Again, i don't want to threadjack.

Quick and dirty, I see government having the responsibility to witness, and issue marriage licenses. They do not have the right to redefine.

Don't worry about it. Stewart painted him as a racist after he tried to push his way into national politics. Last I heard he was done.

Ugh! I hate when people are pushed down for being 'racist' when they are anything but.

Oh, and since I'm also against Affirmative Action, does that still make me a moderate Lefty Fez?

Not to familiar with the NJ politicians. My favorite is a county chairman from Niagara County near Buffalo. Good guy, ex-JAG, got a hot wife. Name of Henry Wojtaszek.

Tired of ads?

"Kerry opposed a balanced budget amendment (which I do as well, it's moronic), but that doesn't mean he's against balanced budgets in general. "

Just look at his career record. He has never been a fan of fiscal responsibility and has consistently favored greater spending on everything other then defense.

"And Bush had to be dragged kicking and screaming to Campaign Finance Reform, like Clinton had to with Welfare Reform. He doesn't back it and would love to it struck down."

Why? McCain Feingold's rules onsoft money has greatly benefited the GOP because the Dems relied on that more then the GOP.

"
And YES, I'm blaming GW for France. He could have easily soothed their pride like his father did. But, GW is no GHW."

We did make every effort to appease the French. We even accepted their initial UNSC plan that would require going back to the UNSC if a violation was found. Do you think Chirac is a moron who sways and bends at people paying respect to Gallic pride?

Chirac had his own interests in protecting his oil partner and in his own domestic popularity in opposing the war.

I wonder, Imran, would you have opposed Reagan as well? He too had a problem with deficits and with our foreign allies.

You're being short-sited. You are just looking at his campaign promises and what the initial situation will look like after Kerry is elected. You need to consider the fact you if elected you would then have a far-left Democratic liberal, one who has not been effected by Clinton's wave of Moderation, who has continued to stay to the far left (National Journal rated him the most liberal Senator in 2003), who would have the chance to leave his mark on the country for 4 or 8 years.

Ah county chairs .

Bob Franks you may have heard of. He was the one who lost to Senator Corzine after getting outspent 17:1 in the general election. Senator Corzine spend $30 mill in the primaries (to knock of former Governor Jim Florid) and $30 mill in the general.

Good showing, but he wrecked his career the next year when for the race for Gov, Dom Difrancesco (who took over when Whitman went for EPA) was exposed for corruption. Franks had like a month until the primary vote. They all underestimated Schundler, who kicked the crap out of unprepared Franks. Now Franks i's a pharma lobbyist, last I heard.

Actually, he was a racist. Kind of a jackass too. Affirmative action is discrimination...

IRAQ WAR: For
ABORTION: Against, except in the case of rape (no love there my firend)

But with the judiciary getting older and older, it's likely Kerry if elected would be a chance to name some of their replacements if elected.

And it's good a thing precedent isn't infallible or else you might not be able to end law school with White law students. The Court has changed in the contents of it's decision based on it's prevailing ideology in the past and can well do so again.

Do you know how extrodinarily tough that is? There have been few cases (relative to total case load) which have been completely overruled. And I don't really don't see how AA can be further expanded anytime soon.

But it can has happen, has happened, and will happen in the future. And by letting Kerry pick the judiciary, you can bet you won't get a SCOTUS majority in favor of renouncing AA for decades.

Preferably Libertarian, but if not, then whatever party best fits their principles. Maybe it will throw the election to Kerry like Nader did for Dubya, but so what? What's Kerry going to do that's worse than Bush? Run record deficits? Put in a massive new entitlement program? Throw money at the NEA?

Good thread, Imran. Sort of a Republican support group, you know?

Like a lot of people on this thread I defined myself as "socially left/fiscally right", which to the average schlub essentially means a smaller government, less taxes, and pro-choice. Tragically we have found ourselves with the Republican variant of Lyndon Baines Johnson; a president who loves to fight wars, both social and military, and will spare no cost in doing so. Dubya has shown himself to be "Socially right/fiscally left" in just about every decision he has made: tariffs, budgets, wars, Patriot Act, gays, stem cells, science funding, hell, even the Janet Jackson thing a month ago... is this all the FCC has to work on?

I didn't want this. To give y'all an idea of what sort of Republicans Laura and I are/were, back in 1997 we had 50 "Forbes 2000" bumper stickers printed up at our cost and passed them out around town. I don't even think his campaign made it to Georgia in 2000, but I'm pretty damned sure that if we had actually elected that sad-looking man to the presidency we wouldn't be talking about a constitutional amendment legalizing discrimination. :sigh:

As far as this election is concerned, I'll take a better look at Kerry than I did Al Gore, that is for certain. Whether or not I vote for him remains to be seen... but I am not going to dismiss the Democratic nominee as before.
