star of the game from this Calgarian's perspective? Curtis Joseph. no end of respect for that man and his effort tonight - a class player from an absolutely CLASS team
simply - Wow. |
From my home on the west edge of the city ( around 85th st.) the noise from the celebration was incredible. The city has gone insane with Flames fever. Even on non-game days there are cars with flags honking like crazy. A few days ago I saw a bicyclist on a major street-- who having to stop, dismounted and waved a flag for the entire time until the light changed and he went on again.
Little car flags have become a hot commodity. I believe they have been sold out her a number of times and the stores that get them, keep raising their prices but sell out anyway.
Joseph and Detroit--- lets just say that goaltending in no way lost the series for Detroit. If you give up 1 goal a game, you hope and even expect to win.
I have to give Calgary a lot of credit. Even though I am a fan and live in Calgary, I expected Detroit to dominate them such that the goaltending edge alone would be insufficient for Calgary to take the series. Although I saw that domination in parts of some games, Calgary actually competed very well as a team in most games. Last night, both scoring chances and shots were pretty even for instance.
I am now 0 for 2 in this rounds predictions-- The dart throwing monkeys are probably doing better

Heartfelt congratulations to Flame fans everywhere, and especially in Calgary and those relocated to Markham/Toronto.
Well deserved win.
Guynemer - condolences on the Ded Things.
Toronto will win tonight, but it really doesn't look like they can beat Philly in Philly...
Anyway, Sutter, Iginla, Gelinas, Kippy and all the lunchpail Flames deserve all the respect and recognition they can get, especially from the CBC who have been disgraceful, IMO.
Hopefully, for Calgary, SJ & Colorado get 2 more games, each with double OT, while the Flames can go to pilot-light...

so anyway, about all that's left to watch this game for would be an all out end game brawl for the way Roberts was manhandling that poor schmuck in the corner
