I favor tech level as a limit as well. Hmm.... me thinks tech level/2 might even be better.

Do I get Spaced tech level as well? Smiley, please inform me by PM about the number of spies I gained.

I have a presentation for Serbian Minister of Justice later today, so the earliest convenience to send my orders would be in 8 hours.

I thank you for the info Smiley, but I must repeat: Do I get Spaced tech level now, his money, his armies, his spies (if yes then how many?), etc before the start of my next turn?

The presentation was a great success. The Minister and the press were very pleased.

you get them in the foreign aid phase. That is after production (so you can't build nukes unless you research up to 11 yourself, for instance), but you can use his armies. You can't use his spies, but he can.

Good to hear about your presentation, what was it on?

1900 AD
Turn #8

Espionage
Both Gamecube and Vovan sent a spy at each other, and were both kept busy in a wild goose chase.
Vovan sent his additional spy and sabotaged Ljube's city and wonder building.
Ljube sent a spy of his own to sabotage Gamecube's city and wonder building.

World Trade

code:
------------------------------------- CUBIUM (15) --> SERBIA (8) 147 caravans +26460/+17640 SERBIA (8) --> CUBIUM (15) 160 caravans +19200/+28800 VOVAN (7) --> CUBIUM (15) 1 caravan +158/+158

Interestingly, the superpowers continued trading right up to Doomsday...

The Doomcubes of Doom
Fancying himself a Galactic Overlord, King Gameis invested vast sums into high tech weaponry. Although his Star Wars and Majestic 12 projects were sabotaged by Vovan, he did succeed in launching 40 SDI laser platforms, and prepped another 5 nukes. Rounding out his arsenal was another 2000 armies.

Spaced's last alliance
Fearing the worst, Spaced evacuated the cream of what was left of his country. Top scientists were sent to Ljube, as was his entire military, the treasury, and his top secret agent. Leaving their homeland on the Trans-Serbian Railway, they wondered when what little glory was left of the Spaced Dudes Republic would join the rest of the cratered landscape.

The Vovanian economic miracle
Plunging money into research, Vovan discovered Industrialization, Representative Government, and Mass Education. Then, he built the University of California and attracted researchers that taught him the secrets of everything from Nuclear Fission to Nuclear Fusion. Rounding out his orders, he further expanded Vovania with another three cities.

The Serbian military miracle
Still under the iron fist of Ljube, Serbian scientists nontheless made great advances, conducting research up through the Laser. While unable to build more cities or wonders, he did manage to build 24 nukes and one army.

And that's when things started to get interesting.

World War III
Gameis struck first. Without the fire of Jihad to fuel his troops' aggression, though, his massive army was only able to capture one province.
His nukes were more successful though, destroying 5 Vovanian cities.

Ljube struck next. Anticipating possible Cubish citybuilding, he carpetnuked the entire northwest. Gameis's space fleet was able to shoot down the missiles inbound to his territory. 2 just built Vovanian cities were destroyed in the process, and countless acres of virgin wilderness were also preemptively fried. A report from Ljube to the Serbian minister of defense noted them as collateral damage. A third targeted Vovanian city was spared as it had been just conquered by Gameis and was now under his shield.

More than two thirds of the world now laid in radioactive waste.

Yeah, trade is really overpowered, people's income is increasing exponentially. No more trade in the future though, as it pretty much goes without saying you can't trade when you're at war.

DarkCloud, your legacy still stands, though both wonders are quite useless these days...

Smiley,

I have some suggested changes to the game, but I need time to think them through. I am fairly certain that:

1. Number of caravans should be limited to tech/2 which limits the max trading to 1325.
2. Armies should cost at tech level, since they are effective at that, and investment of them at lower levels costs you something else anyway.
3. Trade income should be granted next turn, but costs this turn, representing the investment.
4. The attack formula is really broken. I would like to propose the simpler (attacker army count/ defender tech)-(defender army count/ attacker tech)=== positive then all territories bounding both empires of the defender are lost. I'm not sure how to handle the losses or the army units.
5. The acropolis should allow you to change govs without penalty, but only give you the tech of monarchy.
6. There need to be some handle on the nukes thing, else this turns into a complicated version of nuke war.

Lastly, please, I conceed, will someone please put me out of my pain this round?

All my stuff goes to LL again.

I should have more suggestions as we proceed.

Okay some more ideas concerning govs.

1. You can neither sneak attack or nuke from a republic. You can only declare war. You can retaliate from this form of gov when someone attacks you. If you are at war from more than 3 turns you automatically drop to a monarchy (without the 1 turn no rev penalty).
2. You cannot nuke from a monarchy. You can declare war or sneak attack. Again you can retaliate. If you are at war from more than three turns you drop down to despotism (without the 1 turn no rev penalty).
3. You can do anything from the despotism, however, I propose that tax revenues are halved from normal when your empire gets greater than (7?) cities.

If these are adopted, I see no reason why the acropolis would need to change since republic would be a peaceful means of victory.

Spies:

1. Not automatic, you need to build them. Cost is 10(or 5?)*tech level representing the production of two (or one?) cities.

Halve it when you get to tech level 10. To demonstrate how more advanced civs have a hard time maintaining order when they become more techonologically advanced.

And spies should have to be built as well

Got spare money?

to limits on nuking based on governments.
to more expensive nukes and more expensive armies
to more expensive technology
to limiting trade to tech level
to getting trade income later, as this takes away the incentive to trade, since building new cities would yield a better return. Trade has a built in "penalty" by making one's neighbor more powerful.

Suffering from ads?

Well, seriously, there are two ways for them to go (EDIT: Or should I say - for you to go ), I think - either race for the spaceship, or battle it out. Racing for the spaceship would be a surefire victory, and it seems it would be so for Gameis, simply because he has more money.

However, since LL knows that in a space-race Gameis would win, then he would dedicate all his resources to military production. But then, if Gameis knows LL will strike him hard, then he would have to divert resources from space race, and channel them to defence, or maybe even offence. You never know.

Though I agree, this will be over soon, and chances are neither ol' Spaced, nor me are going to be winner.

EDIT: Though, LL, if you think Gameis is the clear winner, and would be willing to... you know, give everything to me, then I wouldn't mind that.
