Yeah, this is about what I was thinking. So my probability of losing $5000 while trying to win $1000 would be somewhere between 1/5 and 1/4. If I reduce the target win to $500 then the probability gets down near 1/10.

youre saying this stuff likes thats a good argument!!
Of course those are good odss you're risking 5000$ to win 500$!
You want a simple system that does the same thing :
-Play on every number on the roulette , Almost guaranteed win (but if you lose (ie get 0), youre in deepshit)

-PLay on almost everyhorse in a race, VERY GOOD ODDS (doh)

-PLay almost every number in the lottery, I heard that gives good chances of winning the jackpot (nevermind that it cost about as much as the jackpot to play...)

Your system , is just a more complicated example of thsoe above, and your odds are not any better than my first example.

This is something many begginging gambler's (or advanced ones for all i know) make a mistake.
They think a complicated system increases their chance.

the only way to make your chances of losing as small as you want to me is to increase the money you're risking compared to the money you're winning.
Of course you can get excellent odds risking 10 000$ for winning 1$ but the average pay off is still the same.
Meaning on average you lost as much money, since when you lose you lose more, even though that's not often.
I'll try give an example.

Ok suppose 1000 people come play Roulette with no system. So they just put all their 1000$ on red or black.
about 485 win 1000$
and 515 lose 1000 $ , on average (because of the green zeroes)
the casino made 30 K.
Now suppose 1000 people are "smart" and have a "system" with "very good odds" and stop when they win 100$ and play with smaller increment.
Its going to come out something like this.
880 people win 100$ (wow very good odds)
120 people lose 1000$ (wow lots of money lost)
Casino makes 32 K...
Those computations were approximate but very close.
Notice the Casino didnt care about your system, he stills wins as much, which should make you understand YOU lose as mcuh.

Very recently in Britain, at half time during the England - Austria match when the England team were winning 2-0, a guy put a huge bet on (£10,000 I think) that England would go on to win the match; Austria then equalised in the second half, and the guy lost it all. the odds were 100-1, so he'd have only won £100 if England had won the match; I remember the betting agency saying this guy had a history of making big bets with small returns, andd this was his first big loss... ouch.

I dont know about super system, but from the googled web site : http://www.super-system-doyle-bruns...rs_advice.shtml
some good advice with respect to this thread :
Remember that Nothing Beats a Game of Chance
You know the "systems" you've heard about, the ones that are supposed to be a sure-fire way to beat Roulette, or Craps, or the Lottery, or Keno? They may as well be written on toilet paper 'cause that's what they're good for. Nothing short of a rigged game is going to guarantee that you'll walk away a winner from the casino. And those fancy betting systems? Try them out on a "Free" game for a while and you'll see how far they get you. Fibonacci, Martingale, Grand Martingale, whatever. They all spell "lose faster" not "win more".

Expect To Lose
Casinos do not depend on luck to stay in business. On virtually every bet you make in whatever game you play, the house's win is designed right into the rules of the game. And that edge generally means they'll be the winner a lot more often than you will be. Players can find and play games where the house edge is 1.5% or less but you'll have to do your homework to find them. Sites like ours are a good place to start your education, but never forget that the casinos rule the roost and are in business to take your money.

Have Fun!
Unless you're a professional player with a proven track record, you're playing for the pleasure of it. For 98% of players casino gambling is recreation -- you're spending money to be entertained. If the fun stops, so should you.

I just checked though, the book itself is about poker, so that's a bit different since you're not playing the house...

Well, the strategies discussed there are less powerful against moderate-strong opponents, because likely they've read the book as well. Doesn't make them invalid, though.

Exactly, that was the point I made earlier - find the weakest table and relieve the players of their money.

KH, I highly recommend it. You can pick it up pretty cheap - maybe $25-30. Best poker-related investment I ever made.

I think I've worked out all the basics on my own, e.g. why to never play a weak ace at a large table etc.

It probably still has some tricks I haven't thought of though. I'm definitely considering it.

I bought a casino poker game. I played the first 5 games of the experiment. It is 38 numbers and the pay off for a number is 35 to 1.

Risk $5000
Target $1000
Bet $100

First game win - $1000
Second game win - 2000
Third game win - 1500
Fourth game win - 1200
Fifth game win - $3200

Of course I need to play more, but Wow!

some casinos only use 1 or 2 decks. very small one's off the strip. you can make money playing blackjack (just not a lot of it). But you have to follow the rules. They are mathematically proven to work.

I will also quit if I win three times out of that 100 bets.

Here's what I have for probabilities so far.

Probability of winning 1 out of 100 bets = 1/31^100 = 96.2%
Probability of winning 2 out of 100 bets = 1/31^100/2 = 80.6%
Probability of winning 3 out of 100 bets = 1/31^100/3 = 76.5%

What do you guys think?

on second thought. Go play roulette. Be sure to play at the Frontier though, and support my paycheck.
