Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

quote:
You'd give a right arm and any other body part you can spare to have him now the way he's playing.

And Eddie would sacrifice his entire pack to get Jonno the way he is still playing – they are both futile wishes however.

We have young Harry Ellis at Tigers – one of the two England Academy scrummies – and we have to look to the future. Gregan would be great sure – but for a season? Two at the outside?

Of course the reason I justly labelled him a has been is because he is a former world cup winner rather than a current one.

quote:
Call it an investment to allow you to rest a couple of gallons on your lap that you couldn't hold in your hands standing up.

I like the way you think!

I wonder if you might find it amusing to hear that the new Tigers away shirt is somewhat All-Black in style (it has just the tri-colour club stripes vertically down the sleeves)?

quote:
Presumably they were trying to cash in on Russell's "Gladiator" thing.

Undoubtedly – though he is as famous here for verbally assaulting TV producers. I think the name of that feature possibly killed it’s box office – it’s a real mouthful.

quote:
I'm trying to find a version of the laws laid out in such a fashion to allow easy copy and paste.

I’m fairly happy to accept your research as it stands. If you can find them great – as I would like to see how ambiguous they are. I would certainly support them being re-written.

quote:
So his charges are on hold until it's determined whether the judiciary does have the right. The man is a serious worry.

My view on this is simple – inside the ground should still be taken as ‘onfield’. Remove this silly premise for getting away with thuggery entirely? It wasn’t Flavell was it? Flavell recently came third in the Planet rugby poll on the world’s dirtiest players behind Corne Krige and Jonno – proving that the readers of that site know nothing about rugby on the whole.

I still have a soft spot for old plank. He has impulse control issues but he is generally a nice enough lad behind that. The Waratahs renaissance for him stalled a bit though didn’t it?

quote:
What's this? Tigers' new back four? Recruiting from foreign shores again?

Apparently there is a Kiwi in the frame – but a back not a forward. The club is being as secretive as ever about signings.

Oh and the French clubs are not flavour of the month with us right now.

Still to cheer me up I have a friend who is a Saints fan and he is grievously upset that Krige is joining them.

quote:
I noticed that. Still, you've now got Picard at full back.

Andy Goode – the prodigal son – has been playing there. I suspect with Neil Baxter fit again and on the wing Geordan Murphy will reclaim it. Jaco VD Westhuyzen is off to Japan next month – but rumour has it is returning to us 12 months later. He had signed a three year deal and as a ‘devout christian’ intended to keep his word – so something muts have happended to let him renconcile not doing so.

Hmm I didn’t mention the score from last weekend did I?

Leicester Tigers 75 – Rotherham 13

That’s a record score for the top flight. I can also offer you some insight into Rotherham’s plight – whereas most top flight defences are very organised – theirs is not.

quote:
I have learnt it here, I didn't knew the Stade Toulousain was running after him.

Big strong lad – Welsh record try scorer – unique try celebration. But not a player I would want at Tigers.

quote:
I am sure the serie will become more and more interesting and I am waiting for Wesley Crucher's death and the Borgs with anticipation.

*SPOILER*

Wesley does not die. Think ‘ascends’.

The Borg are briefly seen is one of the season 2 Q episodes – but their proper introduction in the Best of Both Worlds (season 3-4 Bridging story) is probably the best piece of SF TV ever. Have you really never seen it? I bought the video in 1990 (when I was still young)!

Unfortunately, the Rugby Planet site, which used to have a relatively accessible version of the laws, seems to have dropped them. Unless they've put them somewhere else on the site.

I thought anywhere inside the fence was covered. He will be dealt with. It's just a matter of how and when.

A chap called Levi. Hails from, um, the North Auckland region, I think. Troy Flavell is psychotic. I'd rank him the ugliest in very recent times. That Bok lock - Bothe? - isn't far behind him. Still, we've come a long way from the days of the Richard Loes.

quote:

It hasn't been his fault they keep commiting suicide. His work in lineouts and around the ground has been top class. I always questioned his work rates, but not this season.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Lucky more than anything – I had five free minutes.

quote:
And J**** is a former captain of the third best rugby nation in the NH!

Strictly speaking that is not true – they never finished so low under his captaincy.

quote:
So how is it All Black? (Aside from its occupants promising much and delivering little)

Because the shirt is black – with club emblem and sponsors name – the only colour being two thin strips of the colours the eyeties nicked off of us running down the sleeves.

I’ll leave the Kiwi boys to rise to the other bit.

quote:
Unless they've put them somewhere else on the site.

The content was trimmed drastically with the last re-design. Money must be tight.

quote:
He will be dealt with. It's just a matter of how and when.

The NZ union has an appalling record for keeping a clean house with it’s players unfortunately. If this lad was English he would already know the date of his disciplinary hearing.

quote:
Troy Flavell is psychotic. I'd rank him the ugliest in very recent times.

He achieved a unique record after his appearance for the baa-baa’s recently – being cited and banned afterwards I believe. He made a truly lethal tackle it an effective exhibition game. Hard to argue with you. I also think most of the incumbent Bok front row could be accused of being close behind. But as a team the Tongans remain unmatched – they just don’t get the concept of the tackle I suspect?

quote:
I wonder if Corne has a clause in his contract requiring a certain number of bites and head butts per season?

He is in for a shock – the RFU is very strict on discipline, certainly stricter than he has been used to.

quote:
Dubya is a devout christian, too.

I found the details – it’s a two year deal he signed but he is exercising an opt out clause after one to return to us. No clash with his ideals there then. One does wonder why NEC don’t face facts – he no longer wants to go so why force him?

quote:
I ignored that. Dermott could score tries against them. A dog who overbalances every time he cocks his leg.

Not an Einstein then?

No one has done that to Rotherham before – they have had a lot of close games – and many games where they have scored freely. We simply ripped them apart – the bonus point coming in under 20 mins. One has to accept they knew they were relegated when they came to us – but then they have known that for months really!

Some English clubs seem in need of an easy scapegoat to explain their own failure. Of course, none of them remembers the money and salary war they started a few years ago. This is called a time bomb and it is now about to explode in their own face. I am convinced that a thorough study of the "side" contracts (rights about the image, commercials... and so on) would reveal the balance is actually rather fair.

Howard has made progress against Blair – but the party has not matched it against Labour.

Blair will win another term and be stabbed before the end of it – labour will then win one more election narrowly before the Tories get back in. And the cycle will continue – even to the extent that the Lib-Dems will declare they are ready to form a government before losing 30 seats instead.

I've coined a new verb - "to Tamerlin". It means to utter something completely nonsensical. You have just Tamerlined.

Iron? Plasticine, more like. He's a rather extreme example of the soft side of an OES. The only genuinely bad tempered ones are usually the result of in-breeding or severe mistreatment. Most are fairly benign in temperament, but they can be very protective of their family - children, in particular.

A few years ago, the salaries were so high in England that some of the best French players and many from many other parts of the world were flowing to England. The salary war was so deadly many of your clubs complained (read "whined") as they were coming close to bankruptcy.

About your initial salary cap, it was so high it meant nothing at all.

I shall not stoop so low.
I reserve the right, however, to do so at a convenient point in the future - after this years 3N perhaps - and point out the error in finbars Tamerlining ways.

'Unsteady Eddie' (you have to have seen the comedian to appreciate this) is spitting the dummy (yet) again over something pretty trivial.
This time it's the Pacific Islands 15, or rather the fact that those Islanders involved in this composite team will still be able to represent the nation of their choosing in the international arena - an aspect very much needed by Island rugby.
Stop dribbling Eddie. It's very little different from the Barb teams we send Northwards every once in a while.

I'd create another verb - "to ravagon" - but I couldn't use it in the same sentence as "to Tamerlin" because tautology is a crime against grammar.

Have a nice slice of humble pie left for when the youngsters turn over the Wallabies then?

quote:
Most are fairly benign in temperament, but they can be very protective of their family - children, in particular.

Yes this has been my experience with them – lovely amiable lumps but with a trigger that turns them into large formidable lumps. Dermot clearly read the job description and thought ‘not for me’?

quote:
Presumably he will jump before he's pushed?

Generally that is what happens – if he fails to win an absolute victory in any first round leadership vote in the party the pressure to walk becomes almost irresistible. This is how Thatcher was back stabbed – she won the first round but not with enough votes to make it a clean victory – and when those cracks had shown the wolves moved in – I loved it!

quote:
About your initial salary cap, it was so high it meant nothing at all.

1.8 Million I believe. I think we have you here Tamerlin – you are on the wrong track and gaining speed.

Ah I think we have it – you are recalling the Saint-Andre years at Glaws and thinking those boys (mainly second string France A players at best) were on mega-bucks? Not at that club Tamerlin – most of them can hardly count to five.

Nothing our clubs have done compare to French sides signing Stephen Jones for Ł150000 a year – or Tim Stimpson for the same ball park figure. English clubs cannot have even 15 players on that kind of money as it would break the salary cap. Remember these are salaries – not associated promotional income (this only really helps internationals normally – those players with high media profiles – although Finbar’s friend VD does very nicely).

quote:
I've just coined another new verb - "To finbar". It means to utter something utterly profound. Tamerlin has just finbared.

You very much have your Tamerlins and Finbars confused! He was barking so far up the wrong tree that the cat was long gone from the real one.

quote:

Nice spin What he actually complained about is that these Islanders will be able to pick which tri-nations side they 'feel like' belonging to in addition to being an Islander – not an Island nation of origin. For once I find myself in total agreement with him.

But then you know my position – if NZ can only remain competitive in world rugby by throwing it’s doors wide open to Tom, Dick and Harry then it doesn’t deserve a place on the world stage – call them the All Black Barbarians and drop all pretence of the NZ part once
and for all.

(particularly easy for me to say now the two Anglo-Boks are not England regulars)

You must be happy that the NZRFU has flannelled the IRB on this one again?

Aha but those same Islanders can pick which Nation they wish to play for right now - residency issues aside for a moment - that doesn't change here.
Putting together a combined class-outfit gives them a way to survive 'without' necessarily having to 'resort' to playing for another nation.
Eddie just seems peeved because of the ARB's position that Australian S12 teams can't field any Island players unless those players commit to the Wallaby National team (or is it the other way around?).
In any case, now some of those players have other options.

quote:

But then you know my position – if NZ can only remain competitive in world rugby by throwing it’s doors wide open to Tom, Dick and Harry then it doesn’t deserve a place on the world stage – call them the All Black Barbarians and drop all pretence of the NZ part once
and for all.

"Baa baa black sheep, have you " .. , oh sorry, got your point mixed up with something else.

(And yes the sheep 'slip' was intentional. )

I think we may have a different definition of the word 'competitive' here.
I could argue that we just happen to be open-minded whereas some of those from the NH have a rather higher-density of plumbic-related matter constituting their encephalic regions.

I have an odd sense of deja vu regarding this argument ...

Inability to compete with just your own resources makes you open minded? Thats the best line of argument ever used on this one!!!!!

Such altruistic behaviour on your part

Hurricanes 37 -d- Crusaders 20

When the Hurricanes are hot ...

Big upset as far as most are concerned. With a consolation try after the hooter, the scoreboard flattered the Crusaders. Umaga, getting back to fitness, had a blinder. The Crusaders' defence, as I've observed before, is nowhere near the wall it once was. The Hurricanes out-muscled, out-ran and out-thought their oppo. Being a Hurricanes supporter must be almost as frustrating as being a Waratahs supporter. The Crusaders had to win tonight to guarantee a home semi next week. Now, if the Chiefs can beat the Brumbies tomorrow, they can take second spot and the home semi next week. Methinks the Crusaders might be safe.

Now to go back and deal with some of the drivel posted above!

Presumably this match - or these matches - won't have any official status? They can't. I agree with Eddie too. The whole concept is a silly idea. There should be a combined team in the S12 and more Tests against the island nations. Except, of course, the Kiwis have already deemed them not worthy of a Test match.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Well I never thought to see an Everly brother song played for England – you never cease to surprise me Finbar.

That’s a nancy Wirral voice as it happens. And a good thing too given my voice is a typically butch East Midlands one.

Having said that what a strange choice to front an Aussie ad campaign – isn’t he still public enemy number one?

Cynically I would say have deemed them not WORTH playing rather than not worthy – the ABs are a money printing franchise these days like all the big sides.

The qualifier was too much huh?

Okay, vanilla “To be completely and totally right all the time” it is.

And what is with impuning Tamerlin’s manhood – and him agreeing?

For my part I am happy for you to join in the definitions Tamerlin – I’m unlikely to be upset by any of it. If I can cope with being called a nancy by association of my voice to the east midlands then I can handle anything.

While we're back in the 50s, here's a Platters' song for the England team. You only need to adjust the lyric to the plural: http://ntl.matrix.com.br/pfilho/htm...t_pretender.txt

I think it's more a comment on the few sportsmen who have had the transplant - Greg Matthews, Graham Gooch, and VD. They all appear.

Yep. That's more what I meant.

Well, no, if you pull out your Thesaurus - that I know you keep in your bottom drawer - you'll discover that's one of the antonyms of "to Tamerlin".

Now now, you cleared that up. The nancy isn't a local. So where's he from?

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

He is from the Wirral - so practically a scouser.

It explains a lot - trust me.

I'm also hoping Tamerlin gets the antonym reference - we are overdue a flood of smilies.

I'll be watching Chiefs v Brumbies a bit later. I'm not sure if it's live or not so I'll refrain from going to any rugby sites at this point.

If the Sharks beat the Stormers, wouldn't that knock the Chiefs off the 2nd place spot(assming they beat the Brumbies of course)?
