People! Read the story! It's clearly a Jacobin! And who is the only Jacobin left now? Loinburger! The evil man must die before the whole of Paris is slaughtered.

Ljube is going to have a lot of 'splaining to do about that particular clue, unless he's going against his "no red herrings" pledge that he made earlier.
Edit: Nevermind, turns out that Smiley (aka Mirabeau) was originally a member of the Jacobin Club, so Ljube was being completely above-board with his nevertheless misleading clues. Well done. Unfortunately, Chauvin was not a member of the Jacobin Club, so looks like I voted for another innocent victim. Oh well, at least we'll know who the flogger is for next round (unless the three remaining votes all go to Smiley and we get lucky on the coin-flip).

Well, you know, I imagine that it's quite possible for a non-Jacobin to obtain the card and leave it behind as an outright false clue rather than a red herring.
I think part of the problem is that most of the people left are footnotes in history, so we don't know much about their oddities or giveaways. Sure, people know about Napoleon, Robespierre, or Jefferson, but Desmoulins or the Duke of Boudeaux? What would make them look guilty? Beats me. Even the Count of Artois would be a better person to guess on. Maybe there is another Jacobin left alive, that we've all just forgotten his alignment.
Edit: And loinburger seems to have edited in his latest discovery, so perhaps this was true.
My only guess is that the sadist is probably not Guilotin, unless it's an intentionally ironic casting- Guilotin wanted people to die clean, quick deaths.

I vote loinburger, because it seems that he wants to have me killed.
Ok, I admit it.
I carry around a military baton.
That way, if some smart-aleck revolutionary said something like "Hey, look. He's carrying a military baton!" and started laughing, and everybody else started laughing, I could just say, "That's right, it's a military baton. The military baton of justice." Then everybody would get real quiet and ashamed, because they had made fun of the military baton of justice, and I could probably hit them up for a free drink.

Chapter 11 - Counter-revolution at work
It was a busy morning that day in the National Assembly. After the demise of the Jacobins, their numbers shrunken to one or possibly none because Desmoulins seemed to have changed sides, many decisions had to be taken to undo the damage Jacobins have caused to the French society during the Reign of Terror. First, some sort of constitutional monarchy had to be re-established. King Louis XVIII appeared before the Assembly together with his cousin, young crown Prince, Charles Duc de Bordeaux.
“The death of two most prominent figures of the Terror, the bloodthirsty jackal Robespierre and the corrupt hyena Danton marks the end of lawlessness in France”, King Louis began his speech.
“The constitutional monarchy will bring stability back to France. Much needed stability and internal strength particularly in view of the recent news. My fellow countrymen, the United States of America have declared war on our nation because the Jacobin regime executed their elder Benjamin Franklin, one of the few true friends France has had.”
“We must act quickly to make right what Jacobins have done wrong”, former Prime Minister Necker suggested. “Let’s vote on two of my bills. The first would return the executive powers to our King Louis XVIII. These powers would be limited by French Constitution. My second bill is a proposal to abolish the Committee of Public Safety. This hated institution was a mere device in the hands of sadistic, murderous Jacobins which they had used to enforce their policies few of us agreed with.”
The Assembly voted in favour of both Necker’s bills.
Necker was very pleased.
"It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done.”
His powers restored, King Louis was eager to exercise them immediately.
“The government elected during the Jacobin period must not stand”, the King decided. “By the powers vested in me by almighty God and the Constitution of France, I’m relieving you, Honoré-Gabriel Riqueti, comte de Mirabeau of your duties as Prime Minister of France. You shall remain Minister of Defence and Commander of the French Army. I’m appointing our family’s true friend, dear Jacques Necker to the post of Prime Minister. Necker, I trust you unreservedly.”
“Thank you Your Majesty”, replied Necker and bowed before the king theatrically. “I shall not fail you.”
“I know you won’t.”
Then King Louis continued.
“Now the second order of business. During the Reign of Terror, shortly before her execution, French Queen was raped by a certain private in the French Armey who had been assigned to her as a bodyguard. This private deserves to hang, but since France is a constitutional monarchy, he will be guillotined today at noon. Bring him here!”
The soldiers brought Private Nicolas Chauvin before the King. He stood upright, defiant, full of hatred of the King and everything he represents.
“Don’t you know how to approach the King, you dog?” asked Necker and hit Chauvin hard behind his knees so he lost balance and fell down.
Everybody was laughing and shouting insults at Chauvin.
“Take him to the guillotine!” Duc de Bordeaux cried impatiently, which was perhaps understandable considering his youth.
Nicolas Chauvin was taken to Place de la Révolution, where guillotine stood ready for him. The mob was restless. They wanted to see his blood. Chauvin grasped the situation and dropped his spiteful stance.
“If you kill me now, you will never know whose name was on the Jacobin card found on the murder scene”, Chauvin clutched at straws.
“As if you would have told us the real name”, Duc de Bordeaux was distrustful. “For what we know, given your hatred towards anything even remotely associated with the monarchy, you would have told us the name on the card had been either mine or the King’s. As if anyone of us would have ever joined the Jacobin club.”
The crowed laughed. Then occasional shouts followed.
“Kill the rapist!”
“Off with his head!”
“Long live the King! Death to his enemies!”
Comte de Mirabeau was so irritated he could hold his thoughts no more.
“And the same mob was shouting death to the King a week ago. I hate the mob. It is so unreasonable.”
“That’s why it’s called the mob”, replied Guillotin.
But the reply didn’t seem to have satisfied Mirabeau. Ah well, probably he was also angry because he had lost the position of the Prime Minister of France for which he had fought his whole life.
“Chauvin, it’s time!” ordered the King and the sharp, precise and elegant, but deadly guillotine struck in a split second and Skanky Burns lost his head.
“This is what will happen to all enemies of the French King and France”, announced Duc de Bordeaux emphatically raising Chauvin’s head high and showing it to the crowd.
“God save us from the revenge of the monarchists”, Desmoulins thought, but he kept his thoughts for himself.
*******
“I want to know the state in which your investigation into these shameful killings is”, King Louis asked comte de Mirabeau.
“Well, following the death of General Napoléon Bonaparte, Danton authorised late private Chauvin to continue the investigation.”
“So basically, we are nowhere?”
“Not exactly nowhere, Sir. We have this Jacobin card found at the place of one of the murders. But the problem with the card is that the name is difficult to read.”
“OK. Since you are Commander of the French Army and we’re at war with four nations, I am placing Dr. Guillotin in charge of this investigation. Make sure he gets all the evidence gathered so far.”
“Yes, Your Majesty.”
*******
Later that evening Necker was celebrating his successes in a bar at Place de la Révolution. He kept paying drinks for everybody in the bar throughout the evening and around midnight he decided it was time to go home. On his way home, he passed a gypsy fair and being a superstitious man, he decided to give it a try. He entered one palm-reader’s tent. The old gypsy woman took his hand, looked closely into his palm and after a while told him to leave, that there was nothing she had been able to read from his palm and that she wouldn’t charge him. When he objected, she urged him to leave at once. She was so afraid as if the death himself came to pay her a surprise visit.
And the death truly came, for someone entered the tent and swinging a stick of some kind hit first Necker and then the gypsy woman knocking them both out.
The next morning two bodies were found in the tent. The old gypsy woman lying next to the zodiac and Rasputin, both half naked, gagged, arms and legs tied, flogged to death.
“This has got to stop”, cried comte de Mirabeau. “Guillotin, examine both bodies and give me a report later today.”
“I shall write an epitaph about Necker’s death. It shall bear the name All of his wealth wasn’t enough to save him”, Desmoulins concluded the sad gathering.
