They commented on Fox last night (when it looked like the exit polls were complete ****) that the numbers of voters in the panhandle/I59-corridor were dramatically higher compared to 2000 and that the percentage repubs was much higher than expected. That may have been because the repubs campaigned harder in Florida, but so too did the dems. I think that this Florida vote (especially in the panhandle where the polls close later) was a backlash against the media actions in 2000.

Tired of ads?

Chris Matthews said this morning that the Dems strategy may be wrong. He said that they now concede the South and the West (not the Left Coast) for starters, and compete in the North, Midwest and the Left Coast. This strategy has produced two consecutive electoral college defeats.

I never said that Kerry ran a good campaign, in fact I've been saying that it was pretty damn incompetent up till mid-September or so. I was simply stating the reasons for the dissonance between common wisdom of the pollsters and the results.

And which way do you predict it to go? A shift to the left or back to the right? Personally, I think if the dems are smart they'll forget about Hilary in 08 and look for a centrist who will have a chance to take a few southern states. It'll be too soon for Obama, otherwise I'd say he's a shoe-in for the nomination.

Interestingly, with 4% of the votes still left to be cast, Bush Jr. smashes the total vote record held by none other than the Reagan in 84. Gore did not have the plurality record, and neither did Kerry in this election, manage to match Reagan.

57 million for Bush Jr.
51 million for Gore
47 million for Clinton
44 million for Clinton
48 million for Bush Sr.
54 million for Reagan
43 million for Reagan

Actually, Hillary is more right-wing than Obama. Dunno if he'd have the experience though (he wouldn't even have a full Senate term), but he'd definitely be a candidate in 8 or 12 years. And I don't think he'd bail on his constituents. I'm hoping for Feingold, personally.

The DNC will be seriously be assaulted by the grass roots, though. McAuliffe will get the **** beaten out of him.

Everything pointed to a Kerry victory, in theory. Incumbent rule, voter turnout, etc. etc. It all turned out to be wrong.

Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

Well, even given the increase in population, Clinton never managed to gain more votes than Nixon's previous record in 72, let alone Ronald Reagan.

Another interesting thing to note, is that Democrats have not held this record since LBJ in 64. None of the Democrat wins represented highwater marks of the popular vote.

So what is this myth that higher turnout benefits Democrats?

Let's hope he says something to his followers that brings them back to reality.

Suffering from ads?

They thought that a higher turnout by young voters and minorities would give the Democratics the lead that they needed. Also many say Republicans already have a high turn out, and the Democratics got a lot of new voters to register.
