Yes, but Mirabeau was formerly a member of the Jacobin Club, along with most of the Gironde. Pretty much all of the revolutionaries were Jacobins until Robespierre started acting like a goofball, at which point the Girondists and Hebertists and Dantonists etc. split away from the Jacobins. Which, as far as I can tell, narrows down the suspects to you and me (since this scenario evidently takes place before Danton and Desmoulins broke ties with Robespierre, seeing as how Spiffor hadn't decapitated us yet), and I know that I'm not the mafia.

Edit: See for yourself. Mirabeau's one of the first highlighted names on the list of members.

OK, Mirabeau was the founder of the Jacobin club. But at the time Mirabeau was the most prominent revolutionary leader, the Jacobin club was a very moderate political wing. It had it's extremes, a group of ultra-left die-hard revolutionaries led by Robespierre, the thirty voices as Mirabeau used to call them, in all an insignificant group.

But Mirabeau himself supported constitutional monarchy and so did the majority of the early Jacobins. Following the death of Mirabeau in 1791 the Jacobin club changed completely when Robespierre took over. At that time another important club was formed, the Gironde.

Well, the Girondins adopted Mirabeau's ideas as their political programme. That's why I listed Mirabeau among them since I had to include all historical figures. Benjamin Franklin died in April 1790 so the story had to be timed then. And Jacobins in my story are later, 1792 Jacobins.

Not sure there is a GOOD way to play the game , except to try to keep a low profile... This is the furthest i have lasted in any mafia game and it mainly due to me being too busy to post often ...

The result of my investigation.
Everything I have seen points to a royalist. They are the only one's used to beating servants. Brutal floggings with a stick comes naturaly to them so Kalius it is.

Like Kass said, it's possible that I'm just being very clever. However, saying "the killer is either him or me" and counting on everybody piling on some other random schmuck (e.g., Kalius) is extremely gutsy, but not particularly clever.

Loin would have been much more suspicious as the Mafia if he had said "Well, Smiley is the mafia, but let's kill Kalius for the dramatic finish and to off the king." Since there's no margin of error for Smiley vs. loin then.

Anyway, glad it worked out this way. Dramatic finishes are much more fun, plus the pretender king gets killed just after he takes power from the Commitee. Ironic. And the French Revolution setting just demands a high body count.

Oh, and I agree, Kas. If loin is the Mafia, his "so stupid I'm smart" bluff has been truly brillant.
