yeah, that seems to happen a lot. one of the bestsellers in recent memory in korea was of n and skorea somehow reuniting and then invading japan. a blockbuster movie (which sucked) [2009 Lost Memories] had an alternate history where japan still occupied korea, so they overthrow the japanese and set up a nice little workers' paradise.

to Taiwan. If Taiwan declares independence, and the PRC goes to war, I'd like to see a general US boycott of Chinese goods (that is, a voluntary one).

Of course I don't favor going to war with China over the Taiwan issue, although I'd certainly be more in favor of a war with China over Taiwan than a war in Iraq or the Balkans.

I dont think China is in a position to attack Tawain. To do that they need a navy that is actually able to project power and to land troops on to an island with no ports. The Chinese as far as I know dont have that right now. I think it is just a bunch of hot gas they blowing out of their mouth.

If China did start a war over this issue, the entire Chinese economy could collopase because of it.

Yes, but the Rooskies were a bloated corpse of a country by then, and they still don't have their **** together. The Baltic states were able to be pretty functional and the Rooskies had no economic leverage at all with the rest of Europe, or anyplace else significfant for that matter.

What does taiwan gain from delcaring independence? Besides, even their own cosntitution declares there to be one China..which is what the prez wants to change and why the Chinese got snippy. Real useless move, specially at a time Taiwanese are investing so heavily in China, and no, i don;t see the US going too for Taiwan, no matter what rabid folks in Congress think.
