Oh, well maybe I'll go back in then. But there are zillions of dumb commandoes, and although they give you fire arrows, they're a pain to kill.
Is the ghost quest worth doing then? Can you give me a clue as to the nature of the "something"?

Branwen has reached level 6, and has the Dispel Magic Spell. How does this work? Will it dispel magic already cast (as long as it's a longish-term spell), or will it prevent magic being cast, or both?

Exactly.

It has an area about the same as Silence 15" Radius.

Best used to get rid of charm/fear spells on your own party, since in BG1 you don't meet many enemies who cast protective magic on themselves.

Dispel magic only dispels spells with a duration time.
Petrifiction - and same for curse - is permanent.

I finally got my Baldur's Gate game

It's the 3 CD set with TOTSC on it as well. I always had problemw with the original 6 CD game. I had 2 copies of the game that wouldn't work.

Now hopefully I can complete this game.

I do have save game from within the city of Baldur's Gate, but I couldn't resist creating a new character and starting from the beginning.

I created a lawful evil half-elf fighter. I was going to do ranger, but the fighter can do weapon grand mastery I believe, and ranger can't. I wanted to get 5 points in bows.

I am currently about to go into the Nashkel mines. I wanted to get that overwith because I'm tired of my weapons breaking. Although that's not a concern now because 2 of the weapons that keep breaking, I bought magical +1 versions of (Montaron's short sword, Viconia's mace, and Kagains axe). My character's halbard never seems to break, neither does his plate mail or longbow. But I may as well clear out the mines.

I like my all evil party. Although items can be expensive when your rep is only 6 or 7. I got it up to 8 now. Although I can't really roleplay doing nice things, but I think my rep was getting too low. That Paladin in the wilderness north of Gnoll's stronghold attacked me when I talked to him. Normally he asks you to clear out some gnolls, or some other creature. He's in the area by the ogre beserkers on the left side of the river. Even though he attacked me, I still lost 2 rep points. I reloaded, because I think with a rep under 6 people more people will attack, right? I'm not sure. I did have it under 6 one time, but no one attacked me immediately, so I'm not sure.

Xcar and Montaron are pretty fun. I like when Xcar (spelled wrong I think) says: Stop touching me!. And what he says when he gets real injured and is about to die. And I have edwin and viconia of course. Along with Kagain. 2 mages isn't really necessary in BG1 compared to BG2, but I wanted Montaron. I'll use him as my thief.

One thing that does annoy me is the gnoll stronghold. I hate respawning monsters. This is still my main annoyance with BG1 compared to BG2. I haven't done the xvart village yet, but eventually I'll do that. They respawn as well. very annoying.

interesting to note that I can still recruite Minsc, even though I killed Dynaheir (I have Edwin in my party). He doesn't know she's dead. I wonder what happens if I got back to the gnoll stronghold with him in my party. I don't think her body is there anymore. In fact, I chunkified it. Her puny hitpoints had no chance against my fighters.

Edwin said he'd only stay on for 1 year, but I doubt he will leave. Although I can't imagine the game will take over 1 year.

anyone know how to kill mustard jellies? or are they called mustard oozes.

well either way I can't kill them. I killed the wizard who was creating them, but I can't remember how to kill the jellies. I don't have fireball yet. And burning hands does not work either. those things are tough.

thanks. I noticed one weapon was hitting, but I couldn't tell who. I suppose I have to turn on attack rolls to figure out who is doing what damage. I can't tell who is doing the most damage. So it must have been my mace +1.

I'm going to need more weapons.

does anyone know if that smithy in Beregost will make more than 1 set of Ankheg armour? I would like to get another set if I could. If not, i'll have to buy full plate male. But I don't even get the option of selling the ankheg shell either, I'd like to do something with it.

Right now I'm in an area east of the temple. I think I'll stop for the day. Those lesser basilisks are kicking my ass. I can't remember how I took them out before. I need a better strategy.

P.S. I finally did get those oozes. I had to wait until I got another blunt weapons. with my +2 hammer and +1 mace, I gave to both of my fighters, and then I smashed those ozzes into the dirt. They still inflicted a lot of damage though, and poisoned me.

Yeah, I had trouble killing the two jellies too, and evenutally just ran for it. The jellies you get in dungeons don't seem to fire goo at you, but those two the wizard created did. I then forgot to go back and pick up the stuff that he "left behind". Well, it's not as if he could take it with him where he was going.
I didn't play at all last weekend because I had the in-laws around, and it seems as though I'll be making even slower progress than before, at least until the middle of June. Afterwards.....
Hmmm.... Spikey'll beat me to the ToB at this atrocious rate.

May I suggest the second level mage spell "Protection from Petrification" avaliable from Thalatyr in the High Hedge.

It's a doozy!

It also protects you for something like 8 hours, so you can wander around to your heart's content, and collect all of the really nice stuff. Not to mention the really nice exp for killing the basilisks!
