I've always preferred conducting diplomacy over chat, myself. I think it establishes a much more personal connection with your allies, and allows for much faster, real-time discussion of important subjects. In the PTWISDG, I did have a much better time communicating with Apolyton via chat than with just regular messages.

Vander - Togas' point needs to be confirmed with them. He is bang on about their not being a need to co-ordinate IW and writing. They should be going all out and starting CoL asap. If we need to chat with them to a) convince them of the wisdom of this and/or b) ensure them that we are not going to renege on our deal, we should get on the horn right away. Or - you need to be pretty definitive in a letter.

Maybe both. If you fire off a quick letter - and then we can plan a chat for early next week. Sound OK?

Actually - I think it would best to be honest about it. We were not sure how we were going to get along with them so, as a precautionary measure - we did not want to give them a firm idea of our whereabouts. That is the truth, and very understandable from their perspective as well. Now that we are all very friendly, we should just 'fess up and get on with life.

I agree. Admitting that we lied is the best way to gain their trust.

I offered to write a letter explaining the unfortunate need (in my opinion) for the lie and appologizing for it. You may feel free to send such a letter and sign it on my behalf. I will also be willing to chat with them if you feel that me doing a personal appology is necessary.

Just note fellow team members - I am not sorry that I lied to them, as I did it for good reasons. I am only sorry that it may hurt our relations with a group that appears to be friendly with us for now.

Just telling them where we really are should suffice. No admitting of a lie unless pressed, and even then say we were a bit mixed up - no need to go further than that. It's not likely to have made a blind bit of difference to them at this stage of the game, so unless they make something of it, let's not.

I wont be able to make but I know I dont have the CDG chat room directions and my guess is few others have it either.

You do not need to be registered at CDG to log- on (As far I as I know. I got on to their chat room fine). I'm assuming they want us to go to the IS- DG chat room. It is also a Java chat room, so be prepared. Again, the chat is at 4:30 EDT, so be there or be square!

EDIT: SORRY! Got the time wrong, it's 6:30, not 4:30!

Well, it's an hour and ten min away for me, and it's 2:20. I'm in the PST, and we have our lovely Daylight Savings time going right now. So I think that I'm at -7 GMT, so that makes the chat sometime around 9:30 for the UK...

The chat went well. Here's the main points of the chat:

-CDG wants Pottery this turn, if at all possible

- CDG wants a stronger alliance

- Not convinced that we are going to not attack them

- Do not want to have an early war; want to stay in republic (once recieved)


I'll get a copy of the chat up here pretty soon. Just as a side note, I lied through my teeth to these guys. They don't know about PAL or our plans agaisnt them or anything. I gave the impression that we wanted to ally up incase we encountered some other warmongering team. (Although, I did tell them that we are not totally dedicated to them just yet... ) So all in all, I think it went well.

I say give them pottery, as that is one thing we are trading with PAL, and therefore one thing we can beat them to trying to trade (even with our No Trade Clause). Besides, when we take their cities, those grainaries will be usefull.
