i tried using MPTournament.biq 3 times (once random, one land mass set to 40% and once 20%) ... each time it was is the usual range. i've attached an image of the random try.

anyway... in SP the 40% ocean doesn't seem to work... maybe it'd go in MP, i don't know

Ill play any size map its ok , I just like huge ones.

I think smaller maps are probably better for PBEM but I love massive ones for SP

well, i won't play huge

would you to agree on following:

- large map
- each player (currently it looks like only 3 of us) plays 2 separate civs
- rest of the players filled with AI
- everything else random

i thought there was 4 players?

and I'd prefer standard, just to make the game a bit faster paced.

2 civs is cool

the rest randomized

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

My recommendation is to not play anything larger than standard. I am in one large map game with 6 players - and it is not particularly interesting. 4 human and 4 ai's on standard would be OK.

Put an end to popups!

rommel's first post:
quote:
During the week I usually check for turns around 15:00GMT and 03:00GMT and am up until 6:00 or 8:00GMT

i interpreted this as playing 15:00 and 03:00 GMT, not between 15 and 03 GMT... or am i wrong? for our multiple turn sessions, we wanted times between approx. 20:00 and 23:00 GMT

smellymummy, no answer yet from the other two for quite a while...

a problem with having a standard map and everyone playing 2 civs: not enough space! with 4 human players we'd use up the 8 spots on standard. no more space for the extra AI.
or we could take a between value: somthing like 120x120

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

I guess I like standard size, because it will probably mean early warfare, and i like that. so i say standard sized map is the way to go.!

however, if you guys go for large, then that's okay too. whatever the majority decides

You are correct, sir. My only block of time during the week would be 3-7GMT, but I also have time for a turn before work at 15:00. I can play 20-23 on the weekends, although that doesn't line up with the schedules mentioned previously.

If these times work well with someone else, we can start another game...

Were these generated by the editor, or launched as part of SP games? There have been complaints posted over at CFC about the 40% feature producing too much land, but I didn't notice if they mentioned how they were generated. My guess is that this is a special file that isn't modifiable with the editor, so if it is launchd from the MP screen, the 40% will be used. I'll experiment with this a little later...

I don't really like the idea of playing 2 civs each. 4 human players + 4 AIs on standard size map would be the best option for me.

Put an end to popups!

so many different (and all nice) ideas!
but i agree with CM on the one main thing: the most important is to play!

currently, we've got 3 different paths:

a) fast game, my original idea, which eliitmees prefers
b) smellymummy's variant with 2 civs per player (details not yet clear)
c) a game in which rommel2d can also play... so a less fast (probably 1-2 rounds per day)

as i like to play several PBEM games, i wouldn't even mind playing three seperate games. would you people be up for that?

Ok, I've figured out that the 40% ocean feature only works when the "tournament" drop-down is selected in the Multiplayer launch screen. All other land/water ratio settings (both on the drop-down and in the .biq menu) are ignored with this setting.

On a related note, I believe you can only launch a PBEM game with a max of 8 tribes, so having 4 players w/2tribes each plus 4 additional AI tribes would not work, as that would make 12 tribes.

2 civs per player means:

the game will have 4 human players, for a total of 8 civs.

civ 1-2 is played by player 1. so player 1 finishes civ 1's turn, saves, exits. Then reloads the new save and plays the turn of civ 2. then the game is mailed to player 2.

player 2 then plays civ3 and civ 4.

and so on.

the fast one unfortunatly won't work with rommel because of his playing hours (3 AM- 5AM here ) ... i was hoping our first one would be the fast one... but anyway, i'll set up a game and start a new thread, then we can continue the discussion about another game (multiple civs, etc.) here... ok?

CM, shall we keep it like currently with you before me? ... that makes it easier and less of a mixup

so it'd be:

eliitmees --> crisiusmaximus --> sabrewolf --> smellymummy

answer soon if anyone's unhappy...

Suffering from ads?

Actually, I'm not that interested in playing with a multi-tribe setup- I was just being helpful while trying to figure out details on the MP launch screen and PBEM game mods.

Proposal A: I'm interested in finding out how the Tournament setting afftects PBEM games; 4 human tribes+ 4 AIs on a small pangea map using MPTournament.biq. This would not produce a crowded start since the 40% ocean will make for more land than a standard map at 70%. Seafaring tribes would be hurt by this somewhat, so I'd also suggest enabling y-wrap to give them more mobility.

Proposal B: Basically the same as the other game: 4 civs + 4 AIs on standard w/70% ocean- Continents or Pangea. I'd also suggest giving everyone a 'get out of the jungle free' card- a maximum of one restart for each player in case of a really poor position- but I suspect I'll be vetoed by smellymummy... ;-)

Either way, can we give the AI some teeth and put the game at emperor or diety? Also, no SGLs, regular production.
