth millions of INRs in order to counter the huge economic and social damages the storm is expected to cause.
People are advised to leave for the mainland, and the old airstrike-shelters are reopened to the public to hide from Isadore. Ferry transfers from Taiwan to Fuzhou (mainland China) are temporarily for free, which causes hundredthousands of Taiwaneese to leave the Island.
About three millions of conscripted soldiers in addition to almost one million professional ones help preparing the coastal cities for the expected floodings and storms. Sandbags are bought from all over the world, hopefully at fair prices.
The rather big part of 15% of the hurricane fond is granted to the Phillipines to rebuild the infrastructure there. Great emperor Huang Di hopes to improve the panasian relations of China by immediate actions instead of just talking about it...
At last, foreign reporters are invited to the locations at own risk to broadcast the natural desaster (and its handling ) into the whole world. Hopefully this will initiate a global feeling of solidarity...

Of course we appreciate your food shipments! Thank you for your help in these times of trouble.
But your unwillingness to share your knowledge with your Asian brothers upsets our people. Please think it over, since both of our nations would profit from the "Asian University". Think of all those Indian professors teaching eager students, the even greater reputation the Indians would enjoy throughout the world, and not least the Indian research and high-tech corporations paying practically no taxes and being supplied by the best educated employees...

Great emperor Huang Di, the glorious, announces the marriage with your princess Dai Yen for February 25th, 2178 ad.
Shall this event be memorized as the beginning of the common future of Manchuria and China, two countries, one people.
To the Chinese rogue province of Tibet
Despite the political differences between Huang Di, your and our emperor, and the rogues currently steering Tibet away from its Chinese heritage, we see the important meaning of religious tolerance.
May the visit of the Confucian philosopher Zhe Dong and the Buddhistic monk Lao Wang (current advisor of internal affairs in the forbidden city) to Lhasa show the world our reasonable and fair handling of politics.
May the Tibetian people soon be enlighted by Buddha to come back to the great Chinese empire, where they truly belong, and ever have belonged.

- Further increase economy, use it to pay all the security measures taken in Taiwan / Southern China and to rebuild what will be damaged or destroyed by the storm.
- Found the "Asian University" in Kunming. Either with or without the Indians. Invite other foreign powers to send their intellectual elites to this temple of knowledge, as the project is called by the people

......India would like to give China agricultural technologies, free of charge, so that our Asian brothers may benefit from it. We are also sending several intellectuals to this Asian University.
We also wish to give you several billion INRs to help prepare your nation for the horrible natural disaster Isadore. We also would like to propose that part of the physical university have architectural styles from each nation, in order to help celebrate diversity and create a wonder of the world.
To AEU:
Kashmir is rightfully ours. The Muslim extremists, supported by Pakistan, have ruind it from it's former beauty and even now continue to destroy it. We can no longer idly sit by and watch our homeland being raped by Pakistan.

From the WAF
While we have a common heritage, the WAF is a seperate nation in its own rights. You seem to forget this. While we will not provoke you, we do not wish to see any US operations close to the WAF.
To Canada, Mexico and New Boston (secret)
We ask that we all sign a dedfensive pact against possible US aggressions.
To Tibet
We will attend your relgious confrence even though we practice tolerence as is.
WAF Orders (secret)
Continue counter-intellegence.
Use satelite systems (majority of these were operated from out west so are under my command, to provide surviellence on WAF borders and on the United States.
Begin rearming the army with better weapons
Continue to expand the economy through opening trade with Canada.
Send Mormon, Catholic, Protestant, Islamic and other relgious leaders of the WAF as a Unified WAF segment to the Relgious Tolerance Summit in Lhasa. Promote the WAF as the land of relgious, economic, political freedom.
