Put an end to popups!

ok, i tested this out. there IS a chance of changing who plays first, who next, etc. i'll have to edit the MP9-WWII-Pacific Scenario.

so, please everyone state your preference of civ you want to play.

your choices are:
- china: immediate action, only land based fights. you're facing japan with lots of units and -especially on sid- lots of new units coming. resources will probably be needed for rushing and the other civs should help you with tech research.
- united states: basicly meaningless in the first turns. the only cities in the region are either small, or are pearl harbor . but if you don't get your forces over soon, china will be toast and so is the game. best is you get tons of bombers and marines and get those victory points on the islands.
- netherlands: no direct interference in the beginning. get your infantries on ships and send them to the mainland to defend china's last cities.
- commonwealth: a few cities near japanese, but most are in australia and have no immediate influence.

i guess china is the biggest challenge but probably the most fun and action. someone with enough time nad lots of guts should play them.
the primary commonwealth job should be to cut japan off from their rubber. no rubber means no more tanks and no more infantry. if you can get them out of south east asia, they'll lose rubber and 4 luxury sources!

so, what do you want? please name 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice. thanks

well, everyone of you has a different preference, so i'll take the last one (netherlands). wasn't my first choice, but otherwise we'll be discussing the rest of the coming week

so, players are (in order of playing):
sabrewolf --> the orange of netherlands
redboy --> the stars and stripes of united states
smellymummy --> the red star and hammer of china
chrisiusmaximus --> the "sun-never-sets" in the enormous empire of the commonwealth

some time this weekend, redboy will be getting the save and you'll all recieve a PM with the new thread.

Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

ok, here's my idea.

now playing 3 games, of which 2 are in the beginning phase with just 1 city and virtually nothing to do per turn, and the 3rd game one being a nice multi-city game, i was thinking of following:

EVERYONE starts with 4 settlers. you can chose if you pan out and found cities or if you want to imediately add the settlers to 1 or 2 cities.

i was also thinking of making the game neutral by making all civs trait-less (or all have all traits (to be discussed)) and giving everyone all base level techs.

if fact, imho, we could even start in the medieval ages.

my main aim is to skip the "boring" first turns and immediately get into the build phase.

what do you people think about it?

i think that for pbem, you have to be patient, and wait a few weeks (months?) for the games to get busy

conquest pbem sort of achieves what you want though.

have you played the mesopotamia one? you start with several settlers in that...

well, most conquest PBEM (ww2, ror, for, med, etc) have the problem, that you know exactly who has what units in the beginning.

and to be honest... i'm not too fond of victory point wins (nor do i really like wonder victories)

however, i havn't tried the mesopotamia one... that could be interesting. but are the starting locations more or less equal? i'll check it out.

but just in general: would you people be interested in something similar as my above proposal?

i checked out the mesopotamia scenario. it's definetly different than the epic game, and could be fun.
but:
- you start with only 2 settlers
- starting positions like greece and egypt really suck...
- tech tree doesn't even come close to the more interesting part

quote:

yeah... and if we just want to skip the first two months and directly enter the fun part?

so, would anyone of you be in such a game (details can be changed of course), or more likely not?

I didn't think Egypt was that bad if you consider the agricultural bonus for deserts.
