Lets give this 5 turns or so to see how it works out. BUT, To OctX, I reserve the right to ask for a time change, If it turns out to be too much of a problem.

I'm thinking of the impact if/when Paddy and or you go to a more normal schedule in say, six months.
If all the games are finished and you are still in the ancient era, what do the rest of us do? Have another tournament while we wait?
The overall impact on the entire tourney is why I am speaking up. If start positions are the concern, then it should be easy enough for the games to be restarted with a proper, in agreement with the rotation of the Earth, player order that preserves the starts.

Yes, that's what I'm afraid of too.

Although my start is rather mediocre, that's not the reason why I disliked this game. It's the "the damage is done, but let's stick it out" attitude of my game-mates, while it was still time to get it right, or even to defend it by stating, that an east-east-east-east turn order is just as good as a west-west-west-west one . I won't slow down this game deliberately. But overall I tend to care less about games I dislike and if I return from work and have a bunch of games to play, they are usually the last.

Enjoy it, while it lasts.

As I already pointed out, if everyone or even half could only play at one specific time of day, then your East to West routine would be better. There's no doubt about that. But, since Paddy, ET and myself can play a different times, each day, then we don't have a problem.
But since you are threatening to put this game on your back burner, so to speak, I will oblige you in asking Oct to restart the game with each person in their same start location and Civ but with your revised turn order. The game has not gone that many turns that restarting it would be too much of a waste.
Oct: Can you please restart game #4 with the correct turn order as lined out my Sir Ralph. Please keep everyone in their same start location's and with their respective Civ's. Thanks.
Paddy & ET: Will you give your blessings for this action? |
Sigh, What ever will have the best bet of making this game have the endurance to stay going...
Although, I have just finished my 4th turn, in less than 3 days on this and had figured atleast 1 more turn before the "day" is out. But What ever will please our German friend.
Go 'head Oct. lets get this game going, in one form or another

I think under these circumstance it's better if you restart the game without me. With this attitude in the game, I don't think it will turn out fun. And fun is the only reason I am playing at all. All else is called "waste of time".
All I did so far was meant to improve the chance of the game to last long and be enjoyable. I have started a lots of PBEM games in the last year, and most of them were stalled or died at some point, because people didn't care, suddenly disappeared and so on. Not a single, and I repeat: not a single of these games died because I didn't play in time. Ask anyone in the games I play, if I am a slow player. You hardly will find anyone who'd say this, at least being serious.
I don't think I want to stay in a game, where the other participants feel that they have to change their rules to please me. If you want to restart, do it please without me. The damage to the game has been done in turn 1. Since the majority decided to continue, so be it. It will go slower than it could, but be by far not the slowest game I'm in. The main problem (beta quality and expected rule changes which will impact the early game as well) remains in any way.
