My main character really is an undead hunter now, having cleared the Bodhi's Lair and the entire Unseeing Eye quest single handidly. The Mace of Disruption really is just too good!

I'm getting another copy of Baldur's Gate 1 shipped to me. I will be playing soon hopefully.

I saved my old save game, so I'll probably start from there. In the city of Baldur's Gate. Although I kind of want to do the other areas again, they were fun. I'll finish this game. I may even start another game with the tutu mod.

I don't know about the winter wolves not being random. I got one of those dumb fights when travelling, and was gutted when I saw that it was only an ogrillion. He didn't last very long, but just when I went to leave the area and get back to my travels, a winter wolf ran round the corner. 500g for a random encounter!

500gp isn't that much though, is it. I'm never short of money in BGI, I finished it with 69000gp, after not finding anything new to buy. And I'm not sure oif they're random or not, but I've fought 20 odd Winter Wolves over the course of the game, one map with 6 or 7 on it.

Well I bagged 6 on my first visit to the hills SW of Nashkel, and 7 on the second (including one in that random encounter), but it did involve lots of running around and resting before they show up again.

That's 3 grand a trip, not a bad catch! Why still short of money? Surely with other stuff, you'd have enough for Shadow Armour, Full Plate, and possibly even a Robe of Archmagi and the Poison Dagger - all the really expensive items (unless you use Crossbows, which few do).

money can be short at the beginning of Baldur's Gate. But if you do everything, you will eventually have plenty.

Possibly, but I'm not that convinced. There are better arrows than bolts in the game, and better THACO and damage bonuses in longbows than the LCoS has. Also there's the cost. It's fast, but only as fast as a longbow, and with longbows and composite longbows giving major pluses to THACO and damage, as well as better arrows that enhance that effect, I think it's better than the fact you get a d10 rather than a d6 weapon.

ATM trying to decide whether ot not to bother with all the quests pre-Spellhold in BGII. I want Carsomyr, I want my stronghold (Ranger), and I want the Gauntlets of Ogre Power (for Chrom Fayer), so I guess I have to do those three, and I've done Trademeet, Planar Prison, Unseeing Eye and Thieves Guild already. Is there a point to doing the Keep? Flail of Ages would be nice, but can I be bothered with it? I suppose with Elven Court Bow, the nice stuff with the golems, etc, it would be, but I'm eager to get off to Spellhold and on with the game. However Carsomyr and Chrom Fayer will be needed later

I have finished the right hand side of the map up to Candlekeep, and have done the sirene area, and the Lighthouse below it now. I still can't find the cave that Safana was talking about, despite having Imoen scout the entire map using her shadow armour. I've gone back to Nashkel to rest/flog all of the useless stuff I get from dead bodies like rings and gems etc., and will probably give up on the cave now, and just go to the last free area before heading north to hunt bandits. Any hints as to what I should expect?
I fought about 40 hobgoblins of varying types in no time on the lighthouse map - they just kept coming back every time I went near the area I first encountered them. They're easy money and exp, but getting to be a bit of a pain in the bum now.
I hate the sirenes, as two times out of three I have had Minsc confused as well as beserk, and once he was too close to my party and so I had to have Jaheira run about the map so he wouldn't attack her, or any of the rest of them. I also had to reload once when I fireballed a huge gang of hobgoblins and caught my PC in the middle. I forgot I'd given her a sword instead of the usual bow. Still, making good progress, and enjoying the wand of fire.

I saw two carrion crawlers to the very top left, on the lower level of the coastline, but there was nothing on the higher level, and the coast didn't seem to go anywhere beyond them.

You ARE on the Lighthouse map, right?

You'll meet Sil, and two other Sirenes. She'll have a chat then all three will attack. Right behind her and her sisters is the cave.

Just make sure you have covered ALL of the coast.

I only saw one Sirene on my travels, but maybe I'll take a better look around on my way back from the map to the south of the Lighthouse. The idea is to have Imoen work out where these Sirenes are with her stealth skills, and then send in Minsc to beserk them all to kingdom come, although having Dynaheir fireball them to oblivion also appeals, but then it always does. All the party are level 5 now, except Jaheira, who is 5 druid and 4 fighter, although not far off.

Well at level 5 you should have no problems... but you REALLY don't want to miss this cave.

It could be full of smugglers' hooch! Although Skanky Burns will have emptied it if that were the case.

Jamski's right, you DO want to go to that cave. Go North from the lighthouse, keeping next to the shore. Go west as soon as you can, still keeping in contact with the shore. Then you'l find Sil, the Sirenes, and the cave.

Oh, and here's a hint, make sure you have a potion of absorbsion (they have 2 effects). Makes it a lot easier

I've got more potions than I know what to do with.
I'd be glad to actually use one in a worthwhile cause, rather than worrying whether or not to keep them for later in the game. Should I get Minsc to drink it?

Drink them like water or sell them. I always used to end these games with full wands, stacks of magic arrows and heaps of potions.

Use the stuff. There's plenty more.

Or sell it.

Don't save it for the rainy day that will never come.
