Support Apolyton, buy Call to Power 2

Sounds like a good plan to me. I especially like the warrior-for-upgrade idea. Build for 10 and, where unneeded, disband for 15. It's a profit deal!!

Happy Civing....

Us against Them - 10 turns

1480 (0) -- Fairly sturdy Republic (not for long I suspect) 33 cities housing 7.86M citizens. Sliders at 2.2.6 giving 131-55g 3 turns/advance (612beakers) short on Marketplaces at first glance. As ever, corruption off the home continent is through the roof. Carthage needs quite a bit more irrigation, but could then grow some. Babylonians, Uncooperative, Peace; Spanish, Enraged, War; Sioux, Hostile, War.
Proposal - switch to soft celebrating Fundy on a cash economy for an aggresive spurt of white good shopping and, mayhap, buy Soiuxland while doing this. Sliders to 0.6.4, Revolt, employ many Elvi ...

1500(1) = The Dean proclaimed first Chaplain of the Institiutional Fundamentality. Income now 382-33g; 51 turns/advance (30beakers). Ship chain to Babylon nearly in place. Much celebration induced. Many white goods started.

Babylon builds KRC, Sioux & Spanish abandon, Sioux land near Crete, Spanish Ellie kills dip near West of Spain.

1510(2) = 20 cities celebrate, 3 Temples & 2 MPs completed, 5 caravans built. 513g in treasury. Dip rushed in W o S. Even Farther founded. Dip rushed in Verona. Dip finds cache of 100g in a disused village. Silver(d), Carthage-Nineveh, 755g . Spice, Carthage-Babylon, 266g. Spend over 1400g on white goods.

Soux Caravel attacks Galleon with 2 caravans and a ?horse? on board - loses . German Explorer sighted on South Pole.

1520(3) = 2 more Celebrations, 6 MPs, a Temple, an Aqueduct (mistake), 2 Dips, 3 Vans & the first Clad . Coal, Malaca-LBH, 248g. Coal, Selinus-LBH 236g (box full, but wounded Galleon is now faced by second Sioux Caravel and looks to be sunk). Verona Musk trashes Sioux Cat. Barcelona located.

Meet the Romans on the South Pole - We refuse to give them Republic - they declare War.

1530(4) = 6 MPs, 2 Caravans. Explosives->Conscription - Leo does his thing. Gems, Gitba-Carthage, 96g; Silver, Theveste-Carthage, 96g; Verona Musk becomes vet blowing away Sioux Archer. Salt(d), Leptis Parva-Babylon, 244g.

1540(5) = 3 MPs, an Aqueduct & 2 more celebrations. The Empire is Celebrating. Gold, Leptis Magna-Carthage, 261g. Another City founded. Dye(d), Utica-Ellipi, 220g. Dye, Seguntum-Babylon, 70g. Nanking located, bribed (256g - 31g & Economics). We are nearly ready for Democracy.

1550(6) = Population 8M. 3 more Temples completed. Silk, Gades-Nineveh, 122g. Gems, Carthage-Babylon, 272g. Cloth, Rusicade-Babylon, 126g. Beads, Cartenna-Babylon, 126g.

Babs sneak attack and kill isolated Crook.

1560(7) = 2 Temples. Conscription->Fundamentalism. Copper(d), Carthago-Carthage,

162g. Barcelona bribed (490-98g & Warrior Code).

1570(8) = Assorted deliveries to Babylon, 522g. Verona forces repel Spanish & Sioux incursion.

1580(9) = Hamburg with Pyramids & Feudalism bought for 2000g.

1590(10) = Baulked by a settler from buying my second spanish city - I pass the conch.

We can probably go to a Democracy now - but be aware that the fleet - 3 clads & a Frigate - is at sea bound for siouxland.

Post Scriptum

The last turn is hardly begun - I had to close quite rapidly last night in order to give a night class - hate 'em!

It was great fun playing in my favourite government whilst prepping for another

Summary

2 cities founded & 3 bribed
2 advances earned & 3 acquired - although two of those are 'backfill'
1 WoW
but the object was to improve the infrastructure to which end I built
13 Temples
21 Marketplaces
3 Aqueducts
2 Harbours
1 Barracks
The Empire now makes circa 850g profit/turn

Enjoy, Stu

Institutional Turnlog Put an end to popups!

Mid-turn in 1590, Big Bun is installed as Chaplain. The realm is in soft Fundy, halfway to hard Fundy, and netting 908 GP/turn at 60-0-40. We seem to have a tech lead, but with embassies prohibited, can't be certain.

Goals:
--Explore; try to confirm the "circular earth" theory
--Continue trade with Babs, but reduce to zoo status
--Expand mobility by establishing an Eastern shipchain
--Solidify power base in Spanish, German lands
--Find Romans
--Tech goals: RR (Darwin), Indust (transports), progress miltech -->> Cavalry

End of 1590:
--Babylon deliveries: Rusicade silk 126, Carthage wool 272.
--Change various build orders, rushbuy some white goods, increment some units.
--Change 2 Carthage workers from taxmen to Eins.
--SG[1] has set the stage nicely, so -- REVOLUTION!!

1600 (1)
--Roman horsie turns Hamburg musket to vet
--Two engineers added
--Big Bun named Vice Chancellor of Institutional Democracy.
--Closer to Germa grows, disorder
--Beads, Carthago to Carthage, 81 GP (+6 route). Silk, Saguntum to Babylon 74 GP.
--Cordoba (7) revolts to the Institutional cause for 812 GP (120 plunder, 2 legions, library. Sell Granary.

1610 (2)
--WT Vice Chancellor celebrated in 28 cities (all but 3 of the eligibles)
--Add some dips, increment some camels.
--Spanish chat (4 spears) -- CF denied buut Senate overrules us. They offer 300 for peace. We decline and the Senate is OK with that.
--Germans (2 arrows) also want to chat: Demand gunpowder (no), suggest CF (no, but Senate intervenes), then offer peace (denied, but Senate signs treaty). Democracy can be such a drag!
--Sliders move to 30-10-60.
--Since we won't be able to buy many cities, build orders for White Goods and increments abound.

1620 (3)
--Dip enters Cordoba, gives us pretext, so we declare WAR! on Spain. Two Ellies killed.
--Add one more WLTVCD.
--We discover Fundamentalism and the workshop upgrades our units. Railroad is next.
--Harbor, 3 aqueducts added.
--Seviille revolts for 648 (64 plunder).
--Konigsberg (8)mapped.
--Bebylon deliveries: Malaca silk 122, Utica beads 120, Carthage gems 272, Cartenna silk 132.

1630 (4)
--Spanish chat, blasted Senate grants CF. 300 offered for peace, we decline.
--WLTVCD +2
--Temple, 2 aqueducts, 3 engineers completed. Pre-Darwin camel rush begins.
--Disorder in Cordoba.
--Hut reveals advanced tribe of Prague (size 4, with temple )
--Many defenders spotted rushing into Babylon.
--More Babylon deliveries: Carthage dye 272, Panormus beads 160, Leptis Parva silk 148.
--Spanish wanna chat again. We decline, but Senate goes behind our back and signs peace treaty.

1640 (5)
--Spanish begin construction of Sun Tzu. (Big Bun hopes they finish it about the time we get cavalry... )
--WLTVC +1
--Temple, 4 aqueducts, 3 more engineers added.
--Panormus awarded government contract as future site of Darwin's. Camels laden with food for construction crew head in that direction.
--Cloth, Caralis to Babylon 164 GP.

1650 (6)
--Germans commit an act of espionage. We declare WAR!
--WLTVC +1, but 3 cities end celbrations.
--One-each harbor, aqueduct, temple, sewer system added.
--Beads, Western Island to Carthage 104 GP.
--Konigsberg revolts for 880gp (78 plunder, 3 knights, legion, settler). will be nice when Leo upgrades!
--We spend virtually all our cash.

1660 (7)
--Germans chat -- Senate forces peace. Hoping to find a war pretext, we ask them to attack Romans, which they would do for 300 GP. We decline, preferring to do our own dirty work.
--We discover the Railroad, obsoleting HG. About half our cities stop celebrating. Leo does his magic. Industrialization selected (over Chivalry, electricity, Theology, and Atomic Theory).
--Toledo, Madrid mapped.
--Deliveries to Ninevah: Selinus cloth 41, Girba silk 126, Theveste beads 115.
--Deliveries to Babylon (all silk): from Carthago 40, Leptis Magna 120, Tingis 87.
--Bab city of Uruk revolts for 381 (60 back, plus legion and settler).
--Roman city of Syracuse (2) revolts for 172 (14 bac, plus phalanx, horse, trireme).
--Romans want to chat, we refuse. Senate goes behind Big Bun's Back and signs peace treaty.
--Looow on funds for more white goods, celebrations ending, and sick to death of the damned senate. Sounds like a good time for a REVOLUTION!

1670 (8)
--Big Bun declared Chaplain of new (hard) Institutional Fundamentalism.
--Babs (4 arrows) chat, offer 750 GP for cease fire. We stay at WAR!
--German diplomat spotted and expelled from Hamburg area.
--Camel convergence continues. Shipchain east getting close. Engineers stop irrigating, start building RRs.

1680 (9)
--Germans warn of treaty violation near Berlin. Spanish feel the same about our presence near Toledo.
--WT Chaplain celebrated in 25 cities.
--Hut reveals adv. tribe of Salzburg (3), complete with temple and library.
--deliveries to Little Bighorn: silk (d) from Oea 684 ; silk from Himera (oops, meant to send to homeland) 64, Spice from Far West 124.
--Ellipi (8) revolts for 1320. Plunder 182, gain 2 musketeers and a pikeman.

1690 (10)
--Faders are now at 40-0-60.
--Industrialization discovered. chivalry selected over Communism.
--Our 'clads empty Little Bighorn, which we enter and capture (171 plunder, minus 136 used to bribe nearby spanish ellie.
--Bribe Cadiz (3) for 219 (51 plunder, plus legion and trireme). Nearby catpult bribed for 144.
--Darwin's Expedition completed in Panormus, camel production returns to trade goods.

Upset at having saved 12 camels for a WoW costing 400 shields, Chaplain Big Bun retires.

History will remember: having more than doubled the population while adding considerable white goods. some decent exploration, but not quite circumnavigating the ribbon world. Eastern shipchain needs only a couple more units (easily affordable under Fundy) in order to be functionallycomplete.

Once our income is stabilized, we will have an opportunity for more democratic growth -- but WHY? We should have sufficient strentgh to run roughshod over the world without bothering...
The next turnset should be lots of fun -- who wants next?

Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

Notes to Next:

1. Darwin's is complete. You'll get chivalry first, so do your tech planning before hitting ENTER. You might go commy/espionage, or head for dragoons/cavalry (my choice).

2. You have 4 leftover food camels (oops) -- with both Sun Tzu and Women's Suffrage available. My choice would Suffrage, for even greater celebrations.

3. Once the eastern shipchain is in place, some VERY long-distance trading can commence. The Babylon shipchain might be converted to military use at that time. I've been accumulating some dips toward pulling down Babylon's city walls.

4. The're a south pole explorer who just found a bit of land, and an easbound transport-with-dip who should meet him very soon -- completing our circumnavigation of this infernal ribbon world.

5. Celebrations should be able to withstand the transfer of additional Lux to Taxes (currently at 40-0-60).

This is definitely turning into a romp. Our biggest limitation will be tracking down missing cities on this big map. (For this reason, I decided it was too early to snuff any civs lest they restart in obscure positions.)

Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

Great -- I'm almost waiting to see the call to drop to 5 turns each.

(Five sets of taxes done, only three more to go! (Too bad one of them is a bit complex.))

But it looks like I could be next (after Lazy -- almost done.)

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Well done, Buns!! Good call going Demo, too.

Looking at the list of WOWs, Adam Smith is asking to be taken. It would add ~50g per turn. It is just a question of "finding" it...which is not a problem if certain techniques are allowed in this game. Are they??

Support Apolyton, buy Alpha Centauri

I'm a big Adam Smith fan. Pays for itself within a handful of turns -- great ROI.

Re demo -- all credit to SG[1], who bought enough white goods to make it possible. Could've stayed in it a few more turns, but considering our goals in this game, I didn't see the point of stretching ourselves thin after the SSC had reached 26 and most other cities had reached their legal limit (8 or 12).

Love the new avatar!

The new tar IS rather spellbinding, isn't it?? On your behalf I removed a part of the image. The original had a rabbit head in the cyrstal ball and I didn't want to give the wrong impression.

I think it is great when Sxn games have succeeding players developing the same strategy. The results are so very satisfying.

Is it legal to use the search the "dark" techniques I asked about??

Romps are no fun, just figuring out how to end it as quickly as possible. We are past 1500; isn't that enough to cut off the restarts, or is is 1750?

We are nearly 6 weeks into this Free-For-All; we seem to have dropped the "first poster wins" mentality and gone back to the "I'll take it for this week" mindset...
